We would like to update you on what is happening now the course is closed.
On the positive side, the greens are going to love this. No foot traffic trampling the grass, no balls creating pitch marks. The green staff will be cutting the greens once or twice a week to 5 mm from this
coming Friday and let it have a rest. The 5
th and 17
th green as well as the nursery green will be over sown. They will still get a regular drink. All the holes have been filled in, so now the corellas have no holes to chew on, and they may forget how to do it by the time we return.
The fairways and tees are going to be maintained and again no divots so they can recuperate like the greens. The rough will also receive a regular haircut. Dave our superintendent will be on holiday leave but has agreed to keep an eye on proceedings.
The groundsmen, Darren and Peter, are on a month leave at this stage; Craig has also taken a well-deserved break. Matty will keep the machinery running and Shaun and Jaidyn will be doing the bulk of the work.
The Board of Directors would like to thank all staff for their understanding in this difficult time. We only lose the ability to play golf, while they in many cases have lost their job. It has not been easy on any of them from the bar staff to the pro-shop and the greens, but rest assured that we will endeavour to look after them as best as possible.
Yes, there are a lot of negatives, but let's concentrate on the positives. One, you will get to know your family better. Two, most of us are fit and healthy and will get through this. Three, we only miss out on a few rounds of golf and there are much worse things in life. There is even a good chance we end up with a better golf course.
We will keep updating you on anything that is happening at GGC and the world of Golf.
Try to keep in touch with you golfing mates, give each other a ring and most of all, stay safe.
