We had a great day today for golf and celebrate our Open Day for 2023.

F-Troop Morning Tea - Duncan Dyer, Bev Way, Ron Gowing, Peter Martin, Kevin O’Brien (Rob Benson, John Hollebon, Sam Knox, Jan Martin)

Light showers did not prevent the F-Troopers from working today.

We had 9 volunteers who worked right through the morning to get our projects done.

On hand was Sam Knox, Duncan Dyer, Kevin O’Brien, Rob Benson, Peter Martin, John Hollebon, Ron Gowing, Bev Way, Jan Martin.

Projects worked on were tree maintenance, hedge and garden maintenance, loose timber and rubbish pick up around the course, cleaning the paths under the clubhouse and down to the 1st and 10th tees, clean up of the BBQ garden, cleaning of the bush toilets and a start made on dead heading the agapanthus.

We were all pretty wet by morning tea time and managed to set up a dry area to enjoy our morning tea of fresh sandwiches.

Gosford Juniors Pennants Results - Saturday 28th January 2023

It was a great day for the Gosford Team winning 5 - 1 against Wyong in the first Round of the Junior Pennants.

Wyong were down two players, so Harlan and Blayne enjoyed a nine hole practice Round.

Our Team Captain Sid brought his usual energy and team spirit.

He went down to a red hot Ryan Hooke playing number one. 

Connor played well all day, overcoming his opponent 4 and 3.

Kiedis, still in good form, finished with a solid 3 and 2 victory.

Alisha spent 17 holes in a very tight fight. Three great up and downs. Keeping pressure on her opponent. she then finished the hole out from off from the green winning 2 and 1.

It was a wonderful day for our players.

We had eleven volunteers today which was a big help towards getting our projects done.

Morning tea of fresh sandwiches were much appreciated after a hard mornings work.

Senior Pennants Results Sunday 22nd January 2022

 

Palm tree in the middle of a bunker at the 9th at Toukley.

It was raining heavily as we drove up to Toukley to play our pennants match against the men from the mountain but by the time the first group hit off the rain had eased and conditions were good for the whole day.

Mangrove Mountain have always produced strong teams in B Grade and C Grade and this year they added a very competitive team in A Grade with a couple of scratch markers. 

We played well and Gosford had strong wins in all 3 grades. A Grade won 4/2, B Grade 3 1/2 to 1/2, and C Grade 3/1.

Steve Thompson had a tough day and as you can see from his lie in a bunker he was not having much luck.

Next week we have a bye so we look forward to our next match at Shelly Beach against Magenta in two weeks.

Encourage Shield Results - Tuesday 17th January 2023

 How good are our Juniors.

Again another tough day at Horizons. It was hot and they played off the white tees so the course was long.

We were playing for third position in the State against some good opposition and our guys were impressive fighting hard on each hole. 

Keidis and Blayne both had strong wins but we went down 4/2 in a close battle.

Young Sid was our Captain and gathered the team at the end of the day to thank his team, Richard and Greg Brien and the parents for their effort and support. A very polished speech from a future club captain.

A warm sticky morning tested us out today - early starts are always a good idea at this time of the year.

We had nine volunteers this morning to help with our projects.

On hand were Sam Knox, Duncan Dyer, Trevor Harrison, Kevin O’Brien, Don Nicholls, Peter Martin, Bev Way, Jan Martin and we welcomed a new member today - Dave Scifleet.

Projects worked on today were tree maintenance, repair of the broken fence at the 18th garden, watering of gardens at the 18th and camellia way, tidy up of the 6th native garden, watering and weeding of the BBQ Garden, watering the new plants at the 9th ladies tee and bike garden, a start made of the weeding of the garden at the ladies 3rd tee.

We really appreciated our morning tea of fresh sandwiches after a very hot morning of work.

Our Juniors played in the State semi final of the Encourage Shield today at Horizons Golf club.

They went down to a very good team from Cromer Golf Club but did our club proud.

Harlan had a great day winning 3 and 2. All our team played very well and are improving with every game. There were some really good swings out there today and some fantastic shots.

Well done to Alisha, Keidis, Blayne, Connor, Sid and Harlan.

Tomorrow we will play in the play off for 3rd place.

Gosford started its 2023 Sterland Shield defence with its first Pennant match against Everglades at Magenta Shore Golf club today. It was hot and the wind was blowing and most of us were on the course for in excess of 5 hours. Luckily though this year I had introduced a pre season fitness program and our team of athletes  handled the difficult conditions very well.

 

A grade won 5 to 1, B grade 3 to 1 and C grade finished off a great day with a win 3 ½ to ½

We had a beautiful weather day for golf today with a little breeze from time to time to cool us down.

Our playing partners were Ray and Carolyn Buttsworth who were great company. We enjoyed the day with the boys winning the Keno ticket by defeating the girls on the 13th hole after Ray sank a putt (varying between 70 feet and 20 feet depending on the number of reports that came in) and the girls put up the white flag. My highlight was finishing with the same ball I started with + was an improved player from last week.

We had a huge day at F-Troop today. After an enforced break away from the course there was plenty of work to catch up on including the fallen bark and leaves at the back entrance, car parks, around the clubhouse and paths to the 1st and 10th tees.

We did appreciate Bruce Binns who donated his time to help out with bark and leaves that were littered everywhere. Thank you Bruce. Your work was most appreciated as we only had one small leaf blower available so your help was invaluable.

We had 10 volunteers today so we had a very busy morning.

On hand were Duncan Dyer, Sam Knox, Kevin O’Brien, Trevor Harrison, Rob Benson, Don Nicholls, Peter Martin, John Hollebon, Bruce Binns and Jan Martin.

Projects worked on today were tree maintenance, firewood preparation, Loose Timber and rubbish pick up around the course, hedge maintenance, gardens tidied at the 1st and 10th tees and the BBQ Garden, clean up of the BBQ area, clean up of the paths around the clubhouse, 1st and 10th tees, wedding garden and practice nets, clean up of leaves and rubbish at the back of the clubhouse and parking area, repair of the water feature at the BBQ area, planting in of new plant at the Ladies 9th tee.

We were ready for morning tea of fresh sandwiches after a hard mornings work.

We had a beautiful sunshine golf day today and we enjoyed the company of Bruce and Leeanne Binns.

Bruce was our champion today coming in 3rd place and Leeanne gave us a great highlight with a birdie on the 8th. My highlight was outdriving the boys at the 18th. The boys won the Keno ticket at the 16th bragging all the way.

We enjoyed a lovely day on the Golf Course today welcoming in the New Year. It was threatening some showers but we did only have cloud cover and some nice breeze that cooled down the course to be comfortable. Our playing partners were Col and Lauren Matterson who both had great games gave us some good highlights. Peter had a good game and won the day with a well earned 40 points. I saved my highlights for the 18th hole where (after negotiating my way through the palm trees on the left of the fairway) I placed a nice pitching wedge shot over the sand bunker and over the pin and then sank a long putt for a good 7/2. Happy days!

SOME GOOD NEWS ON THE HEALTH FRONT OF OUR MEMBERS:

ROBIN INCOLL:

Robin has shown signs of recovery from her stint in ICU at Gosford Hospital. News from her son Duncan tells us that her health has improved although she is far from “out of the woods”. Robin is in ward G, room 418 and she is accepting visitors ( only 2 visitors at any given time) so please co-ordinate your visits so Robin is not overloaded. This is such great news and we wish Robin a good recovery albeit over a period of time.

JOYCE BOSLEY:

I understand that Joyce has had a stint in hospital with Covid but is now back at home. Dick is also positive but is showing no symptoms. 

There have been a lot of our members having Covid infections and are recovering at home . We wish them a quick recovery and hope to see everyone back at golf soon.
