F-Troop Morning Tea - Duncan Dyer, Kevin O’Brien, Trevor Harrison, Paul Scholberg, Peter Martin, Jan Martin and Don Nicholls (Rob Benson, Terry Coyle, John Hollebon, Ron Gowing)

I was working on the 6th tee today when the storm hit but I could not fit
under the storm shelter because it was full of “golfers”.

It was a big day at Gosford Golf Course today with about 150 odd District Women Golfers playing in the Open Day.  The rush was on to get everything tidied and in order before start in play,

Unfortunately we had a storm arrive about 9.00am which called a stop for half an hour. Some teams finished early when there was follow up rain but others soldiered on.

Our F-Troop projects were much the same when the rain called a halt to some of our projects.

On hand we had Trevor Harrison, Duncan Dyer, Kevin O’Brien, Rob Benson, TerryCoyle, John Hollebon, Ron Gowing, Don Nicholls, Peter Martin and Jan Martin.

Projects worked on today were Gate control, Loose Timber and rubbish pick up, tidy up at the front of the clubhouse and the 1st and 10th Tees, hedge maintenance, firewood preparation, cleaning of the bush toilets, planting of more ground cover plants at the 6th tee native garden, tidy up of the 6th tranquility garden including some removal of couch grass, fertilising the roses at the putting green and the Wedding Garden, securing the iceberg rose at the putting green, maintenance at the clubhouse, removal of damaged drain pipe.

We were all a little water damaged and appreciated morning tea.

YES! WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE!

At the 1st Tee

Today was a nice clear day for golf, the course had drained well after all the rain. some breeze towards the afternoon was appreciated as the humidity was high. Our playing partners were Russell Willings and Melanie Forster who were great company. We had some good highlights with a birdie on the 10th from Russell and some good 3 pointers from Meanie.  There was some debate after our match as to who had won the Keno tickets - the boys eventually surrendered.

HIGHLIGHTS OF THE DAY as reported to me: Melanie Forster had 4 x 3 pointers; Russell Willings  was an improved player on the second 9 starting with a birdie on the 10th; Terry Coyle won nearest the pin on the 8th hole; Lorraine Bignall hit a great drive on the 3rd; Kevin O’Brien was busy building a picket fence having 8 x 1 pointers in a row - his new handicap of 10 was to blame; Eddie Rogers won nearest the pin on the 14th and sank the putt and in addition he won a $1 from Peter Martin; Annie Brink enjoyed the day; Wally Robertson had 4/4 on the 17th; Garry Baillie had 4/4 on the 11th; Rhonda Robertson parred the 10th; Neville Walker had 2/4 birdie at the 14th; Jan Walker enjoyed good company; Karen Askins had a 4 pointer at the 12th; Michael Cheetham kept missing by just this much ....!, My highlight was having a 3 pointer at the 17th and I did finish with the same ball I started with after fishing it out of some very strange places more than once.

Pennants Results - Sunday 16th February 2020

Gosford played Kooindah Waters today at Everglades Country Club in our first Pennant match of the season. Considering all the recent weather the course was in great condition and a pleasure to play.

We looked good early and I thought we may get a win in all 3 grades, but Kooindah Waters fought back very well to narrowly win A grade and get away with a win in B Grade. What a difference a few putts can make.

Gosford C grade though had a great win.
Nathan James won comfortably and will only get better with his new clubs. Paul Jefferson was on top all day and Shane Liedich fought on well to square his match. Special mention to Duncan Brown who injured his back before a ball was hit but soldiered on to go down on the 17th. Thanks to Garry Fitch who came along and supported the team.
Alex Palasty hit the ball long and straight all day and was ably supported by Keith Potter and they ran away with their match 5/3.

Our other two teams went down by the narrowest of margins but could have easily won their matches. Thanks to Scott Pilarski who was one of the first to arrive in case one of our B grade team where unable to play.

Flynn Cho is a star in the making and combined well with Michael Bacigalupo to win with 4 holes to spare. David James and Dave Wilson were never out of second gear and won 2 up. Cameron Dench and Clive fought back from 4 down on the twelve to be 1 down on the 18th. Clive put his second shot to 4 feet and was standing next to me on the green waiting to sink his birdie putt. His opponent drilled his shot into Clive’s left shoulder. Clive brushed himself off and calmly sank the putt and followed up with a fist punch as he squared the match.

Next week we take on Everglades at Kooindah Waters and I’m expecting our big guns to fire and I’m confident of a big win.

How good is Golf
