Above is the clubhouse trading hours over the holidays.

F-Troop - Monday 19th December 2016

F-Troop Morning Tea- Steve Hogg, Geoff Bridge, Di Beechey, John Hollebon, Nigel Asken, Kevin O'Brien, Peter Martin, Garry Trigg, Don Nicholls, Jan Martin, Terry Coyle, Duncan Dyer, Trevor Harrison (Rob Benson)

trimming the lavender garden at the 16th.

Lavender garden at the 16th looking better for a trim.

This was our last F-Troop day for 2016 and having fourteen volunteers was a bonus as there was a heap of rubbish pick up to be done after the last week of windy weather.

On hand were Trevor Harrison, Duncan Dyer, Kevin O'Brien, Geoff Bridge, Don Nicholls, Terry Coyle, Steve Higg, Garry Trigg, John Hollebon, Peter Martin, Nigel Asken, Rob Benson, Di Beechey and Jan Martin.

Our projects worked on today were rubbish and loose timber pick up around the course, the BBQ area and around the clubhouse, tree maintenance, hedge trimming, lavender gardens trimmed, weed removal from the 3rd dam, clean up of the 1st and 10th tee gardens, cleaning the bush toilets and the green space gardens, tidy up 6th tranquility garden and watering the pots, plumbing repairs.

We lost count of the number of loads of rubbish taken to the dump as the course was littered with loose timber and leaves. We needed every one of our volunteers today to cope with the volume of projects.

Morning tea was appreciated by all after a hard mornings work. Thank you Barto!

YES! WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE!

The showers very kindly held off so that we could enjoy our Sunday on the Village Green which was much greener thanks to the recent rain.  Our playing partners today were Mark Stimpson and Alice Diamond and they were great company. Our golf was a little lacking in highlights - no birdies or 4 pointers but we did throw in the odd 3 pointers and the boys beat the girls for the keno ticket by one measly hole.

The Golf Event of the day was a Medley Team Stableford for Men and Ladies 1 x 2 x 3 + Single Stableford for Men and Ladies.

We had 67 starters with 2 visitors from Shelly Beach and Bondi.

HIGHLIGHTS OF THE DAY as reported to me: I forgot my notebook today and was slack in collecting highlights however I do know that last weeks star Vicki Foster scored a lovely 39 points after wiping the 18th (careless Vicki); Wally Robertson is also running hot with some big scores coming in recently; there were some good scores coming in today as you can see by the ball competition. I only had one wipe and finished with the same ball I started with with my main highlight being good company.

I wish everyone a very HAPPY CHRISTMAS and best wishes for 2017 including GOOD GOLFING πŸ˜ƒ

Saying farewell to Santa

What a huge night we had at Gosford Golf Club for the Children's Party and Club Raffles.

With some 60 odd children having a ball the Sunset Room really rocked. The children enjoyed face painting, balloons, dancing and music and a complimentary dinner as well as seeing Santa Claus that was a big hit.  A special mention to Keen Creations who worked hard all night with the Face Painting and especially the creative balloons that were pretty special and popular with the children. Santa was a big hit giving out presents to each of the children.

This was the biggest and best Children's Party we have had since I have been involved with the club and special mention must be made to Bron Carroll for all her hard work putting it together and to John Wright for his last minute fill in as Santa Claus.

The raffles were very popular with some very lucky people getting Christmas Hams and pork as well as the usual selection of meats.

The Badge Draw was not won - so why not come along again next Friday Night - it could be your lucky night. There will also be the end of the month $50 draw from the barrel.

Golf - Friday 16th December 2016

We have had two full days of nice slow rain which has been excellent for the course and gardens.

Unfortunately it has not been excellent for playing golf and once again the daily competition game was cancelled.  There have been a few die hards playing social golf who obviously do not worry about a few drops of rain.

We are looking forward to the weekend when hopefully we will all be back on on the course with gusto!

Don't forget the big night at the golf club tonight - ham and pork are included in the raffle prizes and the children will be having some fun at the Children's Christmas party. Not to mention the big members draw which would make a nice Christmas present and remember you have to be at the club at the time of the draw to be the winnerπŸ˜ƒπŸ‘

Golf - Thursday 15th December 2016

The course is soaking up this nice slow rain - just what the doctor ordered after those two blistering hot windy days. The gardens will be happy too!

Sadly for the girls the golf competition set down for today was cancelled so it was social play only.

I did notice some social players out on the course during the day obviously ignoring the wet conditions.

1 from 2. Better start than last year, losing their first six!

Nice bit of bowling by the Gosford Golf Club Ladies member. She wants to get a few games of golf over the break, although it is also a busy time for the Big Bash.

Change in Ladies Patron 2017

Our wonderful Patron, Bere Hanley, after 18 years in this position has chosen to step down, it is also unlikely she will be playing golf next year. Bere's grace and warmth underlie the solid contribution she has made to the Club through the decades as player, committee member, Tai Kwon Do instructor, and, of course, in her final position. We will all miss her ready smile, beautiful swing, speedy play (take heed!) and good company very much.

The incoming Patron, June Bowen, has been a stalwart member of the Club for 47 years and her generosity and support for the  Ladies’ activities is well known, she has served the Lady Members well in many capacities. We wish her luck in her new position and consider she too will continue the line of outstanding women who have been Patrons of the Lady Members of Gosford Golf Club.

Beaulah Cant is also retiring from golf and together with Bere they were great club supporters over the years and were formidable competitive golfers who kept us on our toes playing very speedy and consistent golf right up to the present day. We wish them well in their retirement and they will be sadly missed.

We all aspire to be able to play golf well into our eighties just like these lovely ladies.

More Christmas spirit shining through
Robin Incoll, Doug Incoll, Dick Bosley and Joyce Bosley
supporting the Christmas Theme.

I must confess I forgot this year that traditionally in past years members would make an effort to wear attire with a Christmas theme.  I have in past years supported this tradition but this year the thought did not occur to me.  I will try next year to remind everyone that this is one of our special days leading up to Christmas and is generally the last day that we get together before the silly season really sets in and we are distracted with other things.

Our playing partners today were Kevin O'Brien and Lorraine Bignall and we had an enjoyable day on the village (not so) green. The course had plenty of run and there were some good scores happening. Our best highlight was Kevin's shot to the 8th green where we thought he was very close to a hole-in-one - a nice birdie all the same.

The Golf Event of the day was a Team Stableford 1 x 2 x 3 + Men and Ladies Singles (Must have 2 men and 2 ladies in each team)

We had 96 starters with 1 visitor.

HIGHLIGHTS OF THE DAY as reported to me: I did not collect highlights today as we were late finishers however I do know that Vicki Foster scored 26 points on the back nine including a 4 pointer on the 10th followed by a series of 3 pointers finally finishing with a nice 44 points, Helen Smith loved the run on the course that helped her to score her 43 points; Kevin O'Brien had a great birdie on the 8th; Lorraine Bignall played the 16th beautifully narrowly missing a birdie; Peter Martin made some good recovery shots and putted well for his 40 points; my highlight was not wiping a hole and finishing with the same ball I started with.
