The Event of the day was a Men's Single Stableford + Teams Event.

We had 204 starters with 5 visitors from Everglades, Muirfield & Wyong.

Golf - Friday 12th March 2010

One of F-Troop's projects for this week was to maintain the garden at the 18th tee and to chip & weed the newly planted camellias along "Camellia Way" between the 17th green and the 18th fairway. This was achieved over a three day period (between rain showers). The camellias look much better for the tidy up, the garden "rabbit proof" fence has been repaired, the leaking tap fixed and the watering system for the garden in working order. A pick up of loose timber and a rake through the paths was a simple operation that has tidied the whole area.

MEMBERS PLEASE NOTE: The tap at the garden at the 18th is connected to the dam water supply and is not suitable for drinking water (note warning notice at the tap). It is not good for your health to use this water. Please use the ball washer supplied to clean your golf balls. The water supply is intended only for the watering of the garden & surrounding plants.

The protective tree guards around the camellias to keep out the rabbits and other pests have been completed. Many thanks to Judy Hughes for her generous donation of tree guards for this area. As has been reported previously we have lost a couple of orchid plants from the garden at the 18th through theft which is very disappointing for us and the people who originally donated the plants. My thanks to Helen Stuart who has donated a replacement orchid for this garden.

We have so far taken 5 orders for timber winter fuel from Members which is very much appreciated by F-Troop. The first of the timber deliveries will begin this weekend. Profits from the sale of this timber will go towards the purchase of more plants for the course and also for important maintenance costs like fertilizer for the new camellias that have just been planted.

Thank you very much to our supportive Members. Your help & support is very much appreciated & assists us to reach our goals to beautify our golf course.

The Golfing Event of the day was a Single Stableford for Men and Ladies.

We had 86 starters with 19 visitors from Everglades, Grose River, Leonay, Magenta, Mangrove, Moss Vale, Orchard Hills. Overseas, Terrigal & Wyong.

An F-Troop job today was to chip and weed the camelias, rake the paths & clean up loose timber along the "Camelia Way" between the 17th green and the 18th tee. This was partly achieved until the persistant rain made it too difficult to work. Better luck next week!

The golf continued through the wet with the numbers down a little today because the rain set in.

We had perfect weather for golf today - blue sky and sunshine with a comfortable breeze.

My playing partners today were Pauline Norman and Lea Southon. They were great company & we did have a few highlights with Pauline getting a 4 pointer at the 14th & won the nearest the pin.

The Event of the day was a Ladies Single Stableford with Vets in conjunction.

We had 81 starters with visitors from Mona Vale and Belmont.

HIGHLIGHTS OF THE DAY as reported to me: Pauline Norman had a great 4 pointer on the 14th as well as winning nearest the pin; Carol Farrel had 4/4 on the 15th which followed a 3 pointer on the 14th at that point doubling her score; Lyn Douglas had 2 birdies; it was reported that Christine Drakeford hit a great shot onto the 11th and needed to be substantially calmed down from her high after she thought the shot had gone into the hole; Yvonne Wilson had 6/3 on the 18th after a good sandy shot; In Lee had two good pars; Norma Presdee had a nice shot on the 8th for 3/3 and won nearest the pin; Yvonne Cumming had some good putts today.

Gosford played Wyong at Toukley today and were defeated 5 1/2 to 2 after some valiant efforts from the boys.

F- Troop - Monday 8th March 2010

We had a fantastic day at F-Troop today with more helpers turning up which shared the load.

We welcomed a new member to F-Troop today who will help me with the garden work and that is Georgina Lamb. Welcome Georgina & thank you for your valuable help today.

Those I saw at F-Troop work today were Martin Gallagher, Garry Trigg, Arthur Verlander, Geoff Bridge, Bruce White, Warren Gray, Doug Incoll, Duncan Dyer, Peter Martin, Des Wilson, Yvonne Wilson, Georgina Lamb, Di Beechey and Anne Burgess.

Many hands make light work & so it was today with so many tasks being achieved.

Our main project today was to secure a roof to the old container that we have taken over as security for our maintenance tools & equipment. We have a secure, dry area for storage which will be very useful for us.

Duncan Dyer, Martin Gallagher, Des Wilson, Geoff Bridge & Bruce White removed a dangerous nuisance tree near the storage container & fixed some weatherproof roofing to the container to keep our tools & equipment safe and dry.

Warren Gray & Doug Incoll took charge of hedging and rubbish pick up. They trimmed the hedges at the 2nd, 8th, 7th and 12th as well as raking paths and picking up garden rubbish.

Peter Martin & Arthur Verlander put a new backing board at the white pebble garden at the wedding garden area. This was to stop dirt & pine leaves from washing through the pebbles when we have heavy downfalls of rain. Peter & Arthur also did some big loose timber pickups around the course.

Garry Trigg did a long shift on the rough cutter.

Yvonne Wilson fertilized and watered the gardens at the front of the clubhouse taking particular care of the gardenias which are responding to the TLC that Yvonne has been giving them. After morning tea Yvonne & Des did some maintenance on their gardens at the 5th, 14th & 15th.

Di Beechey, Georgina Lamb & I had a big morning in the gardens at the 12th, 13th, 14th, 15th, the wedding garden area, front of the clubhouse and 1st and 10th tees as well as raking paths, tees and lawn areas. Di hosed down the underneath area of the clubhouse & around the BBQ area.

Anne Burgess trimmed the bougainvilleas at the back of the 10th green.

Morning tea was a grand affair with 16 of us enjoying ham and cheese croissants fresh from the oven - just delicious ! Thanks John & Nick. It is no wonder our Greens Committee leader Mark Stimpson arrives every Monday just in time for F-Troop discussions AND morning tea.

As I said before "many hands make light work" and the extra hands today were a great help.
