We had a sumpteous lunch served to us by the club kitchen & we also had a personal Christmas Cake on the table for each of us made by Carmen Fitzgerald.
We were entertained by Lynda Hartley who sang a couple of songs and she had us enthralled with her beautiful voice.
Rosemary Cohen kept us very amused with one of her famous jokes.
The finale for the day was a "Michael Jackson" skit by Lyn Douglas, Debbie Grinham & Robyn Krahe that had us rolling in the aisles.
It was a good day and CONGRATULATIONS must go to all of the Committee Members and the Social Committee for such a great effort this year.

F-Troop - Monday 6th December 2010

We had a good day at F-troop this morning even though we were down on numbers with 12 volunteers we did manage to get a lot of work done.

We had Duncan Dyer, Geoff Bridge, Peter Murphy, Des Wilson, Warren Gray, Peter Martin, Fred Middleton, Bruce White, Di Beechey, Jan Walker & Rosalie Dyer.

Warren was on roughcutting duty for the morning.

Duncan, Geoff, Des & Fred were the "tree gang" working their way through the fairways removing low hanging branches.

Bruce White & Peter Murphy were one team for the removal of branches and rubbish off the course using the F-Troop Ute.

Peter Martin was on pick up duty with the car & trailer & worked on his own due to our depleted numbers today. Peter alone collected four trailer loads of rubbish during the morning.

Di Beechey started early cleaning up the BBQ area & the carpark nearby.

Jan Walker did some cleanup work at the front of the clubhouse.

Rosalie Dyer worked on the gardens & grounds at the 1st tee.

My mission today was to clean up at the 3rd & 5th tees & then helped Peter with the clean up of the cart path at the back of the 2nd green. I was amazed that we collected two trailer loads of rubbish just from the edge of the path. The path is two feet wider than it appeared to be yesterday just by clearing off all the rubbish that had settled on the path over the years.

We still have got more work to do in that area before we can green tick it.

Morning tea was very welcome as the morning had got quite hot & we needed refreshments.

Chef John did not disappoint with some lovely slices of iced cakes to accompany our tea & coffee. Thanks John!

The course was busy with social players today but we still managed to cover a wide area of maintenance.
At 6.00pm tonight we decided to do a test run using the poison wands to kill off some of the rogue grasses that are invading our fairways. We want to systematically work through each of the fairways with the assistance of Member volunteers & are trying to work out the best way of doing it. We had three volunteers for today - Mark Stimpson, Peter Martin & myself & we managed to rope in two other Members Col Matterson & Alan Graham who were innocently at the club at the time & their help was appreciated. We will see how effective our efforts have been over the next week & then will plan for further treatments. Any Members who can volunteer some time late in the afternoon to treat the fairways in the next few weeks please contact Mark Stimpson or myself. Your help would be appreciated.
My thanks to Anne Stimpson for her contribution of the "grasses" photos.

YES! WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE!

Golf - Sunday 5th December 2010 - Annual Mixed Gala Day

Once again we have been very fortunate to escape any rainfall during our special Annual Mixed Gala Day which had a 12.30 pm Shotgun start. The course was in remarkably good condition after all the recent rainfall and there were only small pockets of casual water on the fairways to interfere with any golf shots. The greens in particular are in the best condition and everyone that has been playing at Gosford recently will know just how good they are.
Our playing partners today were Lorraine Bignall & Craig Ward and they were great company with both Lorraine & Craig playing very steadily overall & they carried me for most of the day.
The Event of the Day was a Team Stableford 1 x 2 x 3 + Singles.

The Olive Grove got some TLC this morning to encourage the growth of the trees which have shown signs of thriving on the 15th fairway. Some of the trees have fruited and have they have nice new foliage shoots. Today they were weeded, fertilized, trimmed and re-staked which should give them a good start for the summer months ahead.
