Golf - Sunday 6th June 2010

The day started out well with blue sky and sunshine and some nice drying breeze - just what we ordered for today. The course was open but, because it was so wet underfoot, there was a Tee-up ruling throughout the green in an attempt to preserve the condition of the course. The bunkers were still full of water so were ruled as GUR. As a result there was no handicapping today.
Our playing partners were Col & Kay Adams & we had a good day with my team playing very well for me with little support from me. We had some good 3 pointers but our highlight of the day was Kay scoring a lovely 2/4 birdie on the 14th. At that point of the day the storm that had been threatening on the horizon since the 11th hole became a reality & we finished the last 4 holes in the rain which was a bit of a spoiler after such nice sunshine earlier in the day.
The Event of the day was a Single Stableford for Men and Ladies + Medley Team Stableford with 1 score to count.
We had 86 starters with one visitor from Trundle.
RESULTS:
MEDLEY TEAM RESULTS:
WINNERS: Luke McGlynn, Fred McGlynn, Dick Bosley and Joyce Bosley - 56 points on a countback.
MEN'S SINGLES RESULTS:

3RD: Sam Bagala - 40 points
WOMEN'S SINGLES RESULTS:

RUNNER UP: Annette Cross - 39 points
3RD: Kay Adams - 37 points
NEAREST THE PINS:
MEN'S 12TH: To be advised

BALLS WENT TO:
MEN: 37 points neat
LADIES: 35 points neat
NO HANDICAPPING TODAY.
HIGHLIGHTS OF THE DAY as reported to me: Kay Adams had a birdie at the 14th; Graham Singleton had 3/5 on the 9th - almost got an eagle; Peter Laybutt had a birdie on the 10th; Col Matterson had a birdie on the 10th; Helen Stuart had 3/4 at the 12th; Clyde Cruickshanks had three birdies - 1st, 2nd and 10th; Bert Brink had a birdie on the 16th; Ron Puiatti had a birdie on the 18th; Bruce Binns had a birdie on the 10th; Kim Cardiff had four 4 pointers on the 3rd, 6th, 14th and 15th; Suzanne Waugh had a birdie on the 15th; Luke McGlynn had a birdie on the 16th. If I had to say what my highlight was it would have to be the 6th hole where I hit my drive into the water on the right, the next shot after taking a penalty was into the tree to the right where it dropped straight to the ground & I still scored 6/2 on the hole which does say something for the rest of my shots on that hole.
As you are aware the course is very wet underfoot which has not been helped with more rain this afternoon. It has been announced that the following changes to programmed events over the next two days are as follows:
Monday 7th June 2010 (tomorrow) All Pennants matches have been postponed at GOSFORD tomorrow for Grade 3.
Tuesday 8th June 2010 - because of the continuing rain all carts and bikes have been banned on the course- President V Captain Day has been postponed to a future date. For any interested ladies we will have a Single Stableford.
You may notice that our orchids are out in flower for all of us to enjoy at the 14th. Many thanks to Yvonne Wilson who looks after these plants and gives them the TLC that they need. We should get months of lovely flowers from these plants and I hope they get treated with the respect that they deserve. Thanks to Bert & Ronda Jordon who are the original donors of the orchid plants.
