Update on Lauren Smith -Sydney Sixers

We are looking forward to seeing Lauren back at golf during her break in cricket.

1 from 2. Better start than last year, losing their first six!

Nice bit of bowling by the Gosford Golf Club Ladies member. She wants to get a few games of golf over the break, although it is also a busy time for the Big Bash.

Change in Ladies Patron 2017

Our wonderful Patron, Bere Hanley, after 18 years in this position has chosen to step down, it is also unlikely she will be playing golf next year. Bere's grace and warmth underlie the solid contribution she has made to the Club through the decades as player, committee member, Tai Kwon Do instructor, and, of course, in her final position. We will all miss her ready smile, beautiful swing, speedy play (take heed!) and good company very much.

The incoming Patron, June Bowen, has been a stalwart member of the Club for 47 years and her generosity and support for the  Ladies’ activities is well known, she has served the Lady Members well in many capacities. We wish her luck in her new position and consider she too will continue the line of outstanding women who have been Patrons of the Lady Members of Gosford Golf Club.

Beaulah Cant is also retiring from golf and together with Bere they were great club supporters over the years and were formidable competitive golfers who kept us on our toes playing very speedy and consistent golf right up to the present day. We wish them well in their retirement and they will be sadly missed.

We all aspire to be able to play golf well into our eighties just like these lovely ladies.

supporting the Christmas Theme.

I must confess I forgot this year that traditionally in past years members would make an effort to wear attire with a Christmas theme.  I have in past years supported this tradition but this year the thought did not occur to me.  I will try next year to remind everyone that this is one of our special days leading up to Christmas and is generally the last day that we get together before the silly season really sets in and we are distracted with other things.

Our playing partners today were Kevin O'Brien and Lorraine Bignall and we had an enjoyable day on the village (not so) green. The course had plenty of run and there were some good scores happening. Our best highlight was Kevin's shot to the 8th green where we thought he was very close to a hole-in-one - a nice birdie all the same.

The Golf Event of the day was a Team Stableford 1 x 2 x 3 + Men and Ladies Singles (Must have 2 men and 2 ladies in each team)

We had 96 starters with 1 visitor.

RESULTS:

TEAM WINNERS: George Foster, Vicki Foster, Wally Robertson and Rhonda Robertson - 94 points on a countback

TEAM RUNNERS UP: Jan Walker, Neville Walker, Garry Smith and Helen Smith - 94 points

MEN'S SINGLES RESULTS:

WINNER: Jan Van Den Berg - 44 points

RUNNER UP: Jemison Fitzgerald - 43 points

WOMEN'S SINGLES RESULTS:

WINNER: Vicki Foster - 44 points

RUNNER UP: Helen Smith - 43 points

MEN'S 12TH: David Hopkins

LADIES 8TH: Rhonda Robertson

BALLS WENT TO:

MEN: 38 points (neat)

LADIES: 36 points (neat)

DSR MEN: 66

DSR LADIES: 70

HIGHLIGHTS OF THE DAY as reported to me: I did not collect highlights today as we were late finishers however I do know that Vicki Foster scored 26 points on the back nine including a 4 pointer on the 10th followed by a series of 3 pointers finally finishing with a nice 44 points, Helen Smith loved the run on the course that helped her to score her 43 points; Kevin O'Brien had a great birdie on the 8th; Lorraine Bignall played the 16th beautifully narrowly missing a birdie; Peter Martin made some good recovery shots and putted well for his 40 points; my highlight was not wiping a hole and finishing with the same ball I started with.
