We had a great day for golf today and being Easter Sunday (when it is traditionally raining) it was a real bonus to have blue sky and sunshine.
Our playing partners were Bert & Annie Brink and we had a great day battling the boys for the keno ticket. The girls started off well but by the half way mark it was all square. Then the girls surged ahead to lead by one at the 15th hole when the boys came good with a birdie from Bert at the 16th and a win at the 17th & all us girls could manage at the 18th was a square. We did have some good highlights with our team only being one point off the pace & me winning the Women's Singles Event.
We did have an "incident" at the 14th when a group of our players witnessed some young men at the edge of the creek near the bunkers. Rosalie Dyer hit her drive off the 14th (with great intuition) straight in their direction at the creek, which flushed out these uninvited young men into the open where they rushed onto the green and stole the flag. Before anyone could stop them, the young men made their escape in canoes to the other side of the creek. I understand that several of our members attempted to retrieve the flag using reasonable verbal persuasion which was unsurprisingly ignored by the thieves. This is just an example of typical vandalism that the club has to incorporate into it's overheads.
The Event of the day was a Singles for Men and Ladies Plus Medley Team Event.
We had 110 starters with 10 visitors from Antill Park, Avondale, Oatlands, Tuggerah Lakes & Wyong.
