F-Troop - Monday 15th March 2010

F-Troop was missing our senior managers Martin Gallagher, Peter Martin, Duncan Dyer & Garry Trigg today who were absent for various reasons.

We had 10 members on duty and we achieved a huge amount of work tidying up areas that were not on the 'active' part of the golf course as the vets had a big day starting early this morning.

Warren Gray, Geoff Bridge, Des Wilson, Arthur Verlander, Anne Burgess, Judy Hughes, Yvonne Wilson, Jan Walker & Georgina Lamb all worked hard today in their various elected jobs.

Anne & Judy worked in the Bougainvillea garden at the back of the 10th green; Arthur Verlander assisted with rubbish pick up & completed various areas of the gardens & grounds that needed to be treated with round up; Warren, Des & Geoff concentrated on rubbish pick up & helped me to trim back the ferral bougainvillea that was growing out of control on the front street. It took three truck loads to remove all the cuttings. Yvonne worked at the front of the club watering, weeding & trimming where required & later worked out at the 14th garden with Des, Jan Walker tidied up around the putting green and the paths at the front of the club. I was firstly occupied with settling in the two new camellias that were donated to our club and planted on the "Camellia Way" by Martin Gallagher yesterday. While there I trimmed back some of the shrubs and nuisance weeds from the pathway to make that area tidier. Later Georgina & I started on the garden at the 1st tee which has become very overgrown. We filled two garbage tins in a very short amount of time - so we decided to give it a lick and a promise today & give the job no 1 priority for next week when we will have more time & helpers on hand.

We received a donation of two palm trees from Judy & Arthur Verlander which I have potted while waiting for a perfect position to plant them. We also received a donation from Anne Burgess of an axe to add to our collection of work tools. Now that we have a lock up shed we can now keep all of our tools on hand at the club where they are needed. Thanks Judy, Arthur & Anne. All of these donations contribute greatly to our F-Troop efforts.

We have received 5 orders of timber & have already delivered a couple of loads which has given us some cash to proceed with. This weeks purchases included a bag of Dynamic lifter, a 20 kilo bag of Camelia & Azalia food & a bag of cow manure for use in our gardens.

Keep your eye on the "Little Gem" magnolia at the front of the club - it is just about to burst forth with another gorgeous bloom. Have you noticed the burst of purple coming from all the tibbouchina trees & plants around the course. They look magnificent at this time of year.

We have received notice that there is yet another large hole been made in the security fencing along the 2nd fairway - another job for F-Troop next week.
