Thursday 22nd January 2009

It was planting of the Blue Ice Conifers Day today as I did not want to leave the trees in pots during hot weather while I will be away. Martin Gallagher agreed to help me plant out and water in the trees. The timing was perfect after this big rain storm we had last night. I believe we received something like two inches of rain which was wonderful for the fairways and not to mention the topping up of the dams. Another couple of repeats of that storm would be appropriate followed by some nice slow drizzle - perfect!
The camphor Laurel tree that was crowding the trees along the dam has been removed & the rest of this garden area has our priority.
The purchase of these trees was made possible by the generous donation received from Nigel & Sheena Asken who have donated towards our garden projects. Another tree purchased was the "Little Gem" Magnolia Tree that has been placed near the front entry to the 1st and 10th tees. Thank you Sheena & Nigel. I hope you enjoy watching these trees grow to maturity for everyone to enjoy. The rest of this garden area is ear marked for refreshment - this work will be carried out as soon as our work program and finances will allow. Watch this space for reports of new work.
Other donations that I know of this week have been for the purchase of Chinese Box plants for the 6th tee area. Generous donations have been received from Bert Brink, Renee Dekker & Clyde Cruickshanks for this purpose & our sincere thanks go to them.
We plan on having a F-Troop notice board placed somewhere at the front area of the club on which we will place a selection list of all the plants that are required to complete our garden projects. Anyone wishing to donate towards our projects can select which of the plants/shrubs/trees they would like to give support to. We will also be placing F-Troop news there to keep everyone up to date with our projects.
