The Event of the day was a 2 Ball Irish Multiplier and we had 25 starters. A lot of our lady golfers gave their support to Wyong today to help them celebrate their 75th Anniversary which was a very successful day ( see separate posting report below). This of course contributed to the small field at home.

Gosford Golfers at Wyong 75th Anniversary celebrations - Thursday 22nd October 2009

What a top day of golf it was today at Wyong to celebrate the Ladies 75th Anniversary.

The Event of the day was a 1/2/3 Stableford Team Event and there were two shotgun starts to accommodate all the players that wanted to participate.

My team today was Shirley Daly (Gosford) and we played with Lola and Joan (Wyong). We played in the early morning 7.00 am shotgun start and we ha d a lovely day with our Wyong girls. The course was in great condition (both the greens and the fairways) and this encouraged some excellant scores for the day - the winning team having 94 points. We had some great highlights during the day with one of the best being Shirley winning the nearest the pin prize. We were lucky with the weather as it stayed nice and cool with some cloud cover in the morning which was pleasant for golf.

There were a lot of Gosford players participating in the day - some of whom arrived at lunch time to play in the afternoon shotgun start. The Wyong Ladies were wonderful hosts, supplying us with a nice BBQ lunch, tea and coffee and some of the 75th celebration cake. The club was formed in the 1930's and the Ladies were accepted as full member in 1996. There were some good nostalgic photos & notes on display. In 1960 it cost 6 shillings to have a game of golf. How things have changed!!!

Congratulations to all the Wyong Lady Golfers on their 75th Anniversay celebration and (as usual) the day was well organised and a great day was enjoyed by all that participated.

We had 170 starters with six visitors.

Golf - Tuesday 20th October 2009

We had a magic day for golf today - blue sky and sunshine with just a little breeze.

The Event of the day was the GOSFORD BOWL AND BRONZE SALVER 2009 + LONG MARKERS DAY sponsored by COL AND KAY ADAMS.

In conjunction there was also a playoff for the Medal of Medals - the qualifying players being the winners of the monthly medals throughout the year.

We had 90 starters with visitors from Mona Vale, Wyong, Terrigal, Tuggerah Lakes, Toronto, Charlestown, Magenta and Everglades.

My playing partners today were Annette Dunk and Jan Fitzgerald and it was nice to bring home the nett winner. We had a good day with some highlights, the best being Annette's birdie on the 12th.

HIGHLIGHTS OF THE DAY as reported to me: Barbara Stratford had a gobbler on the 8th and a birdie on the 2nd; Margaret Davidson played the 5th hole well; Marianne Lanham and Beulah Cant played together and both came in with 73 nett; Judy Verlander had 40 strokes on the front nine and chipped in for a birdie on the 9th; Yvonne Wilson had a gobbler birdie on the 8th and scored three other 4 pointers at the 13th, 15th and the 1st; Bev Walker hit a shot out of the bunker into the hole at the 18th; Annette Dunk had a birdie on the 12th and parred the 10th and the 11th; Judy Verlander had a birdie on the 7th; my highlight was a gobbler on the 18th.

Other highlights today seen around the course today: Anne Burgess and Judy Hughes (our F-Troopers) working on their Bouganvillea and Camelia gardens at the back of the 10th green (Anne was delighted that there is now a hose fitting to water her plants so she no longer has to carry water in buckets); Peter Martin renewed the soil, fertilized, replanted and watered the Tibouchina trees on the 2nd fairway; Mick Wilson, Steven Laing, Jim Forrester and Mark Stimpson spent some time with the disabled junior golfers this afternoon; Des Wilson was inspecting the site for a new seat at the 8th tee. You may have noticed that the Chinese Elm tree at the 6th tee has been trimmed by F-Troop. Future planning is to move the seat from it's current site to underneath the Chinese Elm with a garden edging and some woodchip fill to tidy up the area. It is wonderful to see our members volunteering their time for the betterment of the club and grounds. This work is done in the background of our normal day of golf and is largly unnoticed by the majority, but it is very much appreciated by all.

F-Troop Monday 19th October 2009

It was action stations for the Troopers again today with an endless list of work to be done around the course.

We had eleven hard workers that I saw today including Garry Trigg, Noel Fenning, Geoff Bridge, Des Wilson, Spencer Walklate, Peter Martin, Arthur Verlander, George Foster Yvonne Wilson and Di Beechey. It was nice to have Martin Gallagher visit us at morning tea time. Martin is recovering from recent surgery and hopes to be back on deck in the near future. Our morning tea this morning was compliments of Bartos Pies - thanks to our sponsor, Jason. Today we enjoyed a choice of pies, sausage rolls, donuts and custard slices that do not come in small slices. This is a bonus of being an F-Trooper.

I was a late arrival today and the troops were busy clearing the gutters and fenceline along our side entrance when I arrived. There was a lot of privit hedge and nuisance weeds to be removed and truck loads of leaves and sticks. It looked much neater and nicer to look at after the work was done.

We did not get any timber pick up done as we did not have our ute & timber collector Warren Gray on duty today.

Arthur Verlander & Garry Trigg did some tree trimming of the Chinese Elm at the 6th, Geoff Bridge and Peter Martin inspected the tibouchinas & crepe myrtles at the 2nd and gave them a good water. Des & Yvonne Wilson fertilized, watered and weeded all the Magnolia trees, Di Beechey weeded & cleaned up around the BBQ garden, garden at the 2nd green and the garden at the 12th green. I spent my day fussing over the roses and weeding the putting green hedge, watering the elkhorns at the wedding garden & cleaning the birdbath.

Geoff Bridge has kindly donated a trailer load of topsoil so that we can refresh the soil around the tibouchinas, crepe myrtles and Golden Penda on the second fairway. Currently the topsoil has been washing off & the tree roots are getting exposed so some intensive TLC is required for this area. Thanks Geoff!

Another job added today to the list is to repair the front fenceline that has been damaged by vandals cutting the protective barbed wire and dragging the fencewire down which is a security worry. Hopefuly we can get that rectified in a short amount of time.

I am sure there have been other F-Troopers out on the course during the week that I have not seen - so many thanks to those workers as well. We are fortunate to have these adopt-a-garden volunteers who work quietly in their own time & maintain their patches beautifully. Unfortunately I do not get to see them so cannot acknowledge their work other than by gerneral reference.

Golf - Sunday 18th October 2009

Today was our very popular 'PRESIDENT VS CAPTAIN DAY' which is always well supported by the members. The 12.30 shotgun start proved to be a successful arrangement with all members arriving back at the clubhouse at the same time for presentation and many stayed on for dinner. It was noisy but very congenial and everyone seemed to have a very enjoyable day and certainly the fine weather contributed.

We had 119 starters with 7 visitors from Everglades, Kempsey, Morisset and Wyong.

This year the Captain's side were the "WINNERS" (Red shirts) with 14 1/2 points and the "President's side (Blue shirts) were valiant runner-ups with 12 1/2 points.
