The girls were very impressed

Well, it is "not happy Jan" for the start of our golf week away.  Our first two days scheduled to be spent at Wollongong Golf Course were nipped in the bud.  When we arrived at Wollongong in full sunshine we discovered that the course was closed for play with no promise of it being opened by tomorrow.  The wet weather  had taken it's toll here.

Our second option was to go to "Gibraltar"Golf Resort at Bowral where we knew the course was open.
We booked in for two days & opted to have nine holes this afternoon.  It was pouring with rain by the time we had travelled from Wollongong and had lunch.  Then it fined up with some nice sunshine so we decided to brave the very wet course to try to get in our nine holes.  All was well until we got to the 6th hole when the heavens opened up and drenched us.    Watch this space for an update on our efforts tomorrow.

At Gosford all was well.  The Golf Event of the day was a 2 Ball Team + Single Stableford Mixed Men & Ladies.

We had 88 starters with 8 visitors from Everglades, Linwood, Mangrove Mountain, RAE, Terrigal & Toukley.

Presentation Night - Saturday 11th February 2012

We had another highly successful Annual Presentation Night held in the Sunset Room tonight.

Members and Guests enjoyed a very entertaining evening highlighted by our popular Patron Les Arndell amusing us with his early memories of Gosford Golf Club and this year's speaker Cricket Legend Alan Davidson who kept us enthralled with his tales from his many years of representative cricket.

It was hard to tell that the Gosford area had been hit with a deluge from a huge thunderstorm in late afternoon. By 7.00pm the course was awash with beautiful sunshine and was looking magnificent.

Director of Golf Scott Cubis did a wonderful job as Master of Ceremonies and the Presentation ran smoothly. President Ron Puiatti welcomed all the Members and Guests.

Golf - Tuesday 7th February 2012

Today was the Ladies Opening Day of Golf for 2012 and thankfully the rain stayed at bay and allowed us to complete our first competition day without any problems.  The course was still wet in places and the rough was very rough & hard to get out of. Moral of the story - "stay on the fairway"  A lot of the bunkers were still full of water and out of play.

My playing partners were Lorraine Bignall & Yvonne Wilson & we were good players out of luck.  We did have some very good highlights along the way.

The Golf Event of the day was a Ladies 3BBB vs Par.

We had 79 starters including Leola Mollica from Windsor (sister of our new member Debbie Fleeton)

RESULTS:

3BBB VS PAR:

WINNERS:  Maggie Minjoy, Lyn Bates & Rodie Judd - Plus 10

RUNNERS UP:  Di Thomlinson, Anne Burke & Sue Scobie - Plus 8 on a countback

3RD:  Helen Stuart, Felicity Mead & Rosemary Cohen - Plus 8

BALLS WENT TO:  Plus 5 on a countback

BALL COMPETITION:

Leonie Casey, Glennis English, Lynn Puiatti - Plus 7 on a countback
Carol Farrell, Judy Ruitenberg, Doon Jansen
Lorraine Linnert, Anne Baker, Helen Potter - Plus 6 on a countback
Lesley Gregory, Sue Hutton, Julie Hazzard - Plus 6
Rae Brown, Georgina Lamb, Pauline Norman - Plus 6
Kay Frewin Robyn Johnston - Plus 5

NO HANDICAPPING TODAY.

HIGHLIGHTS OF THE DAY as reported to me: Our new member Debbie Fleeton saved her team on the second hole & also got over the dam at the 3rd; Leola Mollica (Windsor) parred the 13th; Kath Payn had a gobbler at the 17th for a par; Rosalie Dyer had 3 pars; Chris Cayley played consistently; Dorris Morris scored on all of the par 3's for her team; Debbie Grinham, Faye Levenspiel & Michelle McGrath all parred the 10th; Anne Forrester had a plus on the 6th; Glennis English putted well; Yvonne Wilson was the major "square" scorer for her team; Lorraine Bignall parred the 1st and the 8th; Leonie Casey nearly had a hole in one at the 8th; Christine Drakeford nearly had a hole in one on the 8th; Lynn Puiatti hit her second shot at the 5th over the bunker & into the hole; Rosie Judd, Maggie Minjoy & Lyn Bates all played steady golf; the two girl team of Kay Frewin & Robyn Johnston scored plus 5; Di Beechey birdied 11th and parred the 18th; Berry Hanley scored well for her team; Rosemary Cohen had a gobbler at the 9th; Helen Stuart chipped well; Judy Ruitenberg, Carol Farrell and Doon Jansen played well for their plus 7; my highlight was scoring 4 plus at the 9th with a gobbler chip into the hole.
