F-Troop - Monday 30th April 2012

We had a very reduced team of volunteers today so we had to spread ourselves thin between maintenance projects on the course.  There was a Social Shotgun 8.30 am start that restricted our use of the course.

We had Duncan Dyer, Martin Gallagher, Rob Benson, Geoff Bridge, Bruce White, Peter Martin, Di Beechey, Anne Burgess and Jan Martin on duty.

Duncan, Martin, Geoff and Bruce were on tree duty - removing a large dead tree that was between the 11th & 12th fairways.  This tree was cut down and removed from the fairway with great efficiency by the F-Troopers working around the golfers hitting off the 12th and coming down the 11th.

Peter & Rob were on pick up duty - collecting rubbish and loose timber from around the course filling the ute up five times.

Di Beechey and Anne Burgess did a clean up of the driveway at the back of the club and the BBQ area.

Anne worked on her gardens at the BBQ area and at the 18th before helping Di & I at the 2nd green garden..

Di & I did some good maintenance jobs around the course - weed control at the 6th, 4th & the wedding garden area; planted out some more "yesterday, today & tomorrow plants at the garden at the 6th. These plants were donated to us by Bert Jordon; chipped and sprayed the Olive Trees at the 15th; Cut off a dead flower from the pony tail palm at the 15th; prepared a garden area at the 2nd green where we will be planting out some more succulent plants; tidied the 3rd ladies tee; watered the camellias & orchids at the 14th; checked the bush toilets; checked the position at the 2nd green where we intend to secure the Elk Horn Fern that was donated to us by Peter & Sandy Laybutt, replaced the stolen rope that guarded the hedge plants at the front steps of the clubhouse; removed the lower branches and unwanted shoots from the shrubs at the 2nd tee.

It was a good morning's work for nine volunteers and we appreciated morning tea of fruit pastries. Thank you Chef John!

YES!  WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE!.

Golf - Wednesday 25th April 2012 - Anzac Day

We had  a good day for golf on this Anzac Day Public Holiday - the weather stayed fine - if a little chilly & windy at times.  The Autumn weather is creeping in and the days are getting shorter.  Unfortunately the golf start time was running late which caused a back log of players who ran out of daylight hours to finish their matches. The golf matches stretched out to 5 hours or more which causes problems when there are a lot of players on the course.

My playing partners today were Rhonda Robertson, Fay Bailey & Eun Lee who were great company & we did have a good day with Eun Lee playing his first competition match and scoring a great 40 points.   Another highlight was Rhonda winning the nearest the pin at the 8th with a fantastic drive.

The Golf Event of the day was a Men's & Women's Single Stableford - Anzac Day.

We had 212 starters with 2 visitors from Everglades.

Golf - Tuesday 24th April 2012

Another lucky day for the Ladies Golf.  The rain held off for the most of the match with only the later players getting caught with some light showers.  Considering yesterday was a wet day the course was in remarkably good condition.  There were some puddles here and there but overall the course was very good.  It is raining, with thunder and some high winds as I write this so we had a good little window this morning which we all appreciated.

The Golf Event of the day was  Ladies Single Par (Draw for Partners).

We had 54 starters.

RESULTS:

DIVISION 1 - 0 TO 22:

WINNER:  Anne Burke - Plus 1 on a countback

RUNNER UP:  Rhonda Robertson - Plus 1

DIVISION 2: 23 TO 32:

WINNER:  Margot McGuinness - Minus 1

RUNNER UP:  Lynn Puiatti - Minus 2

DIVISION 3: 33 TO 45:

WINNER:  Dawn Tromp - Plus 3

RUNNER UP:  Berry Hanley - Plus 1

DIV 2:  Jan Martin (Hooray!)

DIV 3:  Not won

14TH HOLE:

DIV 1:  Kay Adams

DIV 2:  Not won

DIV 3:  Not won

BALLS WENT TO:  Minus 2 on a countback

AWCR LADIES:  73 (Square)

HIGHLIGHTS OF THE DAY as reported to me:  Rosemary Cohen - behind the bunker on the edge, on the downslope, with much whinging about the mud and conditions, hit her gobbler shot into the hole at the 18th for a Plus; Lorraine Bignall had a gobbler at the 4th; Marrianne Lanham had a gobbler at the 3rd; Rhonda Robertson sank a great long putt at the 17th; Anne Burke concentrated well for her good score of Plus 1; Di Beechey on the 6th hole hit her shot up into a very spindly branch of a tree where it became trapped, After many tries by her playing partners they were unable to dislodge the ball. Lyn Bates threw her driver up the tree to try to dislodge the ball and it got stuck up there as well.  The group called in the help of Maggie Minjoy in her cart & with the aid of the water rescue tool managed to get the driver and the ball out of the tree.  Di went on to wipe the hole in spite of all the help she got from her friends;  Glennis English was all square at the 17th; Leonie Casey had a very balanced game, Robyn Johnston had a gobbler at the 7th and a plus at the 8th; Dawn Tromp chipped in on the 2nd for 5; Felicity Mead had a gobbler on the 5th; my highlight was my drive on the 8th that just slipped past the hole (my best effort ever for a hole in one) & then getting the birdie putt.

Pennants Results - Monday 23rd April 2012

LADIES PENNANTS - A GRADE

Gosford A Grade Pennants team won 4/2
Well done girls!

An interesting highlight from Wendy Stapleton who at the 4th hole hit her chip shot to the green out of turn. Her opposition player recalled the shot as she was entitled to do.  Wendy then replayed her shot and chipped into the hole!!!!!!!!!!

LADIES PENNANTS - B GRADE

Gosford B Grade Pennants team won today beating Kooindah Waters 3 1/2 to 2 1/2.
Well done girls!

LADIES PENNANTS - C GRADE:

Gosford C Grade Pennants team won 5/1
Well done girls!

MEN'S SUPER SENIORS PENNANTS.

We have had some exciting results in the Men's Super Seniors Pennants matches today.

Gosford Super Seniors Pennant side had to beat Everglades 7/5 to nil to have any show of overtaking Wyong.
AND YES! WE DID IT!

However! Wyong had to win against Magenta Shores by no more than 4.5/3 but they won 6.5/1.  This means that Wyong will go through to the playoffs.

Not all is lost because there are only 7 Divisional Winners in the playoffs.  To make up 8 teams the best performing team from any of the divisions who finishes 2nd in their division will also go through.
At this stage it is between Gosford, Ryde Parramatta and Castle Hill to see who that team is.  We will not know that until the end of the week.

This week's great results were:
Mark Stimpson won 4/3
Jeff Nash won 5/4
Clyde Cruickshanks won 2/1
Kerry Cubis won 6/5
Jim Forrester won 3/1
Martin Gallagher won 2/1
Col Kelly won 4/2
Ian Witt won 3/2

Well Done Super Seniors.  You have given it your best shot!

F-Troop Monday 23rd April 2012

It was not very good weather for our F-Trooping this morning.  The showers continued all morning which restricted us from getting too involved with the gardens.

We were fortunate to have twelve volunteers which made the major project much easier to achieve.
We had Duncan Dyer, Peter Martin, Geoff Bridge, George Foster, Warren Gray, Richard Casey, Rob Benson, Bruce White, Trevor Harrison, Di Beechey, Anne Burgess and Jan Martin.

The boys had the task of transporting the dismantled shed from Cary Street to the Golf Club security shed which was a mammoth task.   They had the job done before morning tea - no worries at all.

Di Beechey & Anne Burgess cleaned up around the car park and underneath the clubhouse.  As the showers were relentless we decided a major garden project would be difficult so we spent the morning doing an in depth inspection of all the course gardens, making notes of work to be done and potential improvements around the course so that we can get our projects in order of priority.  We managed to get some small areas tidied up before morning tea.

Morning Tea was appreciated as we were all cold and damp. Chef John prepared us a lovely fruit & nut slice that we all enjoyed.  Thanks Chef John!

Bert Jordon dropped off some plants for our gardens - "Yesterday, today & tomorrow" which will enhance our gardens on the 6th.  Thank you Bert!   I noticed today that we have got another couple of orchids missing (as in stolen) from the garden on the 18th which is a real shame because they were growing beautifully there. Bert originally donated those orchids too us and it is so disappointing to see that some people have very little respect for the efforts that some members put in to make our course beautiful.

Today the Ladies A Grade Pennants matches were played at Gosford in the rain.  (Photo attached of all the umbrellas sitting up like mushrooms at the 1st tee.  My thanks to Christine Drakeford for that photo.

Other photo attached is my grand daughter Emily into the shoe drawer that she finds very attractive.
