F-Troop - Monday 26th January 2026 - Australia Day

 

We had a very productive day even though it was a Public Holiday. 

We had 7 volunteers and we achieved some good work.

On hand we had Sam Knox, Kevin O’Brien, Peter Martin, Laurelle Freeman, Caroline Buttsworth, Lyn Bates and Jan Martin. 

Projects worked on today were dumping of rubbish from the Ute from last week; picking up the garden bins from the practice nets and taking that rubbish to the dump; trimming back of agave plants that were over growing the path in the practice nets garden; trimming of the camellias bushes at the practice nets garden; raking paths and removing rubbish from the practice nets garden; weeding and trimming plants at the Practice Nets Garden; weeding of the garden at the chipping green garden; weeding and trimming of gardens at the 13th tee; watering and tidy up of gardens at the 3 rd and 5th gardens. 

The Agave plants were advertised for free pick up on Facebook and we hope that we can re-home them without cost of removal from the club. 

The course was busy with competition and social players today so we worked well out of their way.

Being a Public Holiday we had no fresh sandwiches for morning tea but survived with a supply of ANZAC biscuits which was appropriate for Australia Day.

The Late Sue Scobie

 It is with great sadness that I tell you of the passing of Sue Scobie yesterday, 19th January 2026 after a huge health battle. Our deepest sympathy to Michael and family over their loss of a lovely lady and much loved and respected Golf Member. 

Rest in Peace Sue.

The funeral notice will be in this Saturdays SMH. 

F-Troop - Monday 19th January 2026

 Heavy rainfall yesterday and continuing showers and rain today prevented us from taking heavy machinery or carts out on the course today.

There were branches down around the course that came down in yesterday’s deluge.

We had 5 volunteers this morning and we did what ever we could in the conditions.

On hand we had Sam Knox, Duncan Dyer, Kevin O’Brien, Ray Cheal and Jan Martin,

The boys were allowed to take the Ute out on the course to pickup fallen branches which they did until the heavy rain set in.

I busied myself in the front of clubhouse gardens weeding in between showers.

No photos today as it was a bit glum in the wet weather and morning tea did not happen.

Laurelle Freeman showed us who was the hardest worker today - vision after crawling under bushes

We only had light showers until about 10.30 so we were able to carry on regardless with our projects.

Projects worked on today was removal of large branch from the 10th fairway; loose timber and rubbish pick up around the course; Firewood preparation; emptying garden bins from behind the practice nets; weeding of gardens at the 2nd tee, 13th tee and around the practice nets gardens and practice putting green; laying pavers at the ladies 2nd tee garden and hedge maintenance. 

We managed to have time to enjoy our morning tea of fresh sandwiches before the rain set in.

Men’s Pennants Results - Sunday 11th January 2026

 

A Grade Pennant Side - Paul Davies, Zane Medlin, Jack Tabone, Greg Brien, Dean Stevens, Jai Dee Bradley - 1sr Round vs Kooindah.

On Sunday Gosford played the first Pennant Match for 2026 at Toukley against a strong Kooindah team.

We had several players that were new to matchplay and they will improve with experience.

We also had 3 Juniors in A Grade who all played exceptionally well.

Just chilling out after a hard mornings work.

We had 15 volunteers for F-Troop today. With a nice fall of rain last night we did not have to worry about watering the gardens.

On hand we had Sam Knox, Trevor Harrison, Duncan Dyer, Kevin O’Brien, John Hincksman, Rob Benson, David Medcalf, Frank Potter, John Hollebon, Don Nicholls, Peter Martin, Bev Way, Lyn Bates, Laurelle Freeman, Jan Martin and Steve Turner ( who came in to repair the leaking toilet at the 14th Bush Toilets.)

Projects worked on today were Loose Timber and Rubbish pick up around the course; firewood preparation; hedge maintenance; garden maintenance at the 2nd, 3rd, 5th, 13th, 18th, and practice net garden; removal of overgrown agave plants at the practice net garden; trimming grasses in front of the ladies 3rd tee; mowing, blowing and raking garden areas and greens; tidy up at the back of the clubhouse; filling in potholes and damage to the fairways; tidy up of weeds at the putting green and chipping garden area; preparation for installation of a security camera at the wood yard, repair of leaking toilet at the 14th bush toilets.

We enjoyed our morning tea of fresh sandwiches after a hard mornings work.

 The Golf Event of the day was a Medley Single Stableford.

We had 63 starters with 8 visitors from Future Golf, Everglades, Wyong and the SGA.

Our playing partners today were Terry and Sandra Coyle. Our best highlight was a birdie on the 11th by Sandra. The course was surprisingly dry after last nights storm. We felt the heat out on the course today however by late afternoon we were hit with a storm which brought the field in with lightning and thunder.

Hopefully we have had enough rain to saturate the course and build up water supply in our dams.
