Garden at the Men’s 15th Tee weeded, including removing of blueberry bush and rogue palm trees and ready for planting recycled bromeliads.

F-Trooper Rob Benson’s Ute piled high with loose timber and rubbish from the course

Agave plants from the 2nd green garden - advertised on marktet Place and they were gone two hours later.

Another cold start to the morning but that did not deter us.

On hand we had Sam Knox, Duncan Dyer, Trevor Harrison, Kevin O’Brien, Rob Benson, Don Nicholls, Peter Martin, Dave Medcalf, Leeanne Binns, Laurelle Freeman, Carolyn Buttsworth, Jan Martin.

Projects worked on today were loose Timber and rubbish pick up around the course, tree maintenance, tidy up of wood yard, repair of yellow garden cart, clean up at the 17th to 18th path where the cockies have been trimming the trees at will and leaving a mess, planting in of two new frangipani trees at the back of the practice nets garden, weeding at the 4th tee gardens, weeding of the large garden at the Men’s 15th Tee including removal of invasive blueberry and rogue pine trees, a start made of the planting in of the recycled bromeliads from the 2nd green garden, transfer of Agave plants cut from the second green garden to the front of the clubhouse, delivery of firewood, dead heading the large streletzia at the front of clubhouse gardens.

After a very busy morning we all appreciated our morning tea of fresh sandwiches and thankfully some sunshine.

We advertised the Agave plants for free on Marketplace at morning tea and they were gone bar two of them two hours later. I now have orders for 10 more large agave plants which will allow us to thin out our plants that are getting too big.

A reminder to members - we still have a lot of bromeliads left over so take what you want from the 15th garden.

What tree down on the 1st? F-Troop’s tree gang made short work of that problem.

Garden at the 2nd Green - plants that could be recycled have been removed so that the garden area can be cleared for drainage pipes from the 2nd green to the dam.

Bromeliads from the second green garden have been placed loosely in the shady garden at the Men’s 15th tee. We have got more plants than we need so Members can feel free to take as many plants as you like so they can all be recycled.

Agave plants have been cut and ready for removal. Any that can’t be recycled will be destroyed so take as many plants as you like. They range from very small to large sizes.

Bird family encouraging our gardeners this morning when they weeded the Men’s 3rd tee garden.

Another chilly early morning start but that did not deter our Troopers.

On hand we had Sam Knox, Duncan Dyer, Trevor Harrison, Kevin O’Brien, Rob Benson, Mick Grant, John Hollebon, Peter Martin, David Medcalf, Leeanne Binns, Carolyn Buttsworth and Jan Martin.

The large tree that fell over the weekend at the 1st tee was first priority for our tree gang. 5 trailer loads of rubbish was removed from the site. Fortunately there was no damage done to the retaining wall. Further work was done on the removal of fallen tree at the back of the 4th green.

Second priority was picking up of loose timber around the course. Rob Benson collected three Ute loads and he only got as far as the 5th in 3 hours.

Other projects worked on were firewood delivery, hedge maintenance, removal of plants from the 2nd green garden, relocation of plants from that garden that could be recycled, weeding of garden at the Mens 3rd tee, watering of garden at the Ladies 2nd tee, blowing of both car parks and back of clubhouse and tidy up of keg room in the clubhouse.

Morning tea was much appreciated after a hard mornings work by all. It was nice to have some warm sunshine by then.

We had a beautiful day on the Golf Course today. The conditions are much improved with not a lot of wet areas around and thankfully some run re-emerging on the fairways plus the greens are much faster.

Our playing partners today were Grant and Kerry Williams who were, as usual, great company. I have not been out on the course for six weeks or so because of the wet conditions and I was happy to see the course drying out so that it is now playable. Our team came in 3rd place which impressed us. My bragging points today (after not playing for many weeks) was finishing with the same ball I started with, having a respectable score starting with a 3 and a must mention chip in shot into the hole at the 11th for a 5/4.

There was a lot of loose timber around the course brought down but the high winds yesterday including a large tree down on the 1st tee. A big clean up job to be done.

The Late Iris Talbot

 I was sad to read of the passing of Iris Talbot who was one of our past lady members.

Iris was 93 years old. There will be a private funeral.

My last memory of Iris was playing with her in the Team Series in 2009.

On hand we had Sam Knox, Duncan Dyer, Trevor Harrison, Kevin O’Brien, Rob Benson, Mick Grant, Don Nicholls, Peter Martin, John Hollebon, Bev Way, Laurelle Freeman and Jan Martin.

We had lot of Vets playing on the course today and no carts or trikes were allowed on the course so we were restricted to working off course.

Projects worked on today was pick up of loose timber around the course (shanks pony); removal of weeds at the chipping gardens and a start made on mulching the gardens there; clean up and hedge maintenance at the clubhouse gardens and BBQ area, clean up underneath the clubhouse pathways and the BBQ area including maintenance to the water feature; clean up behind the practice nets; mulching of the gardens at the 18th tee and camellia way; assessment of work to be done at the BBQ Area.

My special thanks to Trevor Harrison, Kevin O’Brien ad Bev Way who did the hard yards at moving the mulch to the gardens today.

We found a sunny place to enjoy our morning tea of fresh sandwiches which were appreciated after a hard mornings work.
