We had a mixed weather day today but no real rain. High humidity made the day a bit testing.

We had 80 ladies attending a lovely day which was enjoyed by all. My playing partner today was Margaret Spierings and we had a fun day trying our best as we were one player short which put the pressure on.

There was a thick fog over the course at 7.00am this morning. I needed a GPS to find my way to the 15th tee.

The course was busy with the Vets + Medley Stablefordvplayers + Social Players.

We had eleven volunteers doing the hard yards today.

On hand we had Sam Knox, Duncan Dyer, Kevin O’Brien, Rob Benson, John Hollebon, Don Nicholls, Mick Grant, Peter Martin, Bev Way, Lyn Bates and Jan Martin.

Projects worked on today were Tree maintenance, Hedge maintenance, Pick up of loose timber and rubbish from around the course, clean up of paths around the clubhouse, parking area, plus paths around the course, tidy of the the BBB’s gardens at the 2nd and 3rd, tidy up of BBQ area, planting in new plants at the front of club gardens, more work done on cleaning out the streletzia garden on the 15th.

Morning tea was most appreciated as it had turned out to be quite hot by then.

We enjoyed a visit from Ron Gowing who has donated us two more plants for the front garden. Thank you for you support Ron.

Last week we played Breakers at Shelly Beach Golf Club. Our A grade had a bye. B grade were 2 games all and for the second week in a row went down in the playoff. C Grade also went close but lost 3 to 1.

This week we played Everglades at Kooindah Waters. Three of our A grade players went down the 18^th in contention and Mick McLaren had a strong win but we went down 4 ½ to 1 1/2. Dan Rogers had a tough day and had some unlucky lies as you can see form the photos. We were not far away from a win.

B grade again looked good but went down 3 to 1 and C grade had a good win 2 ½ to 1 ½ after Joe Woodhead won the last hole to square his match.

Next week a bye and then onto Magenta shores.

 Thank heavens for the breeze today which made it bearable on the course. Later in the afternoon cloud cover and a drop in temperature made the last 4 holes for us very comfortable.

Our playing partners were Neville and Jan Walker who were great company. Neville was our champion player today and was the only one to win a ball. My only highlight was finishing with the same ball I started with.

F-Troop - Monday 22nd January 2024

After such a hot day yesterday we were happy to have some cooler weather to work on our projects.

We had 11 volunteers which was great to see as we are still all in holiday and babysitting mode.

On hand we had Sam Knox, Trevor Harrison, Duncan Dyer, Kevin O’Brien, Don Nicholls, Rob Benson, John Hollebon, Peter Martin, Mick Grant, Lyn Bates and Jan Martin.

Projects worked on today were Loose Timber and rubbish pick up around the course, Tree maintenance, Hedge Maintenance, clean up of gardens on the 2nd tee, weed maintenance at the 16th lavender garden, more work done on tidy up of the streletzia garden at the 15th, repairs to fence on the 18th fairway.

A special mention to John Hollebon today who worked up ladders today working on hedge maintenance all morning and did not have time for morning tea. Well done John!

I was sad to see two of our new lavender plants on the 16th have disappeared. I especially purchased with F-Troop funds a pink and a white lavender plant to enhance the area. 

We welcomed Mick Grant as a new member of F-Troop today. We tested him out on the loose timber pickup around the course. We hope he comes back again next week.

Morning Tea of fresh sandwiches was very welcome after a hard mornings work.

After a night of heavy rain and threatening showers it was good to see so many volunteers turn up to work on our projects today.

On hand we had Trevor Harrison, Sam Knox, Duncan Dyer, Kevin O’Brien, Don Nicholls, Rob Benson, John Hollebon, Peter Martin, Bev Way, Lyn Bates, Carolyn Buttsworth and Jan Martin.

Projects worked on today were loose timber and rubbish pick up around the course, tree maintenance, clean up of front car park, hedge maintenance, tidy up of garden at the 2nd tee, more work done cleaning up the streletzia garden at the 15th tee, dead heading agapanthus flowers around the course, weed removal from paths, tidy up of 6th tranquility garden.

We were lucky enough to only have very light showers during the morning which did not prevent us from working.

Morning tea of fresh sandwiches was very much appreciated after a hard mornings work.

Senior Pennants 2024

Gosford played Toukley at Breakers Golf Club today in our first game of the year. The course was good but a few temporary greens made putting a lottery on those holes and we didn’t fair well. That’s Golf.

 

Toukley fielded a very strong team and in A grade it was close in a few matches but in the end we went down 5/1.

 

B grade looked good for a long time but we finished 2/2 and went down in a play off on the 2^nd hole.

 

C grade played very well and had a big win 3/1.

 

Next week we travel to Shelly Beach and play Breakers. A grade will have a bye.

Today was our first day back at F-Troop after all of the Public Holidays getting in the way. We did not know which job to do first as all the work had piled up in our absence.

We still had volunteers on holidays, babysitting etc so we had a good number attending today.

On hand we had Sam Knox, Duncan Dyer, Kevin O'Brien, Trevor Harrison, Rob Benson, Don Nicholls, Peter Martin, Bev Way, Lyn Bates and Jan Martin.

Projects worked on today was tidy up of the car park, cleaning up at the gutters at back of the clubhouse, undercutting trees, cut back  of tree on the 7th that was struck by lightning, loose timber and rubbish removal around the course, removal of rubbish at the bins behind the practice nets, tidy up of gardens and paths at the 2nd tee, planting in of donated grasses at the 18th tee grass gardens, tidy up of BBQ garden, cleaning up paths from the 17th to 18th, removal of overgrown Alavera plants at the Ladies 3rd tee garden, tidy up of garden at the 2nd green garden, more work done at tidying the Streletzia garden at the 15th tee, tidy up of garden at the 14th bush toilets.

We appreciated morning tea of fresh sandwiches after a hard mornings work.

The weather today was kind to us as the heat was controlled by a nice breeze that made it bearable on the course. Our playing partner today was Steve Turner accompanied by Geraldine Turner who was our cheer squad and bunker raker. They were great company and Steve enjoyed some good pars. I finished with the same ball I started with after negotiating the water safely however found some unfortunate bunkers and 3 putts.

The Golf Event of the day was a Medley Single Stableford.

We had 63 starters with 4 visitors from NTPGC, Overseas and Cromer.

Against the normal trend the girls won the first three places in the Medley Stableford Event.

The Late Warren Flanagan - Celebration of Life arrangements

 Warren’s family will be holding a private funeral however there will be a public celebration of Warren’s life to be held at the Gosford Golf Club on Tuesday 23rd January 2024 at 2 pm.
