Wednesday 23rd June 2010 -Joyce's birthday

Today we had a relaxing day on the ship, some of us doing a lot (deck games, shuffleboard, bingo, coffees, long lunches etc, others just did a little (eat and sleep).
For Joyce's birthday celebration we had booked into the top restaurant on the ship at 8 o'clock. We all attended the "Go Golfing"presentation at 6.15 pm & found out that our golf clubs were going to be driven to Brisbane by hire van & should be waiting for us on our arrival. Sue Hutton was our golf champion at Cairns scoring 35 points & by far our best performer.
The seas started to get rough at this stage & the ship started to get unsteady. We met for dinner at the restaurant and one by one the sea sickness set in. We started with Robin, followed by Ross and Christine, then Peter. Not long after Sue & Bill and Rob & Sheila succumbed leaving just Dick, Joyce, Doug and myself to complete the birthday celebration. The food was beautiful & it was a shame to have it all wasted.
The Captain tried to get out through the Barrier Reef to head for Willis Island but the seas were just too heavy so he has chosen to come back in nearer to shore where it is more sheltered. We will proceed back to Brisbane via a sail through the Whitsunday Islands which should be picturesque. The sun is out & the weather quite warm so outside sports on deck or maybe just a deckchair by the pool may be the appropriate occupation for Thursday.
More to come later.
