Golf - Friday 10th May 2024

Winners today at Hawks Nest - the best we could do was Ball Winners

The remnants of the Gosford Crew celebrating our last night at Hawks Nest with our traditional Chinese dinner.

A new bunker being built at Hawks Nest Golf Course - amazing technology building grass slabs at the top levels of the bunker with concrete at the bottom. The green staff were making their own concrete and cutting grass slabs to lay levels that get locked in with screws at the top of the bunkers. We were in the middle of a competition game so could only spend a short time looking at what they were doing. Very interesting because all of their finished bunkers were water free after 200 mls of rain - with no maintenance to be done while we were playing.

10th green bunker after 200 mls of rain - no water, no wash out
You can see how the layers of grass work

Finished bunkers at the 10th tee

Our final day at Harks Nest was a Single Stableford on the short course (grey tees) - most of us lost 10 shots because of the shortened course.

Our playing partner today was Kevin O’Brien wo had his best game of the week - winning a ball. Watch out Queensland Tourists - Kevie is coming back!
The best we could do today was ball winners - Neville Walker, Kevin O’Brien, Peter Martin and Jan Martin.

We enjoyed a rain free day but the course was soft after the recent rain. We had 10 golfers representing Gosford so we did not do too badly with the trophies.

Meanwhile at Gosford…..

The Golf Event of the day was a Medley Single Stableford.

Preferred lies through the green, All bunkers GUR except the front right bunker on the 18th.

We had 74 starters with 1 visitor from Breakers.
