Golf - Sunday 13th December 2009 Mixed Foursomes Championships

Today was the replay of the Mixed Foursomes Championships previously abandoned due to bad weather - this time held over 18 holes instead of the original 27 holes.
We had lovely sunny weather which was accompanied by a strong breeze at times which kept the temperature to reasonable out on the course.
Our Playing Partners today were Bob Knox & Doon Jansen and Peter & Margaret Davidson . we had a lovely day out on the village green - pity about the golf on some of the holes. We were pleased that we brought Peter & Margaret in to 3rd position in the Div 1 18 hole nett competition as they did have a couple of exceptional holes worthy of recognition and played well overall.

NO HANDICAPPING TODAY
HIGHLIGHTS OF THE DAY as reported to me: Margaret & Peter Davidson - a nice birdie at the 12th; Bob Knox and Doon Jansen had 2 pars in a row on the 8th and the 9th; Jan & Peter Martin had 4/2 on the 12th after Peter put Jan in the left hand bunker and told her to putt the ball out - Jan followed instructions and gave an almighty swing of the putter which shot the ball across the sand at full speed, hit the sharp side of the bunker, jumped the edge and rolled beautifully onto the green - it should be noted that Peter missed his putt leaving it to Jan to finally putt in for a 4 on the hole (thanks Pete!), another highlight was a par on the 14th after Peter put his drive on the green ( Yes! Jan missed her putt); Vicki Morris chipped in for a birdie on the 8th; Anne and Mark Stimpson parred the 8th, 12th and 14th; Keith and Susan Bourne played 18 holes with the Club Captain and were not at any stage disqualified ; Glennis English had a great drive on the 17th- her playing partner Trevor Andrews put her in the trees so Glennis put him in the bunkers (sounds fair to me); Rob and Robin Brann had a birdie on the 8th; Michael and Pauline Norman had a birdie on the 1th; Leonie Casey put her drive on the 3rd 110 metres from the hole (WOW!); Mary Bromwich lost her sand wedge and sent Warren in search of it - only to find it still in her bag; Robin & Doug Incoll had a birdie on the 16th; Steve Craven and Georgina Lamb had a birdie on the 2nd; Graeme Wright had an airswing (not even close) for his chip shot to the 4th, much to his partner's amusement -( Lyn Douglas could hardly contain herself); Duncan Brown sank some magnificent putts; Tania Burt put Spencer Walklate in the water on the 17th which Spencer extracted with great expertise (although just a little messy with mud and water); Arthur Haviland and Helen Stuart both had gobbler chips into the hole - Arthur at the 15th and Helen at the 6th.
It should be noted that DUNCAN BROWN has featured in most of the BIG events held at the club during this year and had played exceptionally well overall. Great year Duncan! CONGRATULATIONS!
