We had a mixed bag of fruit today weather wise. We started the day with blue sky and sunshine with 31 degrees threatening at about 11.30 am. by the time we reached the 6ht fairway the dark clouds were rolling in. By the time we had putted out and reached the 7th tee we were hit with strong winds and heavy rain accompanied by thunder. It was so noisy we could not hear any siren warning and had to ring the Pro Shop to find out if the siren had been sounded. Having high tailed into the clubhouse we waited just long enough to have a coffee break and went back out when the rain had ceased. Having made it back out to the 7th fairway we just managed to reach the green when more lightning and thunder threatened so once again we scuttled back to the clubhouse. Large branches had come down in the wind and there was loose timber everywhere. At this point a lot of the golfers gave up having got thoroughly wet. Nigel Asken had got a Hole In One at the 12th so we all wanted to finish the competition to ensure his qualification. The radar was looking promising so those of us brave enough to continue on went back to our places and continued our game and the weather was pleasant for the rest of the match. Amazingly enough there were some great scores out there today so obviously the elements do not worry some people.
My playing partners today were Kevin O'Brien, Col Kelly and Alice Diamond. They were great company and we did have some highlights some of which were Kevin's birdie at the 18th and the 5th hole where we all scored 3/3. The boys beat us for the Keno Ticket however Alice and I won a ball each which made our day.
The Golf Event of the day was a Mixed 2 Ball Team + Single Stableford + NSW Mixed 4BBB Qualifying.
We had 86 starters with 12 visitors from Ashlay, Coffs Harbour, Cumberland, Everglades, Highlands, Mangrove Mountain, Orchid Hills, Richmond, Riverside Oaks, Trundle and Wyong.
