F-Troop - Monday 2nd April 2012

Another very busy day for the F-Troopers.  We were very light on with volunteers today with our other helpers sidelined with other priorities like work, pennants golf, holidays and the like which happens from time to time.

There were eight of us to spread the days work and we managed very well.

Geoff Bridge, Trevor Harrison & Sam Knox prepared some of the timber for splitting, removed and cut up a fallen branch at the practice nets and then filled in holes on the fairway paths.

Peter Martin & Rob Benson installed  watering systems into the gardens at the 1st and 10th tees. That will be a great time saver for the garden waterers. Peter & Rob also repaired the watering system on the 18th tee garden.

Arthur Verlander did a poison run around the course, also taking care of some camphor Laurel shoots coming up on the 2nd fairway.

Di Beechey cleaned up the BBQ area and helped me to plant out some newly donated plants in the course gardens. We created a new look for the large stump at the 7th green using plants donated by Richard & Leonie Casey (potted impatients) and some plants donated by Brian & Lesley Gregory (Dwarf Abelias) around the base of the stump); planted a "rainbow" tree donated by Julie Hazzard on the 3rd fairway;  tidied up the garden at the 12th and 8th tees; planted another Hebes plant at the 12th green garden and two more Geisha Girl plants at the fence line on the 1st fairway; planted two more gardenias at the wedding garden and some silver plants in the front garden to contrast well with the plants previously donated by Dawn Cook.  All these extra plants were donated by Brian & Lesley Gregory.  We transplanted some plants out of the front gardens and relocated them to an area on the island area of the 2nd dam to add some interest there.  We also chipped around some of the smaller shrubs and trees on the 2nd fairway and cut back some of the Camphor Laurels re-shooting along the fence line of the 2nd fairway.

We all deserved the beautiful morning tea for working so hard today.  Chef John supplied us with some beautiful fresh hot cross buns that were very welcomed by the F-Troopers. Thanks Chef John!

We have received a donation from Robin Incoll of some well established Roeas for the "tranquility" garden at the 6th which will finish off that area nicely.   Helen Stuart has donated a lovely flowering plant for our gardens that we will find a good place for. Thanks Robin & Helen!   My appreciation to ALL of our Members who have donated plants in the last few weeks. All of the plants will be put to good use.  It is all a matter of finding enough time and workers to get everything into place.  The gardens are all looking great - it is just a matter of keeping up the pace.

We are working up a really good firewood supply for this winter so it is time to get your timber orders in to Martin Gallagher so you are not caught short when the cold snap arrives.  All sales of timber go towards the beautification of the course so we have a WIN/WIN situation with the firewood sales.

YES! WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE!

Golf - Sunday 1st April 2012

We had a picture perfect day for golf today, blue sky and sunshine with a gentle breeze.  The greens were challenging coming out of their recent maintenance program so it was a bit of hit and hope when it came to sinking the putts.

Our playing partners today were Clyde & Lyn Cruickshanks and they were great company.  We had some good highlights throughout the day with Clyde scoring two birdies and Peter winning nearest the pin at the 12th.  The boys won the keno ticket although we kept them on their toes for the first nine and they never seemed to be more than two up at any stage.  Just a lucky day for them.

The Golf Event of the day was a Single Stableford + 2 Ball Team Mixed Men and Ladies.

We had 68 starters with 4 visitors from Emerald Lakes Qld, Mangrove Mountain, Shelly Beach & Royal Sydney.
