Golf - Tuesday 31st January 2017

A forecast of 39 degrees put off most of our lady golfers including me.  The temperature at Gosford now is 39 degrees so it would be exceeding that out on the course.

We did have a few bravehearts who sensibly teed off very early in the morning.

The Golf Event of the day was a Ladies Single Stableford - Over the Field.

We had 14 starters.

WINNER: Anne Burgess - 40 points

RUNNER UP: Leonie Casey - 35 points

Super Senior Pennants Results - Gosford Vs Shelly Beach - Monday 30th January 2017

Super Seniors Pennant Team 2

Gosford Vs Shelly Beach at Wyong - Monday 30th January 2017

RESULTS: Shelly Beach defeated Gosford 7/1

Notes about the match: Today's matches were more a matter of survival from the heat than playing an opponent. It was 39.7 degrees on the 11th tee at Wyong in the afternoon. Some stirling performances were witnessed, least of all Bert Brink, our secret weapon, putting the President of SB, Alan Arkin, to the sword. The two Steve's came so close to winning as did Lindsay Morgan but to no avail. Overall the boys played their hearts out and proved to be great ambassadors for our club.

Next week we travel to Belmont G.C. to take on the 2015 finalists Wyong no.1 team.

I would like all to know that one of the Wyong team, Jack Parker, a former Australian Representative player is in Wyong Hospital after suffering multiple serious heart attacks. All those that know Jack might like to give him a ring after a few days. We wish him all the best.

Martin Gallagher (Manager)

Date of next match: Monday 6th February 2017

Golf Course: Belmont G.C.

Opponent: Wyong no 1

Tee time: 9.00am

RESULTS:

Magenta Shores defeated Gosford 5/3

Congratulations to David Hemming, Gary Sammons and Tim Lafferty for winning their respective matches on one of the toughest golf courses in NSW.

There is no doubt that playing Magenta Shores on their own course is a big ask. Let's hope next week we prevail against Toukley on Gosford Golf Couse

Paul Edwards (Manager)

Date of next match: 6th February 2017

Golf Course: Gosford

Opponent: Toukley

Tee Time: 10.30

CHANGES TO THE DSR

As from 1 February 2017 Golf Australia has advised all golf clubs that the DSR for all courses is to be set at a lowest of one below the par rating for the course

The par rating for the men is 69 therefore the lowest rating for all competitions is 68.

The same also applies to the ladies DSR.

This does not mean that the DSR cannot be higher depending on the results of the field on any competition day

HIGHLIGHTS OF THE DAY as reported to me: I did not have to go far to get highlights for today having played with the winner who came in with daylight second. Mark Stimpson had an exceptional game scoring two under par over the nine holes. Three Birdies and nothing else under two or three points brought him in with a nice 25 points for the nine holes.  The rest of us disappeared into oblivion after this master effort - however my highlight was not having any wipes and maybe winning a ball.

We had a very successful evening post golf where we enjoyed a carvery dinner, meat raffles, $50 end of month member draw, and a $500 member draw winner.

The highlights for me was winning a meat tray, a lottery ticket from Mark Stimpson and for Mona Maher a $500 Member draw.  Our end of month $50 Member draw was won by Louise Stimpson who is a regular Friday Night supporter. Congratulations Mona and Louise!

Members please remember - you have to be in it to win it - Every Friday Night at the Gosford Golf Club where you can enjoy a nice meal and have a chance at the big Members Draw as well as a selection of meat raffles to still up your pantry.  It is beautiful on the course late afternoon at this time of the year so why not throw in nine holes of social golf and then stay on for dinner and raffles. 🚩🏌🍷🍽

Nine and Dine - coming up - Friday 27th January 2017

This is a very popular event starting at 4.30 pm shotgun start followed by dinner at the club. Meat Raffles are on as well as the Members Draw and end of month $50 draw.  You have to be in the clubhouse at the time of the draw to win.  If the big draw of $3,100 is not won then a further draw will be done for $500 and if that is not won then ..... two draws of $250 will be done until somebody wins - so there are a lot of reasons to take part in this event.  See you at the club this FridayπŸ˜ƒ

In the event of rain and the golf is cancelled then a carvery will be available for dinner - so come along anyway and give yourself a chance at winning the cash!

After having a couple of weeks break the F-Troopers were back in force this morning to catch up with all of our projects.

We had fifteen volunteers which was great as it is still holiday season. On hand were Trevor Harrison, Duncan Dyer, Geoff Bridge, Rob Benson, Steve Hogg, Roy Rogers, Kevin O'Brien, John Hollebon, Nigel Asken, Don Nicholls, Peter Martin, Garry Trigg, Di Beechey, Anne Burgess, and Jan Martin.

There was plenty of loose timber pick up to be done and raking up of tees and all the gardens were parched after all the recent heat waves.

Projects worked on today were maintenance on damaged and dangerous trees; rubbish and loose timber pick up; removal of weed from the 13th dam; maintenance to hedges; tidy up of tees; tidy up at the back of the clubhouse; watering of the gardens at the clubhouse, wedding garden, 1st and 10th tees, camellias at the 18th; securing hazard pegs; watering the hedge at the 4th Tee; 14th bush toilets cleaned and gardens watered; pots at the 6th tranquility garden watered and garden tidied; Bike Garden watered and tidied; garden at the Ladies 9th tee watered; donated Agave planted at the 2nd Green succulent garden; a start made on maintaining the 13th Ladies garden; roses at the putting green dead headed.

YES! WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE!

Blue skies and sunshine was a good start for our favourite game of golf on the village green. Our playing partners today were Duncan and Rosalie Dyer and it seemed that we had the course to ourselves playing our 18 holes with no one in front of us and no one behind all day (thus no photo as we did not have a photographer on hand) finishing our 18 holes in just 4 hours. We had a very pleasant day albeit a little warm at times with some good highlights along the way.

We had 55 starters.

HIGHLIGHTS OF THE DAY as reported to me: we had a lot of good scores come in today so highlights were out there. Those I know of are birdies by Kevin O'Brien - 40 points, David Hopkins an excellent 43 points off a handicap of 7,  Gail Williams had a sensational day - best score ever - 46 points off a handicap of 18;  Clyde Cruickshanks had a good day with 42 points; we ended up squaring the keno ticket with the boys and my highlight was a gobbler 4/4 on the 7th.
