The Late Ron Beechey - Saturday 29th April 2017

It is with huge sadness and shock that I report the passing of a special friend, Ron Beechey, who is well known to all of our golfers, staff, Board Members and associates of the Gosford Golf Club. Ron along with Di are regulars at the club and huge club supporters.

Ron passed away suddenly this afternoon after suffering a massive heart attack.

Our deepest sympathy and thoughts are with Di and her family at this devastating time.

I will post funeral details as soon as they come to hand.

It was good to see a good crowd at the Gosford Golf Club tonight for the end-of-month barrel draw, the meat raffles and the member's draw.

If all member's came at least once a month to support our Member's Night it would be a win/win for everyone!

Our member's draw tonight of nearly $3,000 was drawn by a seven day member who was not present at the club at the time of the draw.

The Mountain parrots were loving the camellias that are out in full flower
(check right hand top of the photo for the green/yellow parrot)

With special memories today of all our soldiers who have fought for our country - ANZAC Day.

Our playing partners were Mark Stimpson and Alice Diamond and we did have some great highlights - the best of which was Alice coming in with a brilliant 40 points, 8 three pointers and an added bonus we thrashed the boys for the Keno Ticket.

Another highlight for all of us was finishing golf before the wet weather set in - that was a definite bonus.

We had another nice day for working on our F-Troop projects today.

On hand we had Duncan Dyer, Trevor Harrison, Rob Benson, Geoff Bridge, Steve Hogg, Terry Coyle, Don Nicholls, John Hollebon, Peter Martin, Di Beechey, Anne Burgess & Jan Martin.

We were busy all day working on various jobs including delivering two loads of firewood, mulching the gardens outside the clubhouse, tidying gardens and watering where necessary, maintained some of the hedges, cleaned up along the out of bounds fence at the 18th, rubbish and loose timber pick up all around the course,  weeded, trimmed and sprayed the hedge at the 4th tee, cleaned the bush toilets & watered the gardens there, watered the pots at the 6th tee, sprayed the hibiscus plants at the back of the 5th green, sprayed the mandevilla plants at the 6th tee and the 9th ladies tee garden, added a support for the white mandevilla at the 6th tee, trimmed some of the yesterday, today and tomorrow shrubs on the 6th tee, watered the bike garden, watered the 9th ladies tee garden, sprayed the mandevillas in the wedding gazebo and watered the pots there, swept out the wedding gazebo.

Morning tea was very welcome after a hard mornings work and gave the boys some energy for their second delivery of timber.

YES! WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE!

I have been asked the question of whether or not I will be continuing with the blog now that the new reporting system is in place and results can be easily looked up on the website.

I am very impressed with the new system now that it is up and running and I agree that all the results are there in full detail and are easy to access when you know how.

My answer is I will continue with the blog for as long as I have interested readers as I feel I can add a personal touch, not to mention photos and highlights of the day as well as a simplified report on the results.   I can also include members information as required. So send me in your golfing photos and highlights as I am happy to publish them.

So the short answer is ..... yes I will continue while I have sufficient interest from members.

How good was it today to be able to get out on the Village Green and with carts as well.  The Blue sky and sunshine continued all day which will help to dry out the course which is gradually recovering from the heavy rainfall.  The name of the game today was to stay on the fairway where there was no trouble - the rough was muddy in patches and not a good place to be.

Our playing partners today were Ray and Carolyn Buttsworth who were great company.  We did have some highlights - the best one of which was Ray's 4 pointer on the 6th.

F-Troop Monday 10th April 2017

F-Troop Morning Tea - John Hollebon, Peter Martin, Trevor Harrison,
Duncan Dyer, Don Nicholls, Kevin O'Brien, Steve Hogg, Geoff Bridge
(Rob Benson and Jan Martin)

New paving work at the Wedding Garden

More weeding done at the 6th Native Garden

The standard Rose at the putting green
suffered a near death experience in the wild winds
saved by our F-Troopers

We had a very chilly start to our morning with some cold winds keeping our jumpers on.

On hand we had Trevor Harrison, Duncan Dyer, Kevin O'Brien, John Hollebon, Geoff Bridge, Steve Hogg, Rob Benson, Peter Martin, Don Nicholls and Jan Martin

The course was still very wet so our projects today were centred around the clubhouse.  Projects done were replacing some lattice work at the back of the clubhouse, laying pavers in the Wedding Garden, saving the standard white iceburg rose at the putting green where the high winds had broken the rose supports, rubbish and loose timber pick up around the course, trimming the hedges around the course, cleaning of the bush toilets, tidy up of the gardens at the 14th green space and plantingin two donated plants, tidy up of the 6th tranquility garden, more weeding done at at 6th Native garden.

Morning tea was very welcome where we enjoyed savoury breads, easter buns and iced buns. Thank you Barto!

After morning tea the boys did our first delivery of firewood while we added some extra supports to the iceburg rose and dead headed the roses to take some weight off the bushes.

YES! WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE!

EASTER CHILDREN'S DISCO was a huge success with 115 children attending with their families staying for dinner and the raffles.

Some were not as impressed with the Easter Bunny as others

Members Lounge full

The quiet zone in the Magnolia Room

Some good moves on the dance floor

Our young guests had a wonderful time and enjoyed the music, face painting, balloons, dinner pack, gift pack of crayons and colour books and thankfully all the parents and grandparents survived the night which was well organised by Bron Carroll.

Golf - Tuesday 4th April 2017

The wet weather continues and today the course is closed so there is no Ladies Competition.

The course was very wet yesterday so no doubt the overnight rain has contributed to the closure.

Let us hope we get enough sunshine today the let the course drain away enough for tomorrow's competition.

We had a rain sodden track today with a few social golfers out.
The scheduled Ladies Pennant Matches were postponed due to
the condition of the course.

Tranquility Garden at the 6th tidied up

Tranquility garden at the 6th weeded, raked and swept

Given it was a showery day we were lucky to have enough volunteers to get some projects done at the front of the clubhouse which meant we did not have to take heavy machinery out onto the course.
The course was very wet after overnight rain and continuing showers.

On hand were Kevin O'Brien, Trevor Harrison, Duncan Dyer, Geoff Bridge, Rob Benson, Terry Coyle, Garry Trigg, John Hollebon, Don Nicholls, Peter Martin, Di Beechey, Anne Burgess and Jan Martin.

Projects worked on today were further trimming of the hedges in front of the clubhouse, trimming and tidy up of the front street garden, tidy up of the BBQ area and club surrounds, cleaning of the 14th bush toilets, clean up of the drain blockage at the back of the 14th tee, tidy up of the gardens in the green space at the 14th, intensive weeding, raking and sweeping of the Tranquility Garden at the 6th Tee.

Morning Tea was welcomed after a big effort today.  Thank you to Barto for the supply of our morning tea selection.

YES! WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE!
