We had some nice spring weather for our F-Troop day which was a big help as we had many projects on hand. We had a good number of volunteers including some gardeners which is a big help to me. On hand today we had Geoff Bridge, Duncan Dyer, Peter Martin, Des Wilson, Peter Murphy, Richard Casey, Kerry Cubis, Jan Walker, Georgina Lamb & Di Beechey.
The major project for the day was to start on the paling fence at the 18th tee garden. This task is not as easy as it looks & the F-Troopers have taken great care to get it right. "Do it once and do it well" is our motto. This fence is of a high standard & will withstand the ravages of time & certainly keep all the rabbits out of the garden. A big improvement on our temporary green cloth fence that has been protecting the garden for the last few years. This project should be completed next week (weather permitting) & this whole area has been vastly improved with the addition of the new camellias down "Camellia Way" to the 17th green. Those working on the fence today were Peter Martin, Geoff Bridge, Duncan Dyer & Richard Casey. Good work F-Troopers!
Peter Murphy & Kerry Cubis worked around the course picking up loose timber and accumulated rubbish taking three ute loads to the dumping area. I never cease to be amazed at how much rubbish we pick up off the course every week & my rubbish bins are always full. Thanks Peter & Kerry your help is much appreciated.
Des Wilson spent his time in the Pro Shop supervising progress with the renovations.
The Pro shop renovations are on target with most of the carpentry work completed. Next week the painting will commence & then we will be able to see the finished picture soon thereafter.
Jan Walker did a great job tidying up at the front of the Clubhouse down to the first tee and watering the gardens. Thank you Jan !
Georgina Lamb & Di Beechey put in some hard yards weeding the huge native garden at the 6th, gardens at the back of the 5th, 8th and the 12th green garden. They also raked up in the carpark both back & front & also down the back of the clubhouse. A great job done ! Thanks Di & Georgina !
I was all over the course like a rash doing all sorts of jobs including planting some new succulents at the 5th; raking the 5th tee and the Ladies 3rd tee; chipping around the three Blue Ice Conifers on the 12th; chipping around the 3 limelights at the 7th; chipping around the Daintree Pine and the five Olive Trees at the 15th; raking & tidying up the Ladies Garden at the 13th; re potting two Bird of Paradise plants that are required for the special golf day tomorrow; attended the Narara Valley Nursery with Wendy Stapleton to collect some flowering plants to enhance our first tee for golf tomorrow.
Morning tea was a treat today with some fresh fruit pasties still warm from the oven. Thanks Chef John ! We always enjoy our morning tea break.
It was a busy, busy day for all of us and we did achieve a lot.
My thanks also to our other adopt-a-garden volunteers who have put in some good hours looking after their gardens during the last few weeks. Yvonne Wilson has put in time watering & fertilizing and Mary Bromwich has got all her gardens under control before going on holidays. Thank you Yvonne & Mary.
