COVID 19 UPDATE - Monday 30th March 2020
|
|
Sunday, March 29, 2020
Gosford Golf Course Closed until further notice.
We have received notice from the board that the Gosford Golf Course will be closed until further notice due to the Caronavirus Virus restrictions.
We are sorry to say but as of Sunday 29th March the course will close until further notice. As much as we think golf already provides social distancing, the board of directors at Gosford Golf Club agree that a short closure is in the best interest of getting on top of this terrible virus. Given the new restrictions put in place effective midnight tonight, we believe that it's in everyone's best interests if we take a break for a while. It is hoped that if we can all dig deep and stay home for a few weeks, we may be able to be back strolling the fairways just after Easter.
To all our loyal customers we hope you will stay healthy and happy and hope to see you soon!
This closure includes the Course, the Pro Shop and all practice facilities. The Pro Shop will be open on Monday 30th, Tuesday 31st & Wednesday 1st April from 8AM - 1PM should members wish to retrieve their golf clubs and buggies. Please note additional social distancing measures will be in place on a 1 in 1 out basis to the shop or buggy storage areas.
Stay tuned on our weekly emails for updates from the proshop with a view to moving towards online sales. If you are in the market for any new golfing equipment please checkout our online store coming soon, or feel free to email the club and we can see what we can do for you.
We will also be trying to get a few videos out there to our membership for some tips/drills at home to keep you going through any self isolation or quarantine. Please note there will be a small charge for these videos, with all proceeds going towards the running costs of Gosford Golf Club during our downtime.
We will keep you updated as to our re-opening but please check in with us on emails, Facebook, Instagram or email the club on golf@gosfordgolf.com.au if you have any questions regarding our current situation, or if there is anything we can do for your golf.
We hope to welcome you back to a well rested golf course come Easter. Please stay safe and stay at home until we get on top of this terrible pandemic.

Golf - Thursday 26th March 2020
Eddie Rogers on the way home from Turtle Bay (Palmer Course) listening to Robbie Whyte talking through his round.
The boys are safely home and isolating for 14 days and missing their golf.
Meanwhile in Gosford......
The rain overnight and this morning has kept the girls at home.
I take this opportunity to tell you I will be bunkering down to prevent exposure to the corona virus as best I can. The blog will continue even though I will not be playing golf and I will report the results as usual.
F-Troop activities are also on hold so you will notice a difference in the grounds maintenance.
I also take this opportunity to remind the married couples who would normally share a cart (including privately owned) on the golf course will not be able to do that due to the social distancing rules. Club carts will be available to hire for $18.
Happy golfing for those who are going to continue to play.

HIGHLIGHTS OF THE DAY as reported to me: I was not at the club to collect highlights and social spacing may cause problems with me collecting all the golf highlights of the day in the future. I do invite you to message or email to me any of your highlights during your golf games as I am sure there will still be many highlights out there that need bragging about.
I will be happy to put them on and any photos that would be of interest to our golfers.
I understand there is going to be a close down of non-essential services which would include some hotels and clubs. So far we have been able to continue golf at the external part of the club with certain restriction rules with social distancing included. These rules are constantly been updated as the virus needs to be contained as soon as possible. Please check these rules on a daily basis as we need to look out for each other.

Golf - Tuesday 17th March 2020
Alice Collett celebrating her 80th birthday with the Gosford Lady Golfers.
There was no golf competition unfortunately today due to the condition of the course. The Ladies were to have their St. Patrick’s Dice Day which has been postponed to a later date.
However not to be deterred from a social day our ladies enjoyed a lovely afternoon to celebrate our very special Alice Collett’s 80th Birthday. Congratulations Alice! We hope you enjoyed your afternoon with your golfing friends ranging over many happy years.
Your contributions to our golf club have been much appreciated.
F-Troop - Monday 16th March 2020
We had almost a full attendance of volunteers even in the existing showers - however the course conditions would not allow us to take vehicles or carts on the course so that curtailed most of our projects.
On hand were Trevor Harrison, Duncan Dyer, Kevin O’Brien, Rob Benson, Terry Coyle, Peter Martin, Sam Knox, Nick Goff, John Hollebon, Di Beechey and Jan Martin.
Those that could not get out on the course took an early mark. Trevor and Kevin did some work at the wood heap and John and Di worked around the clubhouse.
Well done to the Members that turned up - our F-Troop spirit is alive and well.
YES! WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE!

Men’s Pennants Results - Monday 16th March 2020
This week our Pennants teams travelled to Everglades Country Club to take on Magenta Shores. The course was not in its best condition and the greens were a little bumpy, but the rain stayed away.
C grade had a good win 2 and 1 and special mention to Kook Cho who answered the call when the team was short. Kook partnered his son Flynn and they won their match.
B grade squared their match with Magenta and Mr Potter tells me that he is still undefeated this year. Hopefully someone can knock him off in the coming weeks. Thanks Keith for looking after the Pennants Teams while I was overseas.
A grade was again only one win away from victory. We had a couple of late scratchings and I want to thank Bob Mcteare forwho filled in at late notice and won his match 3 and 2. I was also given a chance to play and for the record Tom (Tom keeps telling me I’m a genuine B grader) squared my match.
Next week we play Toukley at Kooindah and some of our big guns return so we hope to give Toukley a good match.

HIGHLIGHTS OF THE DAY as reported to me: Kevin O’Brien had birdies at the 1st, 8th and 10th (almost an Eagle) and scored 37 points; Lorraine Bignall had a birdie at the 5th and pars at the 6/3/11th; Karen Askins was an improved player winning the ladies event today including 5 x 3 pointers on the back 9; Michael Cheetham had a very steady game for 38 points to win the Men’s singles event; Steve Turner had a birdie at the 7th including winning nearest the pin; my highlights were playing with good players which gave me encouragement to enjoy the day regardless of the rain - sadly I did not finish with the same ball I started with.

F-Troop Morning Tea - Trevor Harrison, Paul Scholberg, Terry Coyle, Don Nicholls, Kevin O’Brien, Ron Gowing, Rob Benson, Duncan Dyer, Matt Carroll (Peter Martin, John Hollebon, Nick Goff, Sam Knox, Di Beechey, Jan Martin)
We had 14 volunteers today which was a great help towards our projects. There were a lot of social players on the course today that we needed to dodge, the 37 degree day tested our stamina.
On hand we had Trevor Harrison, Sam Knox, Duncan Dyer, Terry Coyle, Rob Benson, Kevin O’Brien, Nick Goff, Matt Carroll, Ron Gowing, John Hollebon, Don Nicholls, Peter Martin, Di Beechey and Jan Martin.
Projects worked on today were loose timber and rubbish pick up around the course, Hedge maintenance, Firewood preparation and delivery of our first firewood order for the coming winter (if it ever gets here), cleaning up underneath the clubhouse, 1st and 10th tees and wedding garden and practice nets, tidy up of the garden at the 10th tee and the 18th green garden including path tidy up and repairs to the fence, cleaning of the bush toilets, watering of the 14th green space gardens, watering of the pots at the 6th, bike garden, ladies 9th tee, 9th green and wedding garden, weeding of the tranquility garden on the 6th tee, raking the 7th tee, removal of weeds from the dams.
We all earned our morning tea which was appreciated.
Some good news from last weeks theft - the new hose and fittings that was stolen from the 14th bush toilets was found just off the 17th fairway - and is now back in its rightful place.
More good news today - we were donated a Chain Saw by Lorraine Bignall. Thank you Lorraine! The chain Saw will be put to good use.
YES! WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE!
