The F-Troopers did some hard yards today on two big projects as well as doing some cleaning up after all the wild winds of the weekend. The course had a lot of timber down but there was a social golf day shotgun start that restricted our use of the course. We had two big projects to do which were off the course so we were able to proceed with them.
We had fifteen helpers today which was an enormous help.
Working on the cart shed site we had Peter Martin, Trevor Harrison, Des Wilson, Richard Casey, Mark Stimpson, Mark Sorridimi and Don Nicholls. The boys worked hard there all day and into the late afternoon putting together the scaffolding and made a start on the shed construction which is a mammoth job. The last of the Mohican's finished at quarter to five after a strategic change in construction plans.
Working on the wedding garden paths we had Martin Gallagher, Geoff Bridge, Garry Trigg, Bruce White, Warren Gray, Di Beechey, Anne Burgess and Jan Martin. We moved 3 ton of white gravel to the paths after laying down some carpet for weed matting. This was a huge job and was well done by the troopers.
The garden looks fantastic with just a small amount of red mulch required to finish the job. It is hard to imagine that this area was a big dust bowl not all that many years ago. This area has been developed for zero cost to the club with us relying totally on donations and costs covered by F-Troop sales of firewood.
In addition to all of that Geoff, Warren, Bruce & Garry cut up the large branch that had fallen at the back of the second green. The greenstaff cleaned up & carried away the timber and were busy all day picking up loose timber around the course.
Di Beechey & Anne Burgess were also busy raking and cleaning up at the wedding garden area, the putting green area and the 1st and 10th tees. Di put in some edge boards at the practice net area so that we can finish off mulching that garden next week.
Morning tea of chocolate cake was much appreciated as we had all done some hard yards. Thanks Chef John!. In addition Di Beechey bought in a cake for us as well so we were well rewarded. Thanks Di!
The August winds are always hard to deal with as they are so destructive. We completely lost a tree on the 16th and some very large branches from other trees not to mention all the loose timber & leaves that have scattered everywhere. Let us hope that we do not have any more of that kind of wind before the garden competition inspection next month.
