F-Troop - Monday 4th May 2009

F-Troop this week was an amazingly busy day with much achieved. We had 10 volunteers which made light work of removing the tree branches that were endangering the new garden area.
On "tree"duty we had Chief Officer Duncan Dyer and his trusty offsider Ron Dekker with the chain saws. The support crew was made up of Clyde Cruickshanks, Des Wilson, Peter Martin & Warren Gray with Geoff Bridge on the tractor removing the timber. Arthur Verlander did a good shift on the rough cutter. Yvonne and Des Wilson planted out some new ground covers to complete the new magnolia garden. Clyde arranged for delivery of the concrete ready for next weeks setting of the rocks into the new garden.
During the day we planted out some "Bird of Paradise"along the fenceline for privacy from the road. We also collected some beautiful agave plants from Rosalie & Duncan Dyer's place and placed them in the new feature garden. Many thanks to Duncan & Rosalie for their generous donation of Agave plants. They will look sensational when all the garden is completed.
As the branches came down over the top of the work we had already completed I could not watch so I weeded the putting green garden so I did not have to witness any destruction.
All due credit to the Troopers as they removed large branches & removed the debris with great skill.

Warren, Des & Peter also relaid the excess turf from the second from where we made way for the new avenue of Tibouchina Trees. They placed the turf at the 12th where it was badly needed.
The whole area looks much better and allows more sunshine onto the new garden beds.
Well done F-Troopers! Next week hopefully we will get all the rocks set in place & the Agave garden completed.
