We were very fortunate to get some of our hardworking F-Troopers to report on such a hot day which went into the 30 + degrees. Everyone that I saw worked very hard and achieved many projects set for today.
I saw Arthur Verlander, Des Wilson, Martin Gallagher, Peter Martin, Garry Trigg, Bruce White, Warren Gray, Duncan Dyer, Yvonne Wilson & Anne Burgess.
We started the day with our first project being a timber pickup at the fenceline from the practice nets to the main side gates in racecourse roads - covering both sides of the fence along that part of Racecourse Road.
This was a collective effort by all the troopers present at that time. After the timber & rubbish pickup Garry Trigg cleared the area with the roughcutter which made the area nice and tidy which is great to see as it is one of the main windows looking into the course from Racecourse Road and creates a much better image when kept tidy.
After that the troopers split into team for various projects.
Garry Trigg took care of some roughcutting around the course.
Duncan and Des made a good effort to remove a tree stump from the back garden at the 6th & then went on to complete the removal of the seed pods from the palms at the back of the 14th- what they could reach anyway.
Arthur Verlander continued to repair holes in the fenceline along Racecourse Rd until he ran out of material & then poisoned abnoxious weeds around the course. Then Arthur assisted us with the replanting of the trees at the 7th.
Warren Gray & Bruce White trimmed hedges and shrubs at the 2nd and the 7th & raked untidy paths.
Martin Gallagher & Peter Martin were my main workers in another "save the trees" project by digging & replacing the soil, replanting two of the Limelights on the 7th including a good watering for the trees there.
We did the same for the Daintree Pine at the 15th which should give them a better start to life as they have been struggling in poor soil. We gave the tree ferns and birdnest ferns at the 2nd a good water, as with the Tibouchinas & crepe myrtles at the left hand side of the 2nd. Martin poisoned the grass edges around the trees to prevent grasses & weeds from taking over.
Yvonne Wilson watered & tidied the gardens at the front of the Clubhouse & with help from Des went on to work at the 15th & watered the new garden at the 14th Bush Toilets that they had put in place last week.
The red lilies planted there were donated by Doon Jansen. They are complimented by some red begonias.
Anne Burgess was watering her plants at the 18th & the BBQ area looked really tidy and well looked after so someone has been there recently keeping it in pristine condition. Thanks Anne, Di and Judy.
With Peter's help I went on to water all the gardens at the 6th tee including the native garden, the new garden at the 6th tee and the garden at the back of the 5th green, tidied and watered the Ladies Garden at the 13th.
It has made such an enormous difference to be able to access the water from the fairway system & be able to get hoses to the gardens. It will make a big difference to the gardens around the course this summer. While I was watering, Peter attached some more artificial grass to the steps leading up to the 17th green to make the steps safer.
It was a huge workload to get through on such a hot day - so many thanks to the troopers for today's effort.
Many thanks to our unseen troopers who also work outside of the Monday morning routine work when they can find some time. Some of those I know work regularly are Mary Bromwich, Anne Burgess, Di Beechey, Judy Hughes, Richard & Leonie Casey, Clyde & Lyn Cruickshanks, Rosalie Dyer & June Bowen - just to mention a few. I am sure I have missed mentioning some. Even though unsighted, the evidence is there that work has been done - so many thanks to our loyal Adopt-A-Garden helpers who do such a good job .
