Golf - Sunday 6th August 2023

 After heavy rain overnight and further showers today there were no carts allowed on the course today which depleted the field.

The Golf Events of the day was a Medley Single Stableford + Top 10 Shootout.

RESULTS:

MEDLEY SINGLE STABLEFORD RESULTS:

We had 19 starters with 2 visitors from The SGA and The Ridge.

OVER THE FIELD:

WINNER: Dean Wallace - 39 points

RUNNER UP: Joshua Read  - 37 points

NEAREST THE PINS:

5TH HOLE: Michael Ostini - 800 cms

5TH HOLE: Belinda Ostini - 800 cms

BALLS WENT TO: 33 points

MENS SR: 69.0

WOMENS SR: 71.0

TOP 10 SHOOTOUT RESULTS:

The First Men’s Top Ten Shoot Out is done and dusted with Glen Cheetham the last man standing. Glen won from Gary Sammons on the 18^th with a par putt.

The day began with the top ten qualifiers hitting of the shortened 10^th. The lowest qualifier invited in this final Grant Wilson, by virtue of Col Matterson withdrawal due to injury, was first to hit of.

The 10^th was not friendly to our top qualifier Allan Keith who, after a chip off with Gary Sammons, was the first man out.

Mick Upton left the pack on the 11^th and Steve Robinson departed one hole later.

Steve Makepeace push his drive way right on the 13^th and even a miraculous recovery could not save him from elimination.

The 14^th hole gave us another chip off with Marcus Hams coming up short,

Grant Wilson by now nickname “Steven Bradbury” bombed a drive up the 15^th which saw him survive another hole as John Jackson said his farewells.

The 16^th saw a four-way chip off that left Eddie Rogers short and then there were three going to the penultimate hole.

Grant hit another monster left of the fairway with Glen and Gary conservative. “Bradbury’s” run came to an end on the 17^th green as he could not match his playing partners.

The last two standing both centred the fairway on the 18^th and then put their seconds within striking distance of the green.

Both pulled up short but it was the long-range chip from Glen that won the day. Gary as always was gracious in defeat.

Unfortunally the wet weather overnight may have stopped some from coming out and support the finalists, but those that did would not have regretted the trip.

A massive thanks to Tom Ballard who did all the organising and Sam Hatfield for looking after the prize monies. Thanks to all the spotters, spectators and last but not least the players.

Let’s make this event even bigger and better next year.
