Unfortunately there was no golf competition today as we have had rain for the majority of the day and quite heavy at times which was enough to put off most of the players who would have been contemplating a game today.
We have had something like 46 mms so far which the gardens would have appreciated especially those that have just been fertilized in the last week.
The forecast for the next couple of days is for further rain but much less than today & then seemingly back to showers so let us hope that this rain band gets a move on so we can get back on the course. The fairways have been draining well and quickly so a small amount of further rain will will not have too much effect on the playing quality of the course.

Golf - Tuesday 30th November 2010 - Closing Day
It was difficult to show off our Christmas Spirit while golfing in the rain but we did have a good splash of red and green out on the course when the rain jackets came off.
We had 88 starters which was great for a wet day and most people did make an effort to dress in Christmas mode which was good to see and at least it did not rain on us all day - just some of the day.
It was our Ladies Tuesday Closing Day and we have been rained on every year for the last three years. It is pleasing to see our lady Members supporting these days and entering into the spirit of the event regardless of the weather. My playing partners today were Lorraine Bignall, Yvonne Wilson & Shirley Daly, thankfully I played with some good golfers who kept up the scores while I kept the card. It was hard work out there but still some of the players came in with great scores.
The Event of the Day was a Team Stableford 1 x 2 x 3 and we had 88 starters in a 8.00am shotgun start.
RESULTS:
TEAM WINNERS: Helen Broadbent, Carmen Fitzgerald, Rae Brown & Pauline Norman - 89 points on a countback

F-Troop Monday 29th November 2010
For a day that started out to be a wet one, it cleared very quickly. We were lucky to have 14 F-Troopers who braved the weather & managed to achieve a lot of tasks.
Today I saw Duncan Dyer, Geoff Bridge, Fred Middleton, Warren Gray, Garry Trigg, Des Wilson, Sam Knox, George Foster, Richard Casey, Yvonne Wilson, Di Beechey, Georgina Lamb & Jan Walker.
Jan, Georgina, Yvonne & Di worked around the front of the clubhouse, cleaning the walkway & furniture, front gardens, wedding garden, front carpark & all points nearby.
George did a long shift on the roughcutter.
Warren & Garry did pick up of loose timber & rubbish around the course.
Duncan, Geoff, Des & Fred were on the "Tree Gang" duties and worked their way through the fairways.
Richard did a great job hedging at the 2nd, 7th, 12th & the gardens at the front street in addition to helping Di with the Bamboo structure in the BBQ area.
Sam Knox worked all morning on wood splitting for our firewood sales.
I worked on the Ladies Garden at the 13th planting out more Gazanias, fertilizing & weeding. After morning tea Georgina helped me to finish off the weeding and trimming at the 13th, check the olive trees & daintree pine at the 15th & marking out the new garden area on the 15th to 16th pathway.
It was a big day and we all really appreciated a delicious morning tea with fresh fruit pastries still warm from the oven. Thanks Chef John !
YES! WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE!
Golf - Sunday 28th November 2010 - Results of the 58th Nagger's Cup
We had one of our most popular days today being the 58th Annual Nagger's Cup and it was well supported by our Members. The weather held fine for most of the day with just the lightest of showers towards the last few holes. The course was in great condition the the greens were a putter's delight. I did not play today because my nagger was away but I did get a lot of happy reports from the couples with most marriages still intact at the end of the day. A lot of players stayed for dinner & the presentation and enjoyed the light dance music at the end of the evening.
I was happy to be able to plant out our replacement white iceberg rose this afternoon at the putting green which was donated to us by Sue Hutton. The whole area there is now complete & is flowering beautifully. I often think back to three years ago when that area was not much better than a dust bowl with nothing at all in the wedding garden area except for a weedy paddock to practice chip in. A big THANK YOU to Sue Hutton for providing us with a high quality rose that hopefully will live through to maturity & give us a lot of viewing pleasure in years to come. I always get a warm fuzzy feeling when generous donations like this come in from Members & it certainly makes all the effort of putting gardens together worthwhile.
The Event of the day was an American Foursomes - Mixed and was our 58TH NAGGER"S CUP which makes it a very special event. The trophies today were donated by the Pro Shop.
The day was well supported with 134 Members participating.

Peter & Margaret Davidson chipped in on the 5th for a birdie & also had a birdie at the 10th ;
John & Julie Hazard had a birdie on the 8th after a lovely drive to the green by Julie; Doug & Robin Incoll had a birdie on the 5th and were still happy friends at the end of the match; Michael & Pauline Norman had a birdie on the 16th; Christine & Ron Dekker sank some great long putts; Ron & Di Beechey parred the first two holes; Leanne Binns had the most elegant of air swings displaying an expert swing unfortunately not connecting with the ball; Lauren Matterson & Mark Buckey had a great hole on the 16th with some good shots from both of them; Warren Flanigan & Debbie Grinham had their best game together with Warren winning the Eagles Nest at the 12th at 51 cms, they also birdied the 8th and the 17th;
Arthur Verlander hit an accidently great shot to the right of the 17th that carried over the pond, rebounded from two separate trees and landed in front of the green; Jan & Neville Walker had pars on the 8th and the 9th narrowly missing a birdie on the 9th; on the 12th hole a crow took one of the golf balls; Peter Laybutt hit his ball at the 18th into a palm tree and Sandy had to elect to take a penalty shot for an unplayable ball ( photo attached of the palm tree & ball position).
My thanks to Rae Brown for the photo taken on her mobile phone of Peter Laybutt's ball in the palm tree. These action photos are always good to get as they show the true grit we golfers have to show to cope with the end results of what should have been a great shot.
In all, it was a great day enjoyed by all the Members.

Paula Drew showed me some photos from her garden today & I could not help putting this photo on the blog to show you Paula's beautiful anthurium which astounded me. Golf - Thursday 25th November 2010
It was a beautiful hot day with clear blue skies - just right for golf I would think & the scores today say that as well. I did not see much blue sky as I was Christmas shopping in Sydney & made my annual treck to see the Queen Victoria Building Christmas Tree. I was not disappointed. The tree was beautifully decorated with thousands of swarovski crystals and 60,000 lights. This year the base of the tree was totally covered with crystals as you can see in the attached photos. The new Westfield Shopping Centre is in action and can be accessed from Myer's Store via the overhead bridge that has now been restored. The shopping Centre leads into David Jones and all that action took me most of the day. I would not have got my feet wet if it had been raining. If you have not already done so be sure to make an effort to pay a visit to the QVB especially if you have grandchildren old enough to appreciate the magnitude of the 24 metre high tree which is once again spectacular.

What really did make my day today was a donation from Sue Hutton who has offered to buy us a new standard white iceberg rose for the putting green to replace the one that was destroyed by vandals last week. THANKS SUE! As you are all aware we rely heavily on donations for our gardens & we very much appreciate the support we get from our Members.
