Golf - Thursday 17th December 2009
It was a sizzling hot day today which kept our numbers down in the summer heat. The temperature reached high 30's which is a test for any golfer.
I did not play today opting to gather some sandstone rocks for the new garden on the 5th. By 10 oclock it proved to be too hot for manual work so all plans were put on hold until a cooler day.
The Event of the day was a Single Stableford - Over the Field and we had 17 starters including visitors from Everglades.

Golf - Tuesday 15th December 2009

We had a great day for golf with the bit of cloud cover keeping the temperature down. The course was in good condition after some showers yesterday. A bit more rain to green up and soften the fairways would be good and the greens are in great condition.
My playing partners were Iris Talbot and Pam Bourne & we enjoyed the day which did not show in the scores unfortunately. Thank heavens there is always next week to come back to.
The Event of the day was a Ladies Single Par - Over the field Summer competition and we had 46 starters which is not too bad being so close to Christmas.
RESULTS: OVER THE FIELD:
WINNER: Marianne Lanham - Plus 6
RUNNER UP: Rosie Judd - Plus 4
3RD: Rhonda Robertson - Plus 2
4TH: Doreen Vines - Plus 1
5TH: Christine Dekker - Square on a countback

As we do not have an official presentation for the Summer competitions I did not stay on for the duration. There was one HIGHLIGHT OF THE DAY that I missed and fortunately it was captured by Mary Beard on her mobile phone camera.
Lesley Gregory arrived in the clubhouse after finishing golf and deposited her purse and etc on the chair - not realising that she was still carrying her sand bucket - which up ended all over the chair. Mary was very quick with her camera on her mobile phone to capture this moment.
Thanks for the pics Mary!

F- Troop - Monday 14th December 2009
We had 10 F-Troopers on hand this morning - those that I saw were Martin Gallagher, Duncan Dyer, Spencer Walklate, Geoff Bridge, Warren Gray, Des Wilson, Peter Martin, Mark Stimpson and Yvonne Wilson.
A lot of work was achieved and the light drizzle of rain was more pleasant to work in than a blistering hot day.
The Troopers worked hard all morning with Warren taking on the rough cutting duties. There were some old dead trees removed, trimmed some crepe myrtles and lilly pillys, paths raked at the 5th and the 7th and general rubbish picked up. The garden at the front steps was cleaned up, raking around the front entrance and the path to the pro shop cleaned.
Martin & Mark did a tree/course inspection to identify probem trees and areas that F-Troop want to work in next year.
Yvonne tidied up the garden near the front steps and later Yvonne & Des transferred some plants into the new garden at the 6th to complete that garden.
I was kept busy with a delivery of 2 tonn of Nepean River pebbles (compliments of Col and Kay Adams) which had to be spread on the new garden at the Ladies 3rd tee. These pebbles will help to keep down the weed growth so that this garden will have low maintenance in the future.
Then a couple more of the "Electric pink Cordylines" were planted on the new garden at the 6th to complete that garden. This will be another low maintenance garden in the future.
A visit to the wedding garden area to refresh the birdbath, a quick garden tidy & water the elkhorns in preparation for more hot weather.
At F-Troop morning tea we were offered some baby muffins from our chef John to accompany our traditional 'morning tea' in the Spike Bar. Very nice! Thanks John!
A REMINDER TO ALL F-TROOPERS who are available - This coming Saturday - Golf for the men to be followed at 5.00pm by a BBQ for the Men and Ladies to celebrate our years work.
YES! WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE!

Golf - Sunday 13th December 2009 Mixed Foursomes Championships
Today was the replay of the Mixed Foursomes Championships previously abandoned due to bad weather - this time held over 18 holes instead of the original 27 holes.
We had lovely sunny weather which was accompanied by a strong breeze at times which kept the temperature to reasonable out on the course.
Our Playing Partners today were Bob Knox & Doon Jansen and Peter & Margaret Davidson . we had a lovely day out on the village green - pity about the golf on some of the holes. We were pleased that we brought Peter & Margaret in to 3rd position in the Div 1 18 hole nett competition as they did have a couple of exceptional holes worthy of recognition and played well overall.

NO HANDICAPPING TODAY
HIGHLIGHTS OF THE DAY as reported to me: Margaret & Peter Davidson - a nice birdie at the 12th; Bob Knox and Doon Jansen had 2 pars in a row on the 8th and the 9th; Jan & Peter Martin had 4/2 on the 12th after Peter put Jan in the left hand bunker and told her to putt the ball out - Jan followed instructions and gave an almighty swing of the putter which shot the ball across the sand at full speed, hit the sharp side of the bunker, jumped the edge and rolled beautifully onto the green - it should be noted that Peter missed his putt leaving it to Jan to finally putt in for a 4 on the hole (thanks Pete!), another highlight was a par on the 14th after Peter put his drive on the green ( Yes! Jan missed her putt); Vicki Morris chipped in for a birdie on the 8th; Anne and Mark Stimpson parred the 8th, 12th and 14th; Keith and Susan Bourne played 18 holes with the Club Captain and were not at any stage disqualified ; Glennis English had a great drive on the 17th- her playing partner Trevor Andrews put her in the trees so Glennis put him in the bunkers (sounds fair to me); Rob and Robin Brann had a birdie on the 8th; Michael and Pauline Norman had a birdie on the 1th; Leonie Casey put her drive on the 3rd 110 metres from the hole (WOW!); Mary Bromwich lost her sand wedge and sent Warren in search of it - only to find it still in her bag; Robin & Doug Incoll had a birdie on the 16th; Steve Craven and Georgina Lamb had a birdie on the 2nd; Graeme Wright had an airswing (not even close) for his chip shot to the 4th, much to his partner's amusement -( Lyn Douglas could hardly contain herself); Duncan Brown sank some magnificent putts; Tania Burt put Spencer Walklate in the water on the 17th which Spencer extracted with great expertise (although just a little messy with mud and water); Arthur Haviland and Helen Stuart both had gobbler chips into the hole - Arthur at the 15th and Helen at the 6th.
It should be noted that DUNCAN BROWN has featured in most of the BIG events held at the club during this year and had played exceptionally well overall. Great year Duncan! CONGRATULATIONS!
