Golf - Tuesday 5th February 2013 - Ladies Opening Day

Opening Day for the Ladies was a great success.  We had a 7.30am shotgun start and enjoyed beautiful weather.  The course was in good condition considering all the recent rainfall.

My playing partners were Kath Payn and Rosalie Dyer and we had a lovely day with our highlight being no wipes for the day and winning a ball.

NO HANDICAPPING TODAY.

HIGHLIGHTS OF THE DAY as reported to me:  We had a shotgun start so it was too difficult to get around everyone to gather highlights while everyone was enjoying a lovely light lunch and catching up after the summer break so I have no highlights to report other than Lynn Puiatti's first drive of the day at the 14th starting hole was a beautiful shot just short of the hole and won nearest the pin.

F-Troop - Monday 4th February 2013

At last we had a fine and sunny day to get some of our projects under way.

We had eleven volunteers today which was good and we got two of our big projects started with the help of Duncan Dyer, Martin Gallagher, Geoff Bridge, Peter Martin, Trevor Harrison, Garry Trigg, Rob Benson, Warren Gray,  Di Beechey, Anne Burgess and Jan Martin.

Duncan Dyer, Geoff Bridge and Martin Gallagher worked with the stump removalist working their way around the fairways removing the tree stumps which was the first of the big projects.

Warren Gray & Rob Benson took care of rubbish pick up and Rob also trimmed the hedge on the 2nd tee.

Peter Martin, Garry Trigg and Trevor Harrison, Di Beechey & Anne Burgess worked with me on the 6th native garden where we trimmed shrubs, removed old shrubs that were due for replacement, put down a layer of carpet for weed control & re-mulched some of the gardens.  Geoff Bridge assisted with his chain saw to remove some of the larger shrubs. This was the second of the big projects.

The agapanthus at the 2nd garden were trimmed which makes that the last agapantha garden to be done.
Mary Bromwich & Warren Gray did a great job of trimming the agapanthus on the 17th garden through the week - a mammoth job.  Thanks Mary & Warren!

Morning tea of mini muffins was welcomed as we had all worked hard all morning and well deserved the break.  Thanks Chef John!

The two projects will be ongoing to next week weather permitting.

YES! WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE!

Golf - Sunday 3rd February 2013

If you are interested in hiring the Mustangs for your
special occasion then Richard Casey is your man
Richard is a Member of Gosford Golf Club
and Richard & Leonie are both Members of F-Troop

The Club sponsored the Bridal Expo today which was a big success with many participants promoting their wares and many future bridal parties checking out the venue and stalls.  Hopefully it will mean more business for our clubhouse in the future. The clubhouse was full to the rafters which was good to see.

Thankfully the showers were only light today and it was business as usual at Gosford Golf Course.

The fairways and greens (very slow) were good, the rough was a little long and wet in places but overall we would never know that the course has had something between 8 and 10 inches of rain in the last week which is a vast improvement from previous years when Gosford was known as a bad wet weather course. Apart from the bunkers that were rain affected and in some cases still holding a lot of water - carts were allowed and we had few excuses for a bad score with the majority of complaints being the slow greens where we could not make our self hit the ball hard enough to reach the hole so three putting was our major hazard.

The Golf Event of the day was a Single Stableford for Men and Ladies + Medley Team Stableford
 1 X 2 X 3.

We had 85 starters with 6 visitors from Lithgow & West Wyalong.

Golf - Saturday 2nd February 2013

The weather has been unkind the last few days bringing down another deluge overnight and continuing into the morning. We have had plenty enough rain now and need some sunshine.  The course is draining out very quickly so we do not have any problems getting on but this mornings rain did put off a lot of our players and we just had enough starters to have a competition.

The Golf Event of the day was a Men's Single Stableford and due to wet weather and reduced field there was no handicapping..

We had 23 starters..

RESULTS:

MEN'S SINGLES RESULTS:

WINNER: Nathan Allen - 35 points on a countback

RUNNER UP:  David Grant - 35 points

3RD:  Mike Garner - 34 points

NO HANDICAPPING TODAY.
