Golf - Sunday 22nd August 2010

Hellooooo! We are baaaaack! The course had dried out & the run is back ! The scores that have come in the last few days have been outstanding so I expect that we will see a lot of the handicaps start coming back into some sort of realistic state. For example the top scores for both the Men and Women were both 45 points. How long since we have seen that !!!!!
Our playing partners today were Des & Yvonne Wilson & we had a top day on the village green. It was a beautiful balmy spring day until about 4.00 o'clock in the afternoon when some cloud cover arrived and reminded us that is was in fact still winter. Yvonne was our star player scoring 39 points but that was just good enough to win a ball today which dashed my hopes of winning a ball at 34 points.
The golf event of the day was a 2 Ball Team + Single Stableford Mixed Men and Ladies.
We had 84 starters with 4 visitors from Everglades, Terrigal & Tuggerah.
RESULTS:
TEAM RESULTS:
MEN: Ross Drakeford & Bert Jordon - 50 points
MIXED: Kerry Cubis & Norma Cubis - 49 points
WOMEN: Kim Cardiff & Suzanne Waugh - 48 points on a countback
MEN'S SINGLES RESULTS:
WINNER: Kerry Cubis - 45 points
RUNNER UP: Spencer Walklate - 44 points
3RD: Geoff Bridge - 43 points
WOMEN'S SINGLES RESULTS:
WINNER: Sheila Williams - 45 points
RUNNER UP: Lorraine Bignall - 43 points
3RD: Joyce Bosley - 42 points
NEAREST THE PINS:
MEN'S 12TH: Fraser Bates
LADIES 8TH: Doon Jansen
BALLS WENT TO: (This says it all - play to your handicap & you still don't win a ball)
MEN: 38 points (neat)
LADIES: 39 points (neat)
AMCR MEN: 70 (37 points)
AWCR LADIES: 73 (36 points)
HIGHLIGHTS OF THE DAY as reported to me: Doon Jansen scored her 38 points with nice steady play; Robin Incoll had 4 pointers at the 4th and the 13th; Doon & Robin won the Keno ticket from the boys; Joyce Bosley had 4/4 at the 16th and scored 23 points on the back 9; Bert Jordon had three 4 pointers; Christine Drakeford had two 4 pointers; Spencer Walklate had three 4 pointers including a birdie at the 15th (a mythical round I am told); Terry Bowditch had birdies at the 1st and the 15th; Vicki Morris & Gwen White beat the boys for a Keno ticket; Rosalie Dyer had 2/4 at the 8th and 4/4 at the 15th; Kay Frewin scored a nice 38 points after being motivated to win Dick Bosley's $1; Kevin O'Brien scored an EAGLE at the 15th; Lorraine Bignall scored 43 points with 4 pointers at the 1st and the 2nd; Keith Morris scored 38 points; Julie Hazzard could have scored more if she had not been put off by the bird attack on the possum; Kerry Cubis had birdies at the 12th, 13th and the 15th; Col Adams did not have any wipes; Des Wilson had a great shot onto the 7th green (his shot of the day) but he did not have an audience as the girls were not paying attention; Neville Walker had 3/5 at the 15th; Yvonne Wilson had a birdie at the 8th; I did not have any wipes and we easily beat the boys for the Keno ticket.
Other highlights: I have attached a photo of Scott Cubis with his lovely new daughter Sienna Elizabeth. Everyone is doing well. Thanks to Norma Cubis (proud grandmother) for the photo.
My other highlight today was having a gardening session with my 15 month old grandson Joel, teaching him how to use his "Thomas the Tank Engine" gardening tools which I had bought for him at birth. I am not sure if he will make it through to F-Troop standard but he just loved getting "into" all the dirt in the garden. Joel bought me a new rose "Hot Chocolate" for my recent birthday which we will "grow" together.

  1. An excellent commentary on all the highlights, with one more to add; Kevin O'brien, my playing partner for the day landed an impossible eagle from 150m out on the 15th for a well needed 5 pointer!
