Golf - Tuesday 6th December 2011 - Annual Presentation and Christmas Day

There was no ladies golf today as the 2011 Annual Ladies Presentation and Christmas Dinner was held in the Sunset Room.  The day was well attended and everyone was in a festive mood.

I have got many photos to add so I am breaking the postings up into segments - starting with the Presentation of Trophies and finishing with the very popular concert that was put on by "The Jersey Boys" and "The Angels"   By this time tomorrow all the photos and videos should be in place.

The Committee and Social Committee did an excellent job of organizing the day, the room looked very festive  and everyone enjoyed a very nice relaxed day.

F-Troop - Monday 5th December 2011

Today was a good example of what can be achieved when we have a good turn up of volunteers.

Even though it was a cool, overcast day we still had 14 volunteers this morning which made such a difference to the volume of work we can get through.  This morning we had Duncan Dyer, Martin Gallagher, Sam Knox, George Foster, Des Wilson, Peter Martin, Bruce White, Rob Benson, Richard Casey, Di Beechey, Jan Walker, Anne Burgess, Yvonne Wilson & Jan Martin.

We had some major jobs to get through - the first being the moving of the F-Troop container at the
Greenkeeper's Shed to create more storage room for us.  Our thanks to Duncan Dyer for organising the use of a huge crane to lift the container from it's old position to fresh ground thus creating a useable space between the two containers.    The crane handled the job easily with the help of a large contingent of F-Troop supervisors.

Other good jobs done by the boys today was the cleaning up of the OOB area of the path along the 18th; removing of dangerous branches overhanging the car park at the BBQ area; Mending the broken fence at the BBQ area, collecting of more mulch for the garden at the 17th; picking up of loose timber and rubbish around the course; cutting down of the large stumps at the 18th; mowed the front street lawn area.

Not to be outdone by the boys, the girls achieved a good work load - collecting gum tree leaves and some flowers from our gardens to be used for decorations for the Ladies Christmas Luncheon to be held tomorrow;
weeded the gardens at the 6th; trimmed the shrubs at the 6th; poisoned the weeds in the 6th garden and pathways; weeded the garden at the back of the 5th; the gardens at the 3rd & 5th tees; the garden at the 2nd;
trimmed the azaleas and shrubs at the 17th; cleaned up underneath the clubhouse; Yvonne Wilson  fertilized the gardenias and camellias and the hydrangeas, maintained the plants under the clubhouse and gave some TLC to her adopted gardens.

We really enjoyed morning tea this morning after a hard morning's work.  Thanks Chef John! Fruit pastries and bread slice fresh from the oven - Yum!

We were intending to do some more poisoning of the Paspalum grasses this afternoon but the weather closed in and rained at the worst possible time.  We will try again when the weather improves.

YES!  WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE!

Golf - Sunday 4th December 2011 - Christmas Gala Day

What a shocker of a day for golf!  What started out as a nice day turned into a mid-winter re-run of freezing cold wind, thunder and on/off showers/rain which caught us all by surprise.  I had a shower jacket with me that was not nearly enough protection.  At the half way mark I was saved by Michelle McGrath offering me her warm jacket  to wear for the last nine holes.  My golf game improved substantially after that.

Our playing partners were Mary Bromwich and Warren Gray who both contributed well to the day.  We tried hard to score well at the vital moment.  Mary contributed with some great 3 pointers and Warren stormed home at the end and also scored our only birdie at the 15th.

The Golf Event of the day was a Single Stableford + Team 1 x 2 x 3 and Annual MIXED GALA DAY

We had 88 starters with 3 visitors.

RESULTS:

TEAM STABLEFORD 1 X 2 X 3 RESULTS:

HIGHLIGHTS OF THE DAY as reported to me:  Warren Gray had a birdie at the 15th; Mary Bromwich contributed some good 3 pointers for her team; Greg Incoll had a gobbler birdie at the 15th and a birdie at the 10th; Doug Incoll did some great putting; Judy Hughes was a good anchor for her team; Robin Incoll's highlight was Judy Hughes and Pam Witt finding her keys & valuables that were lost on the course; Ronda Jordon sank an unexpected long putt on the 13th and had to suffer a penalty because no one was holding the flag; Norma Cubis had 2/4 on the 14th; Ron Puiatti had birdies on the 10th and the 8th; Vicky Foster had a gobbler on the 3rd; George Foster & Ron Puiatti beat the girls for the keno ticket; Rhonda Robertson sank a good putt on the 9th for a par; Lorraine Bignall parred the 6th; Kay Frewin had three 3 pointers in a row; Bob Knox had 36 points and sank a 30 foot putt at the 15th; Leanne Binns had two 4 pointers; Bruce Binns had 40 points; Nigel Asken played well for his 34 points and Sheena tagged along; Robyn Johnston had a 4 pointer on the 9th; an unnamed team scored zero points on a one score to count hole at the 13th;  my highlight was having 3 pointers on the last two holes (pity about the rest) and getting a warm jacket from Michelle McGrath at the haflway mark to save my day.

"Happy Birthday" wishes to our hard working handicapper Maggie Minjoy who celebrated her birthday today.

Rob (Robbie) Brann - Saturday 3rd December 2011

It is with great sadness that I report that Rob (Robbie) Brann passed away this morning at 8.30 am after suffering a serious heart attack on Tuesday.

This was a huge shock to me - as it will be to all of our Members - who have been welcoming Rob back to golf after his recovery from losing his leg.   Rob has recently been back and enjoying playing golf regularly.

I understand Rob's funeral will be held this coming Friday at 11.30 am.  This will be confirmed when more details come to hand.

Deepest sympathy to Robin who will be in our thoughts and prayers.

Golf - Thursday 1st December 2011 - Christmas Closing Day

The first day of Summer and what a surprise the weather was after the last two hot days.  It was threatening to rain at the start of the day and was quite cool.  The strong breeze cleared the clouds and we had a lovely cool pleasant day for golf.  The Golf Course was in good order with the exception of some of the bunkers that are still water filled from the recent rains.

The Golf Event of the day was a Ladies 3Ball Ambrose - draw for partners and was the Thursday Christmas Closing Day.

We had 45 starters.

RESULTS:

3 BALL AMBROSE:

WINNERS:  Wendy Stapleton, Dawn Tromp & Michelle Kennett - 63 1/3 points

RUNNERS UP:  Sheena Asken, Faye Levenspiel & Clare Hastings - 64 2/3 points

BALLS WENT TO:  67 1/2

NO NEAREST THE PINS TODAY.

NO HANDICAPPING TODAY.

HIGHLIGHTS  OF THE DAY as reported to me: Rosie Judd, Evelyn Dixon, Helen Stuart - an 80 foot gobbler birdie at the 5th; Annette Cross, Jan Walker & Rosemary Cohen had a birdie on the 14th and Rosemary Cohen had a great long birdie putt on the 15th; Vicky Morris, Julie Craig & Lorraine Bignall had a birdie at the 6th; Sharon Anderson, Carol Farrell & Ronda Jordon chipped in for a birdie on the 18th and had a birdie on the 11th; Clare Hastings, Sheena Asken & Faye Levenspiel had birdies at the 6th, 7th and the 11th; Judy Verlander drove to the green on the 8th and sank the putt for a birdie; Rae Brown had her best drive on the 16th; some rumours on the day: - A nameless team left the flag out of the hole on the 6th and upset the following team ; another nameless person had a "fish" on the 1st; my highlight was having more than 3 of my drives taken in the Ambrose.

Another good highlight was that the RED BELLIED BLACK SNAKE was found sunning itself in the BBQ garden after golf today - and the good news is that it now has been removed from the garden and has a happy home at the Reptile Park.
