It has been a couple of weeks since we have been able to get out on the course. Luckily today we had 12 volunteers which was very helpful with our projects.

On hand we had Trevor Harrison, Duncan Dyer, Kevin O’Brien, Sam Knox, Rob Benson, Les Wielinga, Don Nicholls, Peter Martin, John Hollebon, Nigel Asken, Di Beechey and Jan Martin.

Projects worked on were Rubbish and loose timber pick up around the course, tree maintenance, hedge maintenance, firewood deliveries, removal of weed from the dams, removal of weeds and tidy up of gardens around the course cleaning of the bush toilets.

We welcomed Trevor Harrison back to the fold after his sick leave absence. Morning Tea was appreciated after a hard morning’s work.

Golf - Wednesday 24th March 2021

We had blue skies, sunshine and a good breeze which will go a long way to dry out the course.

There was no golf today as the course is still unplayable - especially the 11th fairway where it is low.

Hopefully we will get another nice day tomorrow and the course will drain well.

The course will be OPEN TOMORROW for Medley and Ladies Competition mixed with social play.

NO CARTS ALLOWED.

Golf - Tuesday 23rd March 2021

The course was closed due to the wet condition of the course.

The weather forecast has improved and the next couple of days should produce some sunshine.

The course does drain very quickly however daily assessments will be made.

If you are keen to get back out there then you should check with the Pro Shop as to the ground conditions of the day. No doubt there will be water in low lying places and damage from heavy rain on the paths and bunkers and restrictions on the use of motorised carts.

I understand that we have received over 500mls of rain. The course will be closed Wednesday 24th March 2021. A further assessment will be made for Thursday golf.

Golf - Monday 22nd March 2021 - endless rain

There was no chance of golf on the course today and if the rain continues as it is forecast it could be days before the course has a chance to drain properly.

I understand that golf tomorrow is highly unlikely and the scheduled Ladies Competition will be postponed until to 20th April 2021.

There was no F-Troop in action today due to constant rain.

Nelson Bay Tourist’s Report 2021

The Nelson Bay Tour this year was cut short by torrential rain, but not before the intrepid golfers had tackled the Muree and Horizon courses.

At Muree under laden skies, Michael “ The Doc” Crookes was victorious with a magnificent 34 point.

At Horizons Bluey Thompson posted a superb 38 to take the overall lead in the competition.

On Wednesday, the non-comp day for the John Bullivant Trophy a group of 11 travelled to Hawks Nest. Brad “250”Page the best in the group.

Thursday saw the heavens open and play was abandoned, Horizons was flooded and the prospects for Pacific Dunes did not look great. The decision was made to cancel the rest of the tour and declare “Bluey” the winner of the trophy.

This year there were no reports of incidents, accidents, or other mishaps.

My thanks to Paul Scholberg for this report.

Endless rain here today so there was no golf for anyone including our Nelson Bay Tourists who have also been washed out.

My thanks to Graeme Wright for the above photo of “The Last Supper” at Nelson Bay and Paul Scholberg for the scenic shot of beautiful Nelson Bay in the wet.

The girls supported the day well with most turning out in the Orange and Green of St Patrick’s Day - see the separate posting of golfers on the course to appreciate the effort the girls made to add spirit to the day.

Given the previous two years were a disaster with heavy rain and Covid restrictions so it was great that the day could go ahead and carts were allowed on the course.

Congratulations to the Ladies Committee for a great effort to put the day together.
