Golf - Friday 17th February 2012

We managed to get most of our golf in today at Moss Vale before a severe weather warning brought us in off the course.  We were able to take carts out today and the course had dried out substantially from the first day we arrived.   We had four days at Dormie House using a stay and play package which was good value. We were unlucky with all the wet weather in the Southern Highlands that affected all the courses in the area.
I do not want hear any complaints about a wet course at Gosford - our course recovers from heavy rain  far more quickly than any of the courses we have been on in the last week.

For those people that may be interested in a good day of golf at Moss Vale the club is promoting a Rotary Club of Moss Vale Charity Golf Day to be held on 23rd March 2012.  There is a 4 person ambrose competition, 8.30am  shotgun start.  Cost for Golf & Lunch $55 (Lunch only $20).  There are some great trophies on offer including a VW Polo Car (Hole in One 6th hole); super pin on the 11th - an opportunity to win $500 for nearest the pin and $1500 for a hole in one; best placed teams; longest drives for both men and ladies and a Bradman Trophy.

We had 88 starters with 13 visitors from Everglades, Avondale, Magenta Shores, Shelly Beach, Mangrove Mountain, Marrickville, Tamworth, Terrigal & Wyong.

We were lucky enough to get a fine sunny day for golf at Moss Vale today.  Unfortunately for us the course was still too wet for motorised carts so we had to walk our way around (two days in a row) which made it hard work with no run on the course. 

At Gosford the Golf Event of the day was a Ladies Single Stableford.

We had 25 starters.

What started out as a damp cloudy morning changed to bright sunshine by the afternoon so we were able to have 18 holes of Golf at Moss Vale today.

The Golf Event of the day at Gosford was a Men's Single Par and 2 Ball Team.

We had 192 starters with 7 visitors from Morisset, Oatlands, Shelly Beach, South West Rocks, Terrigal and West Wyalong.

Golf - Tuesday 14th February 2012 - Valentine's Day

Hello from Dormie House at Moss Vale.

To whom it may concern: Happy Valentine's Day!

We played golf at Highlands Golf Course at Mittagong today as it was the driest course in the district.  Even so it was very wet underfoot but we had no rain which was a bonus.

We are now checked into Dormie House at Moss Vale for a few days of golf.  The course here is very wet and there are no carts allowed on the course tomorrow as the course is still trying to recover from heavy rain yesterday.  Other Gosford Golfers spotted here were Peter & Margaret Davidson and Spencer & Tania Walklate.  Let us hope we have some sunshine in the next few days.

At Gosford today the Golf Event of the day was a Ladies Single Stableford.

We had 71 Starters.

F-Troop - Monday 13th February 2012

 

Hello from Bowral - not exactly beautiful one day and perfect the next - but we did manage to get 18 holes of golf in at Highlands Golf Course at Mittagong which was the driest of all the very wet golf courses in the district.  We were supposed to be playing at Wollongong but that has been totally out of action.  The course here at Gibraltar was out of action today as was Bowral Golf Course due to the heavy rain storms.  Highlands was our best option and may be our only choice for tomorrow as well as Moss Vale has also been under wet weather stress.

Gosford by comparison in the wet has not suffered nearly as much as the local courses here.
The courses here could do with some F-Troop help!

F-Troop today was all action with a lot of clean up work being done by our volunteers.

We had Martin Gallagher, Geoff Bridge, Duncan Dyer, Rob Benson, Warren Gray, Garry Trigg, Bruce White, Di Beechey and Anne Burgess on hand to get some good work done.

The boys cleaned up the bark & rubbish at the otto bin area in the back car park, collected up all the fallen pine cones at the 16th/17th area; Swept the paths and surrounds at the 7th, 17th and the path between the 17th green and the 18th tee. 

Warren and Bruce did a rubbish pick up on the front 9.

Duncan & Geoff removed fallen branches around the course.

Di Beechey & Anne Burgess cleaned up the car park and BBQ area; weeded the 4th garden near the tee and planted out some pigface plants which was donated by Bill and Annette Dunk; roped and staked the hedge plants in the front gardens; Trimmed the agapanthus and weeded the garden at the 2nd and weeded the putting green area.

It was a very busy morning and all our workers appreciated morning tea of tasty muffins.  Thanks Chef John!

Clean up work is always one of the hardest tasks because it is so ongoing - like painting the Harbour Bridge - it makes a huge impression when the course looks clean & tidy.

YES!  WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE!
