Golf - Tuesday 8th January 2013

We had a forecast of 43 degrees for today which was enough to put anyone off playing golf, including this little black duck.  As I am writing this (about 2.30 pm) the temperature is still sitting at 40 degrees.

We did however have 10 very desperate women golfers who were determined to brave it out.

F-Troop - Monday 7th January 2013

We are leading up to some very hot weather this week so the watering of the course and gardens was full on today in an attempt to survive the heat.

We had eleven troopers on hand today which was very helpful and we got as much work done as possible working well even after the morning tea break.

We had Martin Gallagher, Duncan Dyer, Geoff Bridge, Trevor Harrison, Garry Trigg, Peter Martin, Richard Casey, Sam Knox, Di Beechey, Anne Burgess and Jan Martin.

The Tree Gang of Duncan Dyer, Geoff Bridge, Martin Gallagher and Garry Trigg worked on cutting up and removing the fallen tree at the 18th tee and  undercutting the fairway trees - now working on the 16th.  After morning tea they also assisted with the pick up of the weeds at the 10th dam. Martin Gallagher also kicked in with some watering of the grasses on the 15th and all of our newly planted trees.

Trevor Harrison & Richard Casey did a great job of rebuilding the bridge between the 2nd and 3rd fairways and then assisted with rubbish pick up after that.

Nigel Asken did a fantastic job working on his own clearing out the nuisance grass weeds at the edge of the 10th dam.  A mammoth effort by Nigel.

Sam Knox worked on clearing up the last of the timber donated by Peter Davidson.

Peter Martin co-ordinated all the workers, did rubbish pick up around the course, set up the watering systems around the course as we needed them and repaired some plumbing work at the pro shop.

Di Beechey and Anne Burgess concentrated on watering as many gardens as possible around the course and that was a mighty effort on their part as dragging the hoses around in the heat requires a lot of effort.  Di also put in place her newest innovative garden at the 3rd fairway.  Di has since added more plants which will give some much needed "personality" to that part of the course.  Anne tidied up around the bush toilet area including hosing out the toilets as well as doing all the watering of the other gardens around the course.

I worked with Peter on rubbish pick up as well as setting up watering systems at the 13th, 6th, 16th & the 2nd tee gardens as well as doing rake up and cleaning up where necessary.

We all deserved our morning tea of muffins which we enjoyed.  Thanks Chef John!

Members please note that the newest grasses planted at the 15th fairway are protected by ropes for a reason and there is a drop zone available should you be unfortunate enough to have your ball land in that area.  Please do not pull your golf trolleys through this area which is clearly marked and will remain protected until such time as the grasses reach maturity.

YES! WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE!
