F-Troop Monday 16th March 2009

It was a nice day to be at F- Troop this morning. We did not have a lot of starters today as a lot of our regulars had other comittments.

I did see Warren Gray on the rough cutter, George Foster painting the new privacy fence at the wedding garden, Bert Brink and Des Wilson working on the drainage plans, Yvonne Wilson working in the gardens. I did a draft chalk marking for the paths for the new garden at the practice nets, tidied up around the putting green and the ladies garden at the 13th.

The new privacy fence has materialised while I was away & we thank the Binn's family for their contribution to that. See the above photo with George Foster giving it a coat of colour.

I had a look at the new trees that have been planted while I have been away. There are three new Golden Penda's on the left of the 7th fairway near the dam and a Daintree Pine on the right hand side of the 15th. These were organised and planted by Martin Gallagher. Well done Martin! These trees were recommended by a horticulturist as suitable for a golf course.

Results of the State Special Olympics - 1st March 2009

In an earlier report I gave you a lead up to this special event whereby our Central Coast Disabled Golfers were training at Gosford Golf Club as our "Special guests" with the help of Mark Stimpson assisted by Richard Massey, Steve Laing, Mick Wilson and Steve Craven.

The group of Carley Chapman, Joanne Henderson, Carlie Belgre, Duncan Bond, Anthony Jackson, Glenn Kingman, Brad Perrin, Steve Robson and Peter Secomb were competing in the State Special Olympics that were held at Kooindah Waters on Sunday 1st March 2009.

It certainly gives me a warm fuzzy feeling to see eveyone out there having such a great time.

I see these events as a win/win for everyone.

Special congratulations to Mark Stimpson for having the foresight to organise the training assistance at our club and to Chris Connor for his involvement with the disabled golfers.

Again a special mention to our volunteer members Richard Massey, Steve Laing, Mick Wilson and Steve Craven who all generously contributed to the training days.

F - Troop - Monday 2nd March 2009

There has been some good work done in my absence including the privacy wall between the wedding garden and the practice nets. I have yet to have time to catch up with all the work that has been done but we have plans in place for a new garden to overlook the wedding garden under the trees at the practice nets. We have already received some donations towards this project so we should be able to make some inroads there very soon.

On Monday 2nd of March we had seven F troopers reporting for duty and included Martin Gallagher, Des Wilson, Yvonne Wilson, Geoff George, George Foster, Ray Presdee and Bert Brinks. Work done included filling in pot holes in the car park, loose timber removal around the course and tree trimming on the 10th & 12th fairways.

I have heard that Guy Moss has voluntered to do rough cutting on Thursday mornings. Welcome to F-Troop Guy.

F-Troop will be on again this Monday 16th March with George Foster in charge of the troops in clyde's absence. There is much work to be done so all help is most appreciated.

My thanks to all the F-troopers that contributed towards the garden maintenance in my absence. I will be at F-Troop this Monday 16th March & I will be forward planning the garden work to be done for the next six months. This includes the new garden at the practice nets, finishing off the 15th & 16th gardens, refreshing the gardens at the 12th & 13th and 2nd.

We had 211 starters with 11 visitors from Bankstown, Barnwell Pk, Camden Valley, Charlestown, Dunfreys and Gold Creek.

Special Guests Day Tuesday 23rd February 2009

Attached are photos of our Special Guests (disabled golfers) taken at their final practice and presentation at Gosford Golf Club.

These disabled golfers will be competing at the State Olympics to be held at Kooindah Waters Golf Club on Sunday 1st March.

For the past few weeks Mark Stimpson, supported by Richard Massey, Steve Laing, Mick Wilson and Steve Craven have coached these nine men and women on Tuesday afternoon. They are a very ethuisiastic group and it was most obvious that they appreciated the time and interest given to them by Mark and the other Gosford Golf Club Members.

The Board approved Mark's recommendation that they be made a Special Guest Member of the club. On Tuesday they were each presented with their card together with a shirt, cap and golf balls. All the recipients and their parents were so excited about their special cards.

The shirts and caps were provided and presented by Chris Connor.

The players names are Carley Chapman, Joanne Henderson, Carlie Belgre, Duncan Bond, Anthony Jackson, Glenn Kingman, Brad Perrin, Steve Robson and Peter Secomb.

F-Troop - Monday 23rd February 2009

This morning we welcomed Kerry Cubis to the ranks of F-Troop. Welcome aboard Kerry!

The half broken branch on the pine tree on the 11th proved to be too big a task. After an hour and a half of perservering it was put in the too hard basket for today.

Warren Gray & Gary Sammons were on cleanup duty of fallen timber, Spencer Walklate, Des Wilson & Martin Gallagher trimmed trees on each side of the 11th & 12th fairways. The drain on the 5th tee was cleaned out by Gary Sammons, Martin Gallagher, Garry Trigg, Warren Gray & Des Wilson and I understood this was a very smelly task (Gary was a little less delicate in his description of the job). It was a successful project and all the weed has been cleared from this drain and the overflow from the dam is ensuring that the remaining weed in this drain is flushed out to the creek parallel to the 5th fairway and ultimately into Narara Creek.

Clyde Cruickshank power cleaned the front stairs of the clubhouse and also the Wedding Gazebo.

I had discussions with Clyde today regarding the planning of the new garden at the practice nets which is a project we are keen to get rolling. Plans have been drawn & are in for approval - then it should be all go. We have received some donations for this project which is very helpful.

Yvonne Wilson was weeding & fertilizing at the 14th. I notice Wendy Stapleton was on duty today so no doubt some raking was done somewhere. Ray Presdee was on the rough cutter today. I was not able to stay long today so missed most people.

F-Troopers today were Clyde Cruickshanks, Martin Gallagher, Spencer Walklate, Garry Trigg,

Doug Incoll, Wendy Stapleton, Warren Gray, Des Wilon, Yvonne Wilson, Gary Sammons, Kerry Cubis & Ray Presdee.

Carry on the good work while I am away troopers. The course is getting better all the time & the recent rain has been a real bonus for the gardens.
