Golf - Friday 8th January 2010

Another perfect day for golf & the day was enjoyed by many golfers coming through the course as I was gardening. We had 93 players in the daily competition followed by a lot of social golfers filling up the rest of the day which was great to see. The course is in good condition so it was great to see the course fully utilized by Members and visitors.
The gardens at the 6th and the 2nd are currently the focus of maintenance after the recent rain has encouraged a lot of weed growth. Monday is the next F-Troop day for course maintenance for our F-Troop & we are looking forward to Member support for our maintenance programs. This Monday is set down for maintence & painting of the fence along the 18th fairway leading to the car park along with general clean up & garden maintenence.
You may notice some new colour in the Magnolia garden leading to the 1st and 10th tees. You can thank Di Beechey for the bargain purchase of new impatient flowers to add colour today to this important garden. Thanks Di! Your efforts are appreciated.
The Event of the day was a Single Stableford for Men and Ladies.

Golf - Tuesday 5th January 2010

We had a lovely sunny day for golf today which was a nice change from previous weeks. My playing partners were Jan Walker and Doris Morris. Our golf wasn't great but the company was. Jan Walker got a gobbler 4/3 at the 15th which was the highlight of our day. There were some nice scores coming in from the later morning groups so perhaps less moisture and dew on the course was helpful.
The Event of the day was a Ladies Single Stableford - Over the Field Summer Competition and we had 58 starters.
RESULTS: over the field
WINNER: Mary Beard - 41 points
RUNNER UP: Marianne Lanham - 38 points
3RD: Leonie Casey - 37 points
4TH: Debbie Grinham - 36 points
5TH: Leanne Binns - 35 points
6TH: Christine Drakeford - 34 points
7TH: Yvonne Cumming - 33 points on a countback
8TH: Lorraine Linnert - 33 points on a countback
BALLS WENT TO: 30 points
AWCR LADIES: 73 (36 points)
HIGHLIGHTS OF THE DAY as reported to me: Cheryl Davidson had 4/4's at the 7th and the 4th; Mary Beard had 24 points on the front nine and just missed a birdie on the 1st with the ball running around the cup & refusing to drop in; Ronda Jordon had 2 gobblers; Jan Walker had a gobbler 4/3 on the 15th; Leonie Casey had birdies on the 6th and the 15th; Glennis English had a birdie on the 6th; Fay Bailey extracted her shot out of the base of a tree on the 18th by using her pitching wedge for a "back-the-front" slammer & it got her back on the fairway.

F-Troop Monday 4th January 2010

For the small contingent of F-Troop workers that we had on hand today we achieved great things. Those troopers on duty were Duncan Dyer, Martin Gallagher, Garry Trigg, Geoff Bridge,
Peter Martin and Warren Gray. It was worth coming today just for the lovely morning tea we had provided by chef John - fruit pastries fresh from the oven - yum!
The main project of the day was to clean the car parks - front, side & back. The front car park was quite a challenge by itself but it was masterfully cleaned and hedges trimmed so that the entrance to the clubhouse now says " come in -You are Welcome " .
The side and back carparks were cleaned as best we could before the cars arrived. We then transferred our efforts to the path from the Pro Shop right down to the first and tenth tees.
Trimming hedges and shrubs & removing rubbish. The troopers then removed crab grass from the 10th and 1st tees, picked up timber from around the course, weeded the small magnolia garden, dead headed the agapanthus & trimmed the hedge around the putting green.
It was a huge workload for such a small crew but the effort made a huge difference to the appearance of the club grounds. Well done F-Troopers!
YES! WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE!

Golf - Sunday 3rd January 2010

Prior to leaving for golf this morning I checked the 'Elders' local weather report which did say 23 degrees and showers/sunshine. Then I backed that up with a review of the weather radar loop which did not show any signs of local rain. Convinced that the weather was going to fine up quickly we committed to a game of golf in drizzling rain which was pretty much ongoing all day with some brief reliefs followed by heavier rain just to make sure that we stayed wet. As I have well advertised before - I am not a happy wet weather golfer & would have stopped half way except that our playing partners Doug & Robin Incoll were having a good round thus far & it seemed very uncharitable to stop at that time. We did have a good day in spite of the rain & had a lot of fun beating the boys for a keno ticket on the 17th hole which I squared with Doug's 3 pointer to prevent the boys from winning the hole ( my highlight of the day). Robin won a ball which put us in the winners circle.

The Event of the day was a Medley 2 Ball Team + Single Stableford for Men and Ladies.

We had 72 starters with 8 visitors from Kurri, Riverside Oaks, South West Rocks, Tuggerah Lakes and Tura Beach.
