Golf - Tuesday 14th September 2010 - Invitation Day

A deluge of rain was not enough to dampen the spirits of our Ladies in Pink.

We had 122 starters today which was a wonderful show of support for our Invitation Day from which all benefits go to the Breast Cancer Foundation - one of our favourite charities.

The day commenced with an air of hope that the rain would hold off until our golf had finished.

This was not to be as the skies opened and the course was awash with water in a very short amount of time forcing the golf part of the day to be abandoned. We were all very disappointed about that as the day was shaping up to be a lovely day being a team event with a lot of fun challenges during the game. The players were allowed to purchase one metre of string (from Johnathon Homer - the pink fairy) to use as an escape from an unhappy place on the course, Our Director of Golf - Scott Cubis was driving off the 10th tee for anyone willing to donate $2. These were just a few of the opportunities offered on the day & it was a shame that the match got washed out. We did get very wet unfortunately but there were still lots of smiles regardless of the discomfort.

My playing partners today were Joy Reardon (Toukley), Jan Hoban (Terrigal) and Jan Walker and we were in winning form until we got wet. We had a lovely day regardless and have arranged for another game together at our next Invitation Day.

The Ladies in Pink quickly regrouped when coffee & eats were mentioned & moved upstairs to the comfort of the Sunset Room where our hard working Social Committee had set up a trade table and had some raffles on offer while we relaxed over lunch. My highlight was winning one of the raffles.

My congratulations to our Ladies Committee for all their organising skills and to our Social Committee for all their hard work in putting the day together. The pink theme looked wonderful & was fitting for the day. Our thanks to the Narara Valley Nursery for lending us the beautiful pink azaleas for the downstairs area.

Collectively everyone put in a great effort and I believe that this year was the best result ever for monies raised for the Breast Cancer Foundation. Everyone was very generous with their donations and special thanks go to our male members who very generously donated during the previous week. There will be a special announcement made of the final figure when it all has been tallied up CONGRATULATIONS TO ALL THE SUPPORTERS OF THIS SPECIAL DAY!

F-Troop Monday 13th September 2010

Another big clean up day for F-Troop and we had some good, very helpful & hardworking members volunteering for duty this morning. We had Duncan Dyer, Geoff Bridge, Martin Gallagher, Peter Murphy, Frank Whittington, Richard Casey, Peter Martin, George Foster, Des Wilson, Georgina Lamb, Di Beechey and Jan Walker.

There is so much clean up work to be done it was hard to pick which direction to go first. As tomorrow is a big day for the girls, being a special Invitation Day where we are expecting about 100 players to participate with visitors from all over the coast, we decided to clean up around the 1st and 10th tees and work our way through. Richard Casey, Peter Martin, George Foster, Georgina Lamb, Di Beechey & Jan Walker did some hard yards on the raking & cleaning & at the end of the morning we had cleaned up at the 1st & 10th tees, the Wedding Garden area & path to the tees, the 2nd fairway to the dog leg corner, the left side of the 3rd fairway, the 6th tee, back of the 9th green, swept & washed outside the clubhouse & Pro shop the path & furniture, cleaned the BBQ area, collected six flowering azaleas from the Narara Nursery to decorate the outside area tomorrow, finished off the mulching of the putting green hedges and cleaned out the guttering around the putting green. Martin Gallagher, Geoff Bridge, Duncan Dyer, Peter Murphy & Frank Whittington were very busy all morning working from the 18th backwards doing timber pick up, trimming the low hanging trees throughout the course & trimmed a shrub at the 10th tee which was obstructing the view of the 10th tee from the Pro Shop. Des Wilson did some project managing at the Pro Shop.

We were busy, busy, busy all morning & were all hanging out for morning tea. Today we enjoyed a smorgasbord of varieties of cakes and slices. Thanks to Brad & staff for supplying the morning tea which is always very welcome.

We had a lot of social players on the course today which was good to see. We did get some good comments on the state of the course.

YES! WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE!

Golf - Sunday 12th September 2010

Another ideal day for golf and I am surprised that we did not have more starters on such a lovely day and with the course is playing so well as you can tell by the scores. There is plenty of run on the fairways but the greens are still a furry after maintenance. In a couple of weeks the greens will be top class and then we will be sorting the men from the boys with the putting expertise.

The Event of the day was a Medley Team Event + Single Stableford for Men and Ladies.

We had 90 starters with 6 visitors from Mangrove Mountain, Riverside Oaks and Terrigal.

HIGHLIGHTS OF THE DAY as reported to me: George Foster's highlights were getting Peter Martin's $1, a birdie at the 16th, scoring 23 points on the back 9; Vicki Foster's highlights were beating the boys for the keno ticket and scoring 40 points using her newly purchased Taylor Made Driver that she firstly hired in Ireland & loved it so much it was a "must have" when she got home -( a wise investment Vicki!); Norma Cubis scored 41 points with a birdie 4/4 at the 18th and 5/4 at the 10th; Kerry Cubis had a birdie 4/3 at the 10th; Lorraine Bignall had 4 pointers at the 5th and the 7th; Robin Brann parred the 13th; Doris Morris had two 4 pointers; Keith Morris had three 4 pointers; Rae Brown & Graham Brown each had one 4 pointer; Neil Worr scored 5/3 on the 3rd; Sandy Laybutt had 4/5 on the 2nd and Peter Laybutt scored 4/4 on the 2nd to give the team 9 points for the 2nd hole; Pauline Norman had had three 4 pointers including 5/4 on the 9th and 3/4 on the 5th; Roger Williams had a birdie on the 12th; Priscilla Webster had 43 points including 3/4 on the 8th; Joyce Bosely had 38 points including 3/4 on the 8th; John Webster had 4/4 on the 13th; Bert Jordon had a gobbler at the 12th; Sheena Asken had a birdie at the 11th and is happy with her new handicap; Col Adams chipped in for a par at the 1st after never being on the fairway, chipping out backwards with a straddle shot from under the trees at one point; June Bowen had 40 points including two 4 pointers; David Small & Kath Small played the 9th well including 40 points and 23 points on the back 9; Denise Bentlin had 4/4 on the 5th; Chris Dekkers's highlight was playing golf with 3 men - Arthur Haviland, Garry Wilkinson and Ron Dekker; Rosalie Dyer had a birdie 2/4 at the 8th and was perilously close to scoring a Hole-in-One (photo attaxhed) ; Duncan Dyer had 4/4 on the 15th; Peter Martin secured the Keno ticket for the boys with a perfect 30 foot putt into the hole for par at the 17th; my highlight was watching Rosalie Dyer's drive almost go into the hole at the 8th,

OTHER HIGHLIGHTS OF THE DAY: Good news from Clyde Cruickshanks who is recovering well from his operation & will be home soon; A big welcome home from overseas to George & Vicki Foster and Ron & Lynn Puiatti; Congratulations to Yvonne & Des Wilson who have announced that they are to be grandparents for the first time (next March); Denis Powe and Clive Hartley are new Members to our club and put in a handicap card today so we can look forward to them playing in our competitions in a few weeks when they have established their handicaps - Welcome Denis & Clive; Today I received a wonderful donation of many garden gloves (photo attached) from the East Gosford Newsagency ( Bruce and Leanne Binns and Peter & Sandy Laybutt). This donation is much appreciated by the F-Troop workers and only just last Monday I was approached by a Member who wanted to help out with the "clean up" after the gale force winds of last Sunday & I did not have a spare pair of gloves to offer her to protect her hands. A big "THANK YOU" to the East Gosford Newsagency!

I was working in the garden at home this morning (before golf) with grandson Joel & have slipped in some photos taken of him helping me water the new rose "Hot Chocolate" that he bought me for my recent birthday and doing some 'digging' in the rose garden. (Just can't help myself)

Golf - Saturday 11th September 2010

Once again we had a wonderful day for golf and for weddings - blue sky and sunshine which was made very welcome by everybody. The Wedding Garden and the Magnolia Room looked beautiful for the wedding and judging by the golf scores the course was playing well - so all is good on the village green.

The golf event of the day was a Men's Single Stableford + 2 Ball Team.

We had 201 starters with 4 visitors from Bega, Tamworth & Trundle.

Golf - Thursday 9th September 2010

It was the all important garden competition day when we had three members of the Gosford City Garden Competition team to inspect our gardens & make judgement for the categories of "Best Commercial Garden", "Best Theme Garden" & "Best Eco Garden". We will find out the results on Thursday 23rd September 2010 when all the winners will be announced at a Presentation Evening at Erina. We are competing against all of the Commercial gardens in the Gosford Shire including gardens tended by professional qualified gardeners - so wish us luck !


The Golf Event of the day was a Ladies Single Par Over the Field and we had 18 starters.
