The Halloween Moon was a good indicator for a Halloween Party held at Ross and Christine Drakeford's and served also as a reunion of the NZ golf tour group of Feb/March 2009. The house decorations were "Halloween" scaryand the food delectibly delicious. Nobody challenged the neighbourhood for "Trick or Treats" in case someone recognised us in our "good look" outfits. Ross and Christine were great hosts and a good night was had by all.

Golf - Wednesday 28th October 2009
While the boys were golfing today, the girls had a day out in Sydney to see "Wicked" the musical at the Capitol Theatre. We arrived in time for morning coffee closely followed by a long lunch at the "Chat Thai" Restaurant which was across the street from the Theatre. (This restaurant was recommended by a group of our girls who had been to see "Wicked" last month.) The recommendation was justified and we had a lovely lunch and a couple of bottles of wine to prepare us for the show. We arrived at the theatre for the 1 oclock matinee. Choc Top icecreams were on order at intermission when we picked up some special "wicked" wine glasses as momentos of the show. We really enjoyed the show, the costumes and staging were excellent and the show very entertaining.
Meanwhile, on the golf course the Event of the day was a Men's Single Stableford + 2 Ball Team.
The boys came in with some top scores so the course must be playing well with not too much interference from the recent rain.
We had 205 starters with 4 visitors from Everglades, Howlong, Morisset & Toukley.

Golf - Tuesday 27th October 2009
We were so lucky with our golf day today - the weather held out with just the lightest of showers which did not interfere with our golf game and the course was in remarkably good condition (with the exception of the bunkers) after the huge downfall of rain in the last two days. The scores were high with some great individual efforts which unfortunately did not count today as it was a team stable ford two scores to count with an 8 o'clock shotgun start which was designed to bring us all in to the clubhouse in good time for lunch and the Annual General Meeting of the Ladies Committe at 1.30 pm.
The Event of the day was a team stableford with two scores to count and we had 59 starters (15 teams).
My team today was Mary Beard, Rita Gilmour and Di Beechey and we had a fabulous day with Mary & Rita throwing in some great 3 and 4 pointers at appropriate times and Di contributing with 2 and 3 pointers to the extent that they were not interested in my 2 pointers. We had lots of highlights and came in with a good enough score to win a ball.
The golf was followed by a lunch break while the cards were being compiled followed by the Presentation and the Ladies Annual General meeting which was held in the Sunset Room. All incoming positions were filled without any challenges or need for voting. The results of the incoming committee were:
PRESIDENT: Christine Drakeford
VICE PRESIDENT: Dawn Tromp
CAPTAIN: Annette Dunk
SECRETARY: Ronda Jordon
TREASURER: Jan Fitzgerald
HANDICAPPER: Maggie Minjoy
ASSISTANT HANDICAPPER & GENERAL COMMITTEE: Di Beechey
GENERAL COMMITTEE: Wendy Stapleton
GENERAL COMMITTEE: Kay Adams
GENERAL COMMITTEE: Mary Beard
VETS CO-ORDINATOR: Chris Dekker
Congratulations to our members who were willing to take up positions on the committee this coming year.
Your work is invaluable to the club.
A big thank you to all the outgoing members of committee for all their hard work this past year - Rosemary Cohen - Outgoing President; Bev Adams - Outgoing Secretary; Lorraine Linnert - Outgoing Vice President; Di Thomlinson - Outgoing Captain; Marianne Lanham - Outgoing general committee.
GOLF RESULTS - TEAM STABLEFORD: 2 scores to count
WINNERS: Di Thomlinson, Lorraine Linnert, Debbie Grinham and Sheena Asken - 92 points
RUNNER UP: Allison Guthrie, Susan Bourne, Julie Hazzard and Pam Witt - 89 points
BALL COMPETITION:
Lynn Puiatti, Judy Verlander, Norma Cubis and Lyn Cruickshanks - 89 points
Robyn Johnston, Fay Bailey, Doon Jansen and Barbara Stratford - 88 points
Rita Gilmour, Di Beechey, Jan Martin and Mary Beard - 87 points
Marianne Lanham, Lesley Gregory, Sue Hutton & Dawn Tromp - 87 points

Golf - Sunday 25th October 2009
This was to be the MIXED FOURSOMES CHAMPIONSHIPS to be played over 27 holes.
For once, the rain forecast was right - heavy rain falls and just to make sure we got the message - some thunder and lightning to ensure our mass exit from the course.
Our playing group today was Peter & Margaret Davidson and Garry and Doreen Trigg. We made it through the first nine with no major dramas - playing okay all around and enjoying the day. We continued on the second nine with just the lightest of sprinkling rain which was not too bad. By the 13th hole the sky was closing in and the thunder and lightning made its presence felt. A decision was made to call all players in for safety sake and by the time we had trudged back to the clubhouse we were all very wet.
The rain continued to fall very heavily and the Greens Committee made a decision to abandon play - the match is to be rescheduled to another day. I will publish this date as soon as it is available to me.
SCOREBOARD FOR THE MEN'S CHAMPIONSHIPS 2009. I have been told that the Scoreboard will not be available for publishing until next Saturday (after presentation). I will publish it as soon as it is made available to me. Presentation is to be held at 5.30 pm next Saturday 31st October 2009.

During the week F-TROOP have been rescuing the new trees recently planted at the 2nd fairway. The trees have been suffering from poor soil and the recent wet weather had washed the top soil away from them exposing some of the roots. We were fortunate enough to get a donation of a trailer full of top soil from Geoff Bridge on Monday and Peter Martin has put in some good hours on Tuesday, Thursday and Friday replacing the soil, enriched with compost and fertilizer, replanting the trees and watering them in with seasol. A mammoth task but it will rejuvenate the trees which have also been suffering from some rabbit damage.
Thanks Geoff & Peter for your efforts.
Some more good news is the succulent garden at the 3rd Ladies tee is recovering from the recent attack from cockatoos and the damaged plants are reshooting. The cockatoos have not returned so hopefully they did not enjoy their first meal and will not return. That garden was topped up with some more donated begonias and some additional donated succulents today which should have the garden looking colourful for the Christmas period when we will be having a lot of visitors.
The fertilizers and compost for these gardens were financed from our F-Troop "Timber sale" fund - thanks to Martin Gallagher for his efforts in selling off so many bags of firewood this year which has raised in excess of $700 which is going towards F-Troop garden projects. Both of the above projects have been completed at zero cost to the club which is a great achievement.
