We had twelve F-Troopers working hard today on many tasks around the course. We had Martin Gallagher, Duncan Dyer, Des Wilson, Garry Trigg, Geoff Bridge, George Foster, Warren Gray, Peter Martin, Doug Incoll, Bruce White, Anne Burgess & myself.
Garry Trigg did a long shift on the rough cutter. Duncan Dyer, Geoff Bridge, Martin Gallagher, Des Wilson, George Foster and Doug Incoll worked on tree removals at the 17th fairway & built a new ramp at the 17th for push cart access to the back tees at the 17th.
The purpose of the ramp is to encourage players to use the path provided to reach the 17th tee and not to go across the grassed area in front of the right bunker of the 16th green. The access area between the two trees to the back tees will be closed off. Hand pushed buggies can be taken through the existing road & along the path to the left to the ramp provided where the buggies may be parked at the side of the tee while hitting off the back tees. Then buggies should be brought back through the same ramp access to the existing path. Motorised carts must be left on the existing road and will not have any access to the back tees. Members are requested NOT to have their push carts or motorised carts on the 17th tee off area so that the grassed areas can be preserved.
Warren Gray, Bruce White & Peter Martin did some hard yards in removing some stumps in the garden at the first tee. The root systems were horrendous & needed to be removed so that new plants will have a chance of survival. Eventually we needed Geoff Bridge to bring in the tractor to remove the largest of the root systems. The soil in this garden will need to be rejuvenated before any new planting can occur. The good news is that the tree roots are out & the watering system is in some sort of working order.
While the F-Troopers worked on their tasks I raked & picked up loose timber at the back of the 1st tee, along the path of the 1st tee, around the putting green & the wedding garden area, dead headed & sprayed the roses & replenished the water in the bird bath.
Peter repaired one of the lockers in the associates room & with assistance from Warren Gray repaired the practice nets. Warren cleaned up some loose timber from around the course & cleaned out my bins at the back of the practice nets.
Anne Burgess worked on the Kangaroo Paw garden at the BBQ area & trimmed the bougainvilleas at the back of the 10th green & did some trimming & weeding in the wedding garden.
Martin Gallagher watered the camellias along Camellia Way & poisoned some nuisance weeds around the course.
Chef John excelled himself again with providing us with fresh scones, Jam & Cream for our morning tea. Thanks John!
Members may have noticed that our practice net areas are kept nice and tidy because our newly re-joined Member Clyde Rankin, who cannot join F-Troop, sweeps up the area every time he comes over to practice. Now that is something that impresses me. It saves our F-Troopers a lot of time & it is great to have that much used area kept tidy. If only more members made just that little bit of effort each time they visit for a practice .....! - eg today I picked up multiple drink bottles, pie cases, empty ball boxes, paper all from the putting green area - just left lying around with a garbage bin just metres away. (Most likely left there by the same people that complain about the state of the course).
