We had 10 volunteers this morning to work on our projects.

On hand we had Duncan Dyer, John Hollebon, Kevin O’Brien, Les Wielinga, Rob Benson, Peter Martin, Nigel Asken, Sam Knox, Di Beechey and Jan Martin.

Projects worked on today were tree maintenance, rubbish and loose timber pick up around the course, hedge maintenance, mulching of gardens, tidy up of gardens at the 1st tee, removal of weed from the dams, cleaning of the bush toilets, watering greenspace gardens at the 14th, tidy up of the 6th tranquility garden at the 6th, watering pots at the 6th, continuing weeding at the 6th native garden.

By morning tea time the temperature was increasing (31 degrees today) and morning tea was welcome.

Pennants Results - Sunday 28th February 2021

 

A Grade had a bye this week but B grade and C grade travelled to Toukley to play Breakers. The weather was fine for a change and the course was in good condition.

 

It was tight early but B grade finished strongly to win comfortably and remain undefeated. C grade had one big win and the other two teams again finished on the 18^th hole, drawing one and losing the other 1 down. This resulted in a tied match.

 

We have a big match next week against Wyong at Breakers. We remain in contention in all 3 grades and wins next week will really help our cause

We had a busy morning dodging all the Vets players (145 players) and worked well through our projects.

We had 11 volunteers on hand - Duncan Dyer, Kevin O’Brien, Rob Benson, Steve Robinson, Les Wielinga, Don Nicholls, Peter Martin, Nigel Asken, John Hollebon, Di Beechey and Jan Martin.

Windy weather has brought down plenty of loose timber and rubbish around the course and wet weather has got all of the weeds in the gardens thriving.

Projects worked on today was rubbish and loose timber pick up, tree maintenance, hedge maintenance, removal of weed from the 13th dam, firewood delivery, clean up of some tees and surrounds with the new garden blower including the paths at the bush toilets, clean up of the gardens at the 1st and 10th tees, tidy up of the car parks, weeding of the 12th green gardens, cleaning of the bush toilets, tidy up of the 6th tranquility garden, trimming of the shrubs on the 6th native garden, weeding part of the 6th native garden, watering pots at the 6th tee, weed control at the wedding garden and pathways at the front of the clubhouse.

The high humidity had us ready for morning tea that we enjoyed under the shade of the clubhouse.

Pennants Results - Sunday 21st February 2021

Pennants report.

 

Firstly a big thanks to Matt Colbran and Robbie Whyte for playing today. We had a few of our regular players unavailable and they filled in at late notice. I’m sure they both enjoyed the day even though it was a tough day.

 

A grade were looking a real chance early but the last few holes cost us a few matches and we went down 6 to 1. Mark Hiley was exceptional again. Mark has been winning his matches comfortably and I asked him to play Number 1 today. He took up the challenge and beat Shelley Beaches gun on the last hole.

 

B grade managed a draw with a clutch putt from Brett Little on the last hole. B grade remain undefeated and on top of the comp.

 

Similar to last week C grade had 2 matches finish on the 18^th only to loose the last hole and they were beaten 2 ½ to ½.

 

Next week B and C grade take on Breakers at Toukley and we are looking for a win. A grade have a bye and will come back firing in two weeks.

This week was busy with a lot of projects needing attention.

Projects worked on today were Firewood preparation, Firewood delivery, Loose Timber and Rubbish pick up around the course, hedge maintenance, clean up underneath the clubhouse, weed removal from the dams, cleaning of the bush toilets including ant treatment, watering the pots at the 6th tee, tidy up of the tranquility garden, a start made on weeding the native garden at the 6th. 

Luckily the showers held off and we could work without getting wet.

Morning tea was appreciated after a good mornings work.

Men’s Pennants results - Sunday 14th February 2021

Toukley are a very strong team and it was a tough day on the course today. Our B grade team was our only winner and they won convincingly 3 Nil. A grade lost 6 to 1 and C grade lost 3 nil but a loss will only make them stronger.

 

Two of our C grade pairs went down the last all square but the OOB on the right of the 18^th fairway proved to be costly.

 

Next week we travel back to Kooindah Waters to take on Shelly Beach and I am predicting a win.

F- Troop - Monday 8th February 2021

 

F- Troop Morning Tea - Peter Martin, Don Nicholls, Kevin O’Brien, Les Weilinga, Nigel Asken, Di Beechey, Steve Robinson, John Hollebon (Jan Martin).

We had a small crew today with several regulars still off for various reasons however we welcomed another new member today - Les Wielinga who is a new member to Gosford Golf Club and is willing to come along and help. Thank you Les.

On hand today were Kevin O’Brien, Nigel Asken, Steve Robinson, Les Wielinga, Don Nicholls, Peter Martin, John Hollebon, Di Beechey and Jan Martin.

Projects worked on today were Loose Timber and rubbish removal around the course, tidy up of rubbish in the car park, cutting up and removal of fallen tree on the 15th, removal of weed from the dams, weeding of the Wedding Garden, hedge maintenance, clean up of the tees, cleaning of the bush toilets, watering the green space gardens at the 14th, tidy up of the 6th tranquility garden, weeding at the 6th tee, watering pots at the 6th tee, bike garden and Ladies 9th tee garden, cleaning of paths at the wedding garden and practice nets.

We  tried out our new garden blower which will make our leaf cleaning jobs easier.

Morning tea was welcome after a hard morning’s work.

HIGHLIGHTS OF THE DAY as reported to me - no golf for me today as I am on the injured list however there were some good scores in. Kevin O’Brien enjoyed a good round and had a good birdie on the 4th reaching the green in 2 shots and played steady golf for his 40 points.

Gosford Men’s Pennants results - Sunday 7th February 2021

 

Gosford travelled to Kooindah Waters this week and took on the might of Magenta. Magenta’s A grade players are all under 2.5 Handicap and their B and C grade are very experienced but Gosford stood up.

 

A Grade won 4 ½ to 2 ½

B Grade won 2 to 1

C Grade won 2 to 1

 

There were some great comebacks by several of our players but a special mention to Mark Hiley who won his match this week 6 and 5 after a great win last week 7 and 6.

 

We also meet our mystery man Edward Hunter. The boys in the Pro shop told me he could play but he plays every morning before sunrise so he has never been seen. I have provided Edwards picture for all to see. I didn’t know much about Edward so I threw him in the deep end and played him at number 1. Edward played great and only went down to Magenta’s top gun on the last hole.

 

Well done boys. Bring on Toukley Oukley next week.
