Gosford Golf Club Open Amateur Report - Sunday 5th October 2008

Under leaden skies and a damp track Gosford Golf Club hosted its annual Open Amateur Tournament and Orange Bowl Teams Event for 2008 on Sunday 5th October 2008.
Two Gosford Pennant players in Steve Geary and Dan Snelson finished with even par 71 to go into a 4 hole playoff. After 4 holes of playoff Steve Geary finished the victor to claim the Open Amateur from his brother-in-law Dan.
The teams Event, known as the Orange Bowl, was won by 4 Gosford Members in Dan and Mark Snelson, Steve Geary and the son of Gosford's Professional Mark Churcher, Zac aged 15.
Winner of the Seniors Scratch Event was Noel Wood from the Picton Golf Club while Barry Bray from the Liverpool Golf Club was the winner of the Seniors Nett Event.
While the field was not a big one by any means it is hoped that golfers from around the central Coast will start to support this event in the future so that it can restore itself to the glamour event it was several years ago when big fields were the order of the day.
Gosford Captain, Mark Stimpson, thanked those that did play on the day and hoped that they would be back next year.
