We were restricted with our work today because of the Charity Golf Day with an 8.30 shotgun start. We still managed to get a lot of work done with our depleted numbers of volunteers because a lot of them were giving support to the Charity Golf Day.
We had on deck some very good workers who managed to do a timber and rubbish tidy up at the 7th tee, between the 9th and the 2nd fairways, 13th tee and various other fairways as time allowed us; rough cutting, raking, poisoning weeds around the 3rd tee, watering of gardens at the 5th, 6th, 14th, 15th, 12th,13th & the gardens around the clubhouse, transforming a weedy patch into a creative garden at the 3rd tee.
Those I saw working today were Garry Trigg on the rough cutter, Peter Murphy, Des Wilson, Arthur Verlander, Peter Martin on timber pick up, watering, weed poisoning, chipping out grass, laying out black plastic, carrying & placing of rocks, moving soil into the new garden, Yvonne Wilson planting some replacement oleanders at the 5th, watering the 5th, 14th & 15th gardens, Di Beechey raking & watering the gardens around the clubhouse, weeding at the 6th, 12th & 13th gardens, Doug Incoll brought in a new Stag horn plant donated by Robin Incoll for the new wedding garden, Clyde Cruickshanks cleaning up around the wedding garden.
I have to eat "humble pie" today as I told Peter that we could not possibly prepare the new garden, move all the pile of rocks and soil today with our depleted work crew.
Full credit to our F-Troopers Arthur Verlander, Peter Martin, Des Wilson and Peter Murphy who made it happen. They did a superb job and the garden is just about ready for me to treat the soil and set in the succulent plants. We only have a little bit more soil to put in & it will be ready for the next step. Well done F-Troopers & I take back what I said about you not being able to do the job.
We have been able to find some good connection points to water some of our gardens that were previously unable to water. This will be very useful when the very hot weather starts so we can at least keep most plants alive. I was able to water the garden at the 12th & the 13th with a hose for the first time since the gardens were put in. I was also able to give the native garden at the back of the 5th green and the 6th tee a good water after planting the new natives last week.
The plants are looking well settled so we should have a good show of colour next year.
I have received news that our gardens are to be inspected this coming Thursday for the Gosford City Council Garden competition where I have entered the whole of the course gardens in the "More than 1000 metres commercial garden", and have also entered our "special" gardens such as the Wedding garden, the Ladies garden, The BBQ garden, The Bush Toilet garden in the "Best Theme" commercial gardens under 1000 metres, The garden at the 18th has been entered into the "Best Eco" commercial garden. I will keep you posted if we get any positive results.
