Thankfully we had some sunshine to work in today after a terrible day on Saturday that bought inches of rain and very high winds.

The winds on Saturday night brought down a lot of branches - large and small all over the course and the leaning pine that has been threatening the Wedding Garden for some years finally came down right across the wedding garden.  Amazingly very little damage was done to the garden and we had the wedding garden back in business in half a day.  We have a garden wedding this Friday so the pressure was on!

We had ten volunteers today.  Most of our original projects for the day were put on hold while we gave priority to the fallen tree and branches. We had Trevor Harrison, Duncan Dyer, Don Nicholls, Martin Gallagher, Garry Trigg, Geoff Bridge, Rob Benson, Warren Gray, Anne Burgess and Jan Martin .

Trevor & Don took care of a repair of one of the cart shed doors, prepared one of the water tanks for removal to the cart shed area and then helped out at the wedding garden.

Rob & Warren were on pick up duty out on the course where there were a lot of branches down - some so large that they needed to be chain sawed to a movable size.

Duncan, Martin, Geoff, Garry, Anne & I went straight to the wedding garden with all our intended projects put on hold.  The pine tree was huge and it took until morning tea time to remove all of the small branches - leaving the main trunk of the tree which was a big challenge.  The Greens Staff came to the rescue with the Bobcat which was a huge labour saver and the tree trunk was removed before lunch.  We managed to get it all back into order including replacing plants that had to be removed in order to get the tree stump out.
To look at the garden now it would be hard to tell that there was ever a tree there.  It was a good team effort!

Geoff lost count after 8 trailer loads had gone to the dump.  It was very hard work and there was a lot of timber in it - none of which is good burning fuel unfortunately so we will not be able to make good use of it.

The tree stump project is nearing completion and Martin also supervised some of that today. You will all notice the difference now with no ugly stumps for your golf ball to curl up to. The course is visually much better.

It was very hot today and morning tea of iced buns was welcome after a hard morning's work. Thanks Chef John!

The course was very busy today with a Vets Competition  so having an "off the course" project probably worked out okay.

YES! WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE!
