One of the reasons that our numbers were down at Gosford today was that there were many of our Lady Golfers supporting Wyong Golf Club Open Day which directs all the profits from the day to Breast Cancer Research which is one of our favourite charities to support.
My playing partners at Wyong today were Shirley Daly, Lola Martin & Deanna Bailey. We had a good day once we defrosted after the first two holes when it became a beautiful sunny day. Our team missed out on a ball on a countback, but we had a good fun day. My highlight being a par on the hardest hole. Gosford players that I saw supporting today were Shirley Daly, Ros Singleton, Margaret Davidson, Doris Morris, Wendy Stapleton, Fay Bailey, Lesley Gregory, Norma Cubis, Lyn Cruickshanks, Julie Hazzard, Helen Broadbent and June Bowen. Because the day was broken into two shotgun starts & people were scattered it was difficult to identify all our members. There were 80 starters from many clubs around the coast and the Sydney area in the morning 7.00 am hit off and I am not sure how many attended the afternoon.
Wyong Club are rejuvenating the ladies locker room with some new amenities with lavender being the primary colour. I was impressed with the look of the lockers.

F-Troop Monday 3rd May 2010

We had 12 hard working F-Troopers on duty today and we managed to get through our projects
set down for today.
I saw Duncan Dyer, Geoff Bridge, Martin Gallagher, Noel Fenning, Peter Martin, Warren Gray, Bruce White, Doug Incoll, Arthur Verlander, Georgina Lamb & Anne Burgess working hard out on the course.
Duncan, Martin, Geoff & Noel were dispatched to tree removal duties on the 17th.
Warren, Bruce, Doug & Peter were on sandbagging duty where they bagged 80 bags of loamy sand from the garden on the 1st tee & transported them to the bunker on the 15th where they have been placed as part of a water control project to stop water washing out the sand in the bunker. Eventually when this garden is draining properly via the grass garden that is going to be planted above the bunker then the sandbags will no longer be required. Meanwhile the sandbags have been deemed an integral part of the course so there will be no free drop if you are unlucky enough to find yourself there.
Georgina & I cleaned up around the wedding garden, 1st tee and front entrance to the tees.
After morning tea Martin, Peter, Geoff & I planted out the grove of olive trees on the 15th and a bay tree on the 13th.
Anne Burgess spent her morning at "Camellia Way" and was horrified to find that vandals had struck once again. This time plants including bougainvilleas, a camellia and a the "moonlight" grevillea had been uprooted and thrown away to die. This type of vandalism is so disappointing as it is senseless & disrespectful to Anne Burgess and the ladies who have donated these plants. Anne spends a lot of her private time looking after these gardens which have just began to show great promise. Shame on the person or persons who did this deed. We did manage to find the "moonlight" grevillea & Anne has replanted it - but it may be too late to save it.
Another shameful event last week was the removal of the toilet cistern from the Men's toilet on the 14th. One can only ask "Why" would anyone want to do that? I guess the reason is "because they can". Mindless creatures!
I noticed this week that all of our orchids have produced flower spikes so we can look forward to seeing some more beautiful orchids this year that I hope all the "mindless" people allow us to enjoy.
As an exercise this week I have made up a summary of the number of F-Troopers that we have working on the course throughout the week and have come up with 23 regular workers and 6 or so casual workers who come when they can. A big thank you to all our members who are very much appreciated.
YES! WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE!

Golf - Sunday 2nd May 2010

We had a wonderful day for golf today - blue sky and sunshine with the course & greens showing great promise after their recent maintenance programme.
Our golf partners today were Wally & Rhonda Robertson and we had a great day full of highlights - not the least of which was Peter not managing to get his drive onto one fairway until the 18th where he placed his drive in the long grass at the dip & yet still managed to get in excess of 40 points with the help of his friends ( 25 points at the halfway).
The Event of the day was a Texas Individual Stableford which was introduced to the club by Dick & Joyce Bosley and proved to be a very popular choice with our golfers. The rules are that each player is to place a drive, choose the best drive, from that point everybody plays their own ball as a stableford event - 3 scores to count in a team event only.
We had 100 starters with 7 visitors from Kempsey, Teven, Tuggerah Lakes and Everglades.
We had some crazy scores with some individual scores coming in at 50 points due to the advantage of using the best drive. There was no handicapping today so it was essentially a fun day.
RESULTS:
TEAM RESULTS:
WINNERS: Frank Smith, Kurt Burrell, Chris Hatfield & Craig Ward - 152 points
RUNNERS UP: Dick Bosley, Joyce Bosley, Wally Johnston & Robyn Johnston - 146 points on a countback

NEAREST THE PINS:
MEN'S 12TH: Mark Stimpson
LADIES 8TH: Helen Potter
BALLS WENT TO: 141 points neat
NO HANDICAPPING TODAY.
HIGHLIGHTS OF THE DAY as reported to me: Rhonda Robertson had a great drive on the 12th; Wally Robertson had a great 5 iron to the 4th. & fabulous drives on the 2nd and the 13th; Peter Martin had 25 points on the front 9 not using any of his drives; Spencer Walklate put his shot into the garbage tin at the 17th which fortunately was not one of the required drives; Ray Stapleton did not get any kisses today for any birdies or good shots; Irene Hyland from Everglades had 50 points; Annie Brink had 50 points; Anne Stimpson had 49 points including two 5 pointers; Steven Cross objected to the ladies executive choice of Annette's drive on the 2nd until he scored a birdie - when all was forgiven; my highlight was scoring a birdie off of Rhonda's great drive on the 12th.
WINNER OF THE DRAW FOR HARVEY WORLD TRAVEL VOUCHER:
As most Members have been aware there has been a competition running for some weeks a the Club for the purchasers of Bistro Meals. Harvey World Travel have donated a $1,500 voucher which was drawn tonight after presentation.
THE LUCKY WINNER WAS: Warren Gray who was present at the club at the time of the draw.
CONGRATULATIONS TO WARREN & MARY WHO ARE STRONG SUPPORTERS OF THE CLUB.
