F-Troop - Monday 28th February 2011

It was a rushed morning for me at F-Troop today as I was also participating this afternoon in the District Open Day being held this year at Everglades. My playing partners were Fay Bailey, Wendy Stapleton and Faye Levenspiel and we had a very enjoyable day at Everglades. It was a well run day by the District Ladies Committee and Everglades Ladies Committee. There were many Gosford Ladies attending the day including some of our regular F-Troopers.
We had eleven starters at F-Troop which was great as there was a lot of cleaning up & planting jobs to be done. We had Martin Gallagher, Duncan Dyer, Peter Martin, Geoff Bridge, Des Wilson, Garry Trigg, Richard Casey, Bruce White, Georgina Lamb & Anne Burgess.
Martin, Duncan, Geoff, Des, Garry & Richard worked hard on the tree trimming at the 3rd and 4th Fairways carting away a lot of surplus rubbish.
Georgina Lamb cleaned up the downstairs area of the club & the front car park.
Anne Burgess worked on the Bougainvilleas along "Camellia Way" giving them a good mulching & fertilizing and some deep watering. Anne also fertilized and mulched the Kangaroo Paw garden at the BBQ area.
I worked on the garden above the wedding garden - trimming back the Bougainvillea that had grown out of control, planted out some newly donated plants (Donated by Gavin Godwin - THANKS GAVIN!) to fill in the gaps in the garden that are trodden down by trespassers.
Peter was the "Gofer" helping out the troops with tools, rubbish pick up & removal.
Martin Gallagher also trimmed the Grevilleas on the 6th and the palm fronds at the 14th that were in need of trimming.
Morning tea was a delicious variety of mini slices of cake - Thanks Chef John!
A good morning's work was done by all.
YES! WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE!

Golf - Sunday 27th February 2011

We were very fortunate with the weather today. It had threatened to be 31 degrees with heavy rain showers. We had a reasonable amount of cloud cover and some very little light showers which were, if anything, comforting from the humidity.
We had a great day on the village green with our playing partners Graham & Rae Brown, who both started out on fire. We had our acceptance speeches written out until the halfway mark when our wheels started to fall off. We had some really good highlights during the day - the least of which was that the boys very narrowly beat the girls for the keno ticket.

Gosford Golf Ladies who are members of the "Three Putt" club had their annual luncheon at "The Cove" Restaurant at Terrigal today. Those attending were Rosemary Cohen, Jan Martin, Jan Fitzgerald, Carol Farrell, Bev Adams and Norma Presdee. We had a lovely day in perfect weather overlooking Terrigal Haven. I have attached some photos of our desserts and will leave you to guess who had which dessert.

We have finally cracked a pleasant day for golf for our Ladies Tuesday Competition. The anticipated rain did not happen and the cloud cover kept the temperature down for most of the round.

F-Troop - Monday 21st February 2011

The rain does not weary the die-hards of the F-Troopers. Today we worked well in the light rain and it was certainly preferable to the blasting heat of the last few weeks.
While we were waiting to see if the weather was going to hold we cleaned up the neglected corner at the cart shed area & tried with some difficulty to remove the tree stump which stubbornly refused to budge in spite of it's deterioration.
We had nine F-Troopers braving the weather today - Sam Knox, Geoff Bridge, Martin Gallagher, Peter Martin, Di Beechey, Des Wilson, Yvonne Wilson, Jan Martin & Duncan Dyer (with his late note).
Sam Knox arrived very early & worked right through the morning cutting up firewood for the F-Troop timber sales. This is a much appreciated effort as we rely heavily on our firewood sales to support our F-Troop projects. Thanks Sam!
It is worthy to note that firewood sales this last week funded the purchase of a new lightweight chain saw which was one of our priorities. F-Troopers Des Wilson & Peter Martin assisted Martin Gallagher through the week to deliver and stack purchased firewood valued in excess of $500. Thanks to Martin, Des & Peter for their efforts.
Another thank you to June Bowen for her garden work through the week.
We received a donation of Agavi's in different stages of maturity from Member Don Nicholls this morning. Thanks Don! We will find happy homes around the course for them.
Di Beechey did some hard yards at the gardens near the 12th green & then joined the rest of F-Troop for the course clean up.
Yvonne Wilson concentrated on the clubhouse gardens doing some trimming and fertilizing - and after morning tea going out the the 14th gardens with help from Des.
Geoff, Peter, Martin, Des & Jan combined to do a course clean up starting at the wedding garden and the 1st tee - cleaning up fallen branches & clearing the garden bins; raked and tidied the path at the 1st green; raked and cleaned up at the Ladies 3rd tee; raked and cleaned up at the 5th tee; picked up garden rubbish and secured one of the grevillias at the 6th tee; cleaned up the drain at the left of the 6th fairway; raked and cleaned up the 7th tee; raked and cleaned up at the 4th tee and path including fallen branches; picked up fallen branches at the 9th fairway; cleaned up the 13th tee; picked up garden rubbish at the 12th green garden; Di Beechey joined us at this point and we moved to the 16th fairway & 17th tee where we raked and cleaned up the Bunya Pine mess. This was our biggest job of the day as the Bunya Pine leaved are very spiky and difficult to clean up including the discarded destroyed pine cones from the cockatoos.
Duncan Dyer arrive with his late note at that time and inspired us to clean up the Bunya Pine mess at the 17th fairway. Di Beechey concentrated on the 17th tee and the rest of us did the 17th area.
We moved down to the 17th green and decided we needed a morning tea break before continuing, collecting some fallen branches down between the 10th and the 18th fairways on the way to morning tea. After morning tea we continued the cleanup of the 17th - Bunya Pines on the right hand side approach to the green; pathway to the left of the green and the pathway 17th to 18th green.
Morning Tea was very welcome as we had all worked very hard in the light rain. Chef John made us some delicious scones, Jam & Cream which was appreciated by us all.
It was a huge morning's work by all of our F-Troopers attending today and we actually made it right through our list of allocated tasks for the morning and then some added jobs we fell across along the way. Geoff delivered multiple full loads of rubbish to the dumping area (at least five before I lost count).
We made a good team effort today which prompts me to say.....
YES! WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE!
