New Year's Eve 2009 - Gosford Golfer's at Yellow Piano

The Yellow Piano was the venue for this year's New Year's Eve celebrations for some with a "Glitz and Glamour" night being the theme for the Gosford Golfer's table. It was a very entertaining night with good food and wine and lots of dancing.
The Yellow Piano is celebrating it's 10th year anniversary coming up next year which is a great achievement for Trevor who has owned and operated the restaurant for all of that time.
We saw in the New Year & celebrated until the wee hours of the morning. The evening went very quickly which is a good indicator of being well entertained.

Golf - Wednesday 30th December 2009

We received a donation of Garden Furniture from Brian Zimmerli and it has been placed near the putting green for our Members comfort. Thanks Brian - your donation is greatly appreciated. Photo attached of our recent improvements including a table & chair setting compliments of Ron & Chris Dekker and an umbrella compliments of Clyde Cruickshanks & now additional seating at the putting green area compliments of Brian Zimmerli. Without this great support from our Members it would be difficult to keep up appearances.

Golf - Tuesday 29th December 2009

If you did not play golf at Gosford Golf Club today then YOU MISSED A TREAT. The course is looking fabulous after the recent rains. The fairways & greens are lush & it was a pleasure to play on the course today. The blue sky and sunshine of today settled the course into a very playable state.
My playing partners for a social game of golf were Wendy Stapleton, Jan Walker & Fay Bailey.
Wendy had a nice easy 37 points & was the champion of our group with Fay providing the highlight of the day when her buggy got a mind of it's own & upended itself in the bunker at the 15th.
It was not that long ago that rain such as we had over the last few days would have caused havock on the course with bad drainage, mud and slush everywhere. It was not unusual to have the course closed for days at a time. What a great improvement & congratulations to the ground staff & Club Management for dealing with these wet weather problems. Closing of the course does not seem to be an issue these days.
Water supply is always an ongoing problem & is also being well addressed by the management. The recent rains have filled all of our dams to capacity so that the future hot summer months ahead this year should not cause any water shortage. (David, our course superintendant is very happy with this recent water supply into the dams)
As there were no competition matches today I do not have a results report.

Golf - Sunday 27th December 2009

The rain has been very welcome over the last few days to bring the fairways, greens and gardens back to quality condition.
As the forecast was continuing rain I was hesitant to play as I do not enjoy wet weather golf.
Our partners today were Jim Forrester & Carmen Fitzgerald. Carmen was of the same mindset as myself & several of the other girls. The boys decided that they would be diehards & go out anyway with us girls arranging to meet them in the clubhouse after golf.
The Event of the day was a Single Event for Men and Ladies.
We had 34 starters with 1 visitor from the Gold Coast Qld.

F-Troop Monday 21st December 2009

It was a challenging day at F-Troop today, being the week of Christmas, people have places to go and things to do. We were lucky to get enough workers to get through the major issues of the day.

F-Troopers on duty today were Duncan Dyer, Garry Trigg, Des Wilson, Bert Brink, Geoff Bridge, Peter Martin and Anne Burgess. We were ably assisted by our expert tree lopper Roger.

The main project was the felling of the large tree at the 13th dam. This was necessary to enlarge the dam capacity and to give space remove the silt build up. It was all hands on deck at 7.00 am for this chore. The tree was brought down expertly with no damage done. The F-Troopers then had to reduce the tree to smaller portions so that it can be used for firewood next winter.

Anybody wanting to go on the waiting list for this excellent burning timber for next year's fuel should contact Martin Gallagher to register their interest.

As many of you would have noticed on Sunday that the high winds of the last week have bought down a lot of branches, leaves and bark especially around the 1st and 10th tees. We had a major clean up of this area & filled the trailer and tractor trailer several times with rubbish removal around the course. The tees cleaned up today included the 1st, 10th, 7th, 13th and the 17th. We also cleaned up the area between the 1st tee and the wedding garden, trimmed, sprayed and watered the roses, watered the wedding garden & elk horns, raked the paths at the wedding garden & the putting green, & put fresh water in the birdbath. Anne Burgess fertilized, trimmed and mulched the Kangaroo Paws at the BBQ garden. Another volunteer member swept out the practice nets of leaves and rubbish when he came over to practice. This was greatly appreciated as we F-Troopers cannot spread ourselves thin enough to cover all the needy areas of the course & to have someone help out in this way is a great bonus for us.
During last week Yvonne & Des Wilson worked in the rain the weed, fertilize and mulch their gardens ready for the hot months ahead. Richard & Leonie Casey have tidied up their garden on the front street. Keeping it neatly trimmed and mowed makes such a difference to our front entrance. Thanks to our Adopt-A-Garden workers who have done such a great job throughout the year.

I take this opportunity to wish all our F-Troopers a very happy Christmas & we are looking forward to the challenges of 2010. F-Troop will continue throughout the holidays & will be on again next week with the Car Park area being the targeted project. If you have got time to come and help - then please do. We will be meeting early so that we can have access to the car park before it gets filled with cars. Watch this blog for more information as we get closer to the day.

YES! WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE!

F- Troop - Year End Golf Day & BBQ 2009

Today we celebrated another very successful "F-Troop" year with a "Golf Day" for the men followed by a "BBQ" for the mixed Men and Ladies group of "F - Troopers".

We had some special awards for some of the outstanding people of our Group:

Outstanding Chef: John from the kitchen for supplying our much appreciated morning teas.

Outstanding lady gardener: Yvonne Wilson for her extra yards that she put in this year.

Outstanding quiet achievers: Richard & Leonie Casey for keeping the front street gardens in pristine condition with hardly anybody noticing their efforts.

Outstanding perserverance: Di Beechey for her "Frogs" that keep being souveniered from the BBQ area.

Outstanding Leader: Martin Gallagher for his ability to call the troops to "arms" on needy jobs.

Outstanding tree lopper: Duncan Dyer for his above average ability with the chain saw.

We had a good turn up of troopers for the event and it was good to see so many members able to attend who are willing to give their time to improve and beautify our course. I take my hat off to all of our troopers for this year's effort. I believe that we have made a huge difference and I hope that we can have the same support next year so that our course can continue to improve & be the outstanding course on the Central Coast. No "One person" could possibly make a dent in the work that is necessary to maintain this course so a collective effort is necessary, with everyone contributing in the best way that they can - be it big or small. Everything helps.

WELL DONE F-TROOPERS! YES WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE!

AND BRING ON 2010 so we can continue our good work.

MAYBE WE CAN QUALIFY FOR THE BEST CENTRAL COAST COMMERCIAL GARDEN OVER 1,000 SQ METRES FOR TWO YEARS IN A ROW!
